Predator is a 1987 American science fiction action film directed by John McTiernan and written by brothers Jim and John Thomas. It is the first installment in the Predator franchise. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of an elite paramilitary rescue team on a mission to save hostages in guerrilla-held territory in a Central American rainforest, who encounter the deadly Predator (Kevin Peter Hall), a technologically advanced alien who stalks and hunts them down.
Predator was written in 1984 under the working title of Hunter. Filming ran from March to June 1986 with creature effects devised by Stan Winston; the budget was around $15 million. 20th Century Fox released the film on June 12, 1987, in the United States, where it grossed $98.3 million. Initial reviews were mixed, but the film has since been reappraised as a classic of the action genre.
The success of Predator spawned a media franchise of films, novels, comic books, video games, and toys. It spawned three direct sequels: Predator 2 (1990), Predators (2010) and The Predator (2018), and an upcoming installment in preproduction. A crossover with the Alien franchise produced the Alien vs. Predator films, which include Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007).

What i would really love to see is an actual predator movie about the predator them selfs. From being born, growing up, their training, their first hunt, then their ultimate hunt where their told to leave and not come back until they defeat said target. The hunt that makes them fully blooded. All others hunts before now were just practiced for the final showdown. I want to watch the predator becoming the ultimate bad ass we all know they are. It's time we see their side of the story. Humans need not apply for this movie.

I've actually been curious about this myself. All the predators seem to be fearless. Would there be any that would prefer to stay home and say be something less violent? It would be an interesting story. Like when they're growing up and they're going through all of their training, do they form little cliques where some are actually like bullies to ones that are not quite as adept at fighting?

Yeah... that alone did it for me, I did not like that one a bit. It was just nonsense girl power fantasy. And the big ol' bear was no match for the Predator. And then the Predator was not really a real threat to the superpower little girly weighing a 1/10 comparing to the Predator. It would have been more plausible if they did put the girl in a superhero outfit. I really don't understand why most of the critics felt that this was a good movie. I think it was trash, even the action scenes were so cheap I could not believe it.

It's like you didn't even watch the movie. She was still training herself in fighting the bear, and when it came to fighting the Predator, she had time to prepare traps, and became more skilled in fighting over the course of the movie.

A cool predator movie idea would be predators hunting other planets fierce creatures and winning, I’m a huge fan of the franchise and want to see something different

@@user-dq9pq8uv4e This would be a very good idea and I'd love to see it too... but it would have to be handled carefully because for the longest time we have had no idea what they say to each other, which has been part of the mystery... outside of that last one (Not Prey) we've never seen straight up Predator communication...and having a story solely about them could be done like Predators where it was more like nonverbal gestures and clicks, we just have no idea what their saying

Predators was an awesome movie. How can they say it was disappointing? Adrian Brody killed it. Seriously, this is awesome movie.
Because a lot of it feels like a remake of the original Predator and they try to make it seem like they're on this "alien world", but feels like they filmed in Robert Rodriguez's backyard. It also felt like the humans could kill the Predators too easily here.
It's not terrible and certainly better than the terrible fourth movie, but after 20 years since Predator 2, I expected more.
Because it's 2024 and the ''fans"' complain about everything and anything . It doesn't matter if it's music, movies or video games. Go on any video and you will see the ''fans"' mad about something .

All the movies, including the original one , say that the Predators have been visiting for hundreds, if not thousands of years. This idea could explain the end of Predator 2. I theorize that there will be more than one Predator in this sequel, & some kind of truce is reached.

Th major problem with the Predator franchise is the fact the Predator always dies at the end. An alien species that revolved their whole culture around being the ultimate hunter and every one of them that has come to earth gets killed? I mean the franchise has been it's own spoiler.
I can agree their entire civilization hunts everything nasty in the universe and one of their coming of age trials is to take out a xynomoroh but a bunch of folks with Paleolithic weapons and couldn't beat the US Army to keep their homes are gonna kill predators and in mass.
Absolutely correct, Predators are a species whose whole existence revolves around the hunting of other species. & yet they get killed off every single time & by less experienced beings in every movie... If the Predator franchise wants to grow & become a smash hit franchise for the die hard fans & even the ordinary movie watchers, then all they have to do is make the Predator/s do what we all know what they should be doing, "KICKING ARSE" morning, noon & night... After the first movie came out some writers of the novels started writing it that humans were starting to be considered top prey. With a reputation for being weak animals, but highly cunning and wiley. And dangerous to hunt in some cases because of that.
Humans are fodder unless they have protagonist protection. They're only top prey if they have a storyline

Their story did not finish there in first movie, but the rest where told in a comic book form...
For the Yautja it's only about the hunt, no revenge. That would be dishonorable.
Hollywood is showing some cases where Yaut'ja honor isn't being followed. I'm really seriously not too happy about that.

