- This is a Hype Vs Reality review for n the Chris Reeve Knives large Inkosi, with micarta inlays. This is a comprehensive review with specs and size comparisons, and there is also footage of me using the knife. I did say these were available at Rive’s edge Cutlery, but they are actually out of them at the moment of this release, but alchemy depending on when you’re watching this.

Just got my first chris reeves yesterday: a large plain Inkosi.
It makes all my benchmades, spydercos, cold steel etc from the past 20 years a collective JOKE.
Being a machinist for a living, I can really appreciate the world class machining that goes into this knife.
Awesome! Congrats!
I agree man! Once I handled a Crk, every other knife became sub par, at least when it comes to build quality.
As a machinist, you will have an even deeper appreciation. I was not a machinist, but I worked closely with machinist in what I did as a carpenter, and always wanted to delve deeper into machining. I will one day
Very nice complement.
@@dr.stevenpennym.d.3241 so, it has been 11 months.
Since buying the inkosi, I've bought: crk umnumzaan, Hinderer xm-18, olamic rainmaker, shirogorov quantum and just yesterday I got a Koenig Arius in the mail
I must say many of those are better than the Inkosi to me. I rarely carry it anymore
My best knife is easily the shirogorov quantum. Koenig is an easy second
Id say xm-18 wins 3rd, and umnumzaan wins 4th
Inkosi and rainmaker tied for 5th
This koenig arius though is amazing! What a great knife for the price
@@fritz9830 sounds like your pocket book is in pain.
I have the 21 and umnumzaan and keep looking at the inkosi 🙄 tanto inlay...idk why
@@Thetinebroken oh man, don't you know it. Like I said, I'm a machinist so I'm not rich lol.
In the past year I've spent about 4 grand on new knives, and have sold nothing
Quantum helped satisfy me from july - February because its so dang good.
I just got the arius a couple weeks ago and I'm in danger of falling back into a severe buying cycle. Tax returns on the way.
Been thinking of getting a Shiro F95/f3, or a Grimsmo
Great review Kenny! It's definitely my favorite as well! It's pretty much perfection for a folding knife.
Tom Hosang Outdoors Thanks a lot Tom:) yeah, I agreed, perfection...
Thank you Kenny! I pulled the trigger on my first Chris Reeve Inkosi drop point blade with Natural Micarta Inlays this week! It’s coming Friday, I can’t wait to get it in hand!
Btw, I do have two Sebenza 31’s , so I can appreciate the company already.
This review is sooo spot on!
I have quite a few nice knives. But this one is definitely my favorite. 👍🏻
When I got my Inkosi a few years ago, first thing I did was strip it down and inspect every inch of it.
Like microscopic inspection. And I couldn't find a single flaw any where on it.
Just PERFECT 😍 but I still plan on getting the Insingo version to add to the collection.
Thanks buddy:) Yeah, this is definitely one of the best pieces I own, but I can say that about all of my CRK’s. They just make a stellar knife👌
Haha that's hilarious the picture of you on the knife. That's awesome brother.
nate k lol thanks man:) I love it, and it will stay in the collection forever;)
A big plus on river's edge cutlery. Great knife store and their prices are fair .
Great review thanks for all the great information well done buddy
Great review on this one, I think I’m going to take the plunge. Just got the Socom Elite (manual) 2 weeks ago, wow, it’s an awesome knife too but this looks next level. Now the choice for me will be micarta or plain. Hmmmmm
Terrific looking knife! Congrats on the deal with River's Edge and congrats on blowing through the 1K mark!!!
BigRedEDC thanks so much, buddy! It’s a great knife, have handled one yet?
No sir I have not! I facilitated someone getting a Sabenza 21, his grail knife, for Chirstmas last year but never had my hands on a CRK!
BigRedEDC Yeah, that’s right! Well, we might have to remedy that brother😉
@@inthepocket7405 That would be very cool brother!