Interesting trivia about that, which ended up totally reshaping the franchise, as a whole.
The original monster suit. It was ridiculous. Arnie (I can't spell his last name) took _one look_ at it, and said *Absolutely NOT* . Even refused to do the movie, if they used the original suit.
So they had to go back, and spend several months in redesign. So we actually OWE him one, since they then came up with iconic design that we now have today.
Original Predator is by far the best one.
It took Dutch and his whole team to kill the Predator with the cost of 6 lives. In Prey some skinny girl kills the Predator. Make it make sense.

Modern weaponry doesn't make them better warriors. The Native American's were more attuned to it's presence before Dutch and his team and arguably more cautious. Arnie himself used old school Rambo type methods to defeat the Predator. And the protagonist female or not, was fricken' awesome!
Her brother explained to her how to kill it. And she figured how the head set worked and used it against him. It not seeing her as a treat like the rabbit was part of the Predator’s downfall. People act like Arnold killed the Predator with brute strength.
His whole team did nothing.They all died. Dutch had to set up multiple traps to defeat the Predator after acquiring intel on it. Even he couldn't, man handle it. She did the same thing, knowing she couldn't stand toe to toe with it. Everything she did was foreshadowed based on her experience. As a huge fan of both Alien and Predator and AVP their have been a ton of female protagonist in the comics/games and movies. It's not like she's boxing the Predator like Alice vs. Nemesis in the RE movies, lol.
I am guessing that it will have a female protagonist that appears invincible and can't possibly be defeated. If this is the case it won't sell well considering all the Disney flops that have the same premise..
The only thing I disliked about prey was the way it projected this modern take on the "value of a women and her role" and applied it to that time period, if she was an aspiring huntress why wouldn't the tribe just acknowledge this and respect it instead all the hunters except her brother heckle her at almost every opportunity instead of actually asking themselves ya she does raise a good point here wtf skins a snake? wtf is red lighting? she was smart and observant they didn't appreciate that in a time when danger was all around them? Also she's the only one with a very well trained dog, sign of a great hunter! I understand they wanted to showcase her growth and ability to shake that crap off and excel as a huntress it was just a nasty distraction to the great setting they had created, this film just didn't need that if they empowered her as a tribe instead of hackling her wouldn't that have been a better message hell WOULDNT it have just been COOLER all around? hopefully this changes in prey 2 even with my critique I still think it was a GOOD movie which I will prolly watch again!

There was a lot of crap being released when the first two Predators came out too. Take off the rose-tinted glasses.
And yet it took four days before you came along an pointed it out, although you can't have been more than an infant when the first were released.

The only problem with Predators wanting to get payback is that they've never done that before. Not in the movies and, to my knowledge, not in the comics.
There's only one rule I've seen them follow in the comics, they don't leave the bodies of their fallen behind... that honestly could be the story line of the next movie

There was an instance of it, in one of the novels that I read. Aliens Versus Predator, Hunter's Planet. By David Bishoff.
I do not remember the names, it was something I read over 20 years ago. 😕
But there was one. He was short for a yaut'ja, and was picked on by the other preds, because of his stature. Short Tusk, I think the main char called him. Or something like that.
Anyway, the main char was human female, and was outshowing him in the training, and on hunts. So to get rid of her, during a Queen Hunt, he released the queen inside the holding area, thinking the queen would get rid of her.
The other preds didn't appreciate that at all, btw. Ended up dropping him off alone and unarmed on an Alien infested planet 😁
In the post credits there is a hint on what’ll happen next.
There are paintings depicting the event of the movie as credits roll but at the very end; well… bad times await. 😅

Bring in Greyback. The Greyback/Adolini storyline involving the flintlock could be adjusted to include Naru in his place. With Greyback somehow helping Naru as he did Adolini, it would secure his appearance centuries later in Predator 2. Since we all know the only way around human protagonist plot protection is to help them
Add a twist where Nuru dies but Greyback survives, for something truly unique to the franchise

Amber Midthunder is one hell of a good actress, she rates up there with Summer Glau when it comes to movements onscreen. Both would be #1 choices to make another remake of Tomb Raider, Batgirl or Cat Woman. I love watching a great kick-ass movie with a athletic girl in the lead role, it's like watching Spiderman jump from building to building all while fighting some bad guy. Native American's should be proud to have her in the spotlight.
If they were to start incorporating stuff like time travel into the Predator canon, I quit. Done. At that point Hollywood can officially bite my ass.

I really think the predator protected Naddr from the bear. The Yaujita have a major code of honor. And it’s followed without question. I think he saved her from the bear. One of the best Predator movies to date!!

OMG I saw "PREY" that was such an awesome movie and hearing that they want to make a sequel is awesome. love seeing the warrior girl take on the beast, so happy she will be returning to the "PREY II" can hardly wait to see my hero again but this time on the big screen
The narrator said there were Easter eggs in the review. I didn't see any Easter eggs or Easter bunnies for that matter. Why would there be Easter eggs in a Predator movie?
The continuity is what made Prey. It was slow, but so wasn't the first Predator. Nothing dragged. It may be interesting for "Dutch" to appear. Maybe as a relative of Big Beard - nasty French hunter. Looking for Big Beards loot. I pray it will be even more horrifying than the first Prey - maybe NOT with the Disney code . . . the Kaching, is a VERY LOUD incentive. A better than decent story is part of the thrill in these kinds of movies, DOES ANYONE LISTEN???👍👍

I want to see a surviving Yautja for once. Maybe recurring character in the next sequels. In the comics there are a lot of notable Yautja that appeared in multiple issues.

I thought the first Alien vs. Predator was pretty good. Personally, I prefer that "Prey" was released on streaming services as opposed to a theatrical release. I hope they do the same thing with this installment. Going to theaters has become a real pain in the neck. What with all its reserve seating and bloated, overpriced costs. Haven't been to a theater since before Covid because they cost us too much. I don't see how they can still stay in business with the prices they charge.

She could become captured and brought to the predator planet. For study. Then sent back, as a guide, experiencing time dilation due to light speed travel or hibernation. One idea.
Predators would not want revenge. And Predator that died in the hunt would have died by own fault in their warrior hunter society. More likely remembered with scorn and shame as not "making the grade".
Arnold could be frontiersman of German/Austrian origin. Or Dutch which might make more historical sense. Which could be an Easter egg referring to his Predator character named "Dutch".

At first I taught it was awsome and then she karate kid 3 the raiders and the cherry 🍒 on top was when she killed the Predator with his own Alien tech which she figured out in less than a minute.

The narrative in Redemption begins with Commander Shepard mysteriously disappearing in the Terminus Systems, out of contact with the SSV Normandy and its crew. What dumbfounds me about the recent Predator movies is of all the great stories from the comics they could build on. Which I was excited for Prey 1, thinking it was going to be about the human woman the yautja adopted and she turned out to be an absolute badass. With a kitana I believe. But no, just a nothing movie.

Now here’s the thing about this movie duo! 1st is why does an American Indian woman have the name of a character from the movie Avitar and 2nd why also did the story writer not have the creativity enough to simply leave this Native American Indian woman pull her blow string back the way actual Comanche Indians did instead of how again the characters did in the movie Avitar did?! Common movie writers be somewhat historically correct when writing how the movie characters would have actually done simple things such as pulling their bow strings back for their shots!

I hope this doesn't turn into an endless sequence of predators getting killed by inferior humans throughout different eras of our history. That would be idiotic. I loved Predator and Prey, both are equally awesome but Prey seemed a bit too much an hommage to the original. I'd love to see a change. Let the predator win this time! Tell the story of a human being that fought for us as a species but turned out... human. And dead. Give the Predator some plausability back!