Wow really amazing design looking knife!!! ^w^
Your right on every point! Great knife, clip is great and they did the cutout correctly so it doesnt catch your Levi's.
Timothy Becker thanks bud:) yeah, there’s really no reason to not love this knife... simply amazing.
Congrats on the discount partnership. Thats awsome
Neeves Knives Thanks so much guys:)
Really nice looking blade man!...still have yet to get my hands on one.
Damen0530 thanks Damen! Yeah, you definitely do... they are on another level.
Cutting that cardboard over your bare feet! Holy sh*t! Nice review overall!
Nice video, ordered one, coming today!
Rad! I don’t think you will be disappointed. This was my first CRK, and now I have 4 haha stoked for you man!
I am really happy with it! My last folder?..... 😅
I was blown away when I got my large 21. Then I was obsessed with the tanto and bought a large inkosi tanto but was let down because the tanto grind makes it feel so heavy and not as balanced. I still love that knife it’s my tank. I’d like a small CRK now.
Cark Nelson interesting... I had my eye on those tanto’s, the 21 that is, and you know I’m not a tanto guy, but you might have changed my tune a bit. I’m going to get a 21 eventually, or I might check out the 31.
Need this knife for sure. Had the older version of the Umnumzan and loved it.
My favourites are this, I guess, Microtech Socom Elite, Spyderco Military, Strider SMG and Extrema Ratio Resolza L.✌
That’s a sweet list, and I’m with you... except I’ve never handled the last one. I’m really digging Hinderer too.
@@inthepocket7405 ,I never handled a Hinderer. I think I need to get my hands on one for sure. It is a classic knife, si it belongs to a collection. 😊. Gladly they are much cheaper now than some years ago. Wonder if you can get a full custom Hinderer? That would be sooo cool, but expensive 😄👍
@@inthepocket7405 , oh, and about the Resolza by Extrema Ratio. You can get them in 3 sizes(S, M & L) and 2 finishes (all black & Stonewashed). I have the Large, All black. If you like a beautiful, large and sleek design, this is for you. It's almost 13 inches with the blade out. The blade is 6", but 5.5" sharp. When closed it's about 7", that is the handle length also. But it is so thin and sleek that it fits perfectly in your pockets. The blade is very sharp and pointy. You easily open it one handed in all directions and all styles, fingers, thumb. And so smoooooth😊. I will buy the Small version, Stonewashed. Just to have an nice, little pocket knife for cutting apples, dry meat and other stuff. Highly recommend. Buy it before it's gone from the marked. It is maybe pricey, but when you think of it, they often take like $100 an inch for a custom Resolza. And this is very High Quality.👍
Correct about the 25. No longer made and replaced by the Inkosi. Might still be a few new ones left at dealers, at least there were about a year ago.
Anthony Miller Thanks for the info in both of these comments:) that’s what I thought, but I didn’t want to say it with conviction, not knowing for sure👍
Omg mommy dis knife so perfect
Doesnt the timber scale on the clip side get in the way going in and out of the pocket.
Good video. I really want to check out the new 31
neroknives thanks man. Aren’tyou at blade show,or on your way? You’re going to get to see them:) I’m sure they will have samples there.
NO 31 FOR YOU BITCH!
Love crk
Have a large sebenza 21 and an umnumzaan, a large inkosi will be next. Thinking about the tanto blade. Looks so good.
I've got the same natural micarta with s45vn blade steel Inkosi. I wish I would have waited for the plain titanium and saved the $100 and put it towards some cool ingravings and anodizing or maybe just find a scale I like.
Just ordered the Inkosi so here I am hoping to have the expense vindicated.🤞
FYI, CRK went to 59-60 HRC in the fourth quarter of 2013. Everything from then on is 59-60.
Eh.. my 25 is from December 2014 and the birth card says 58-59.
@@SuperSteelSteve Per Anne Reeve, they didn't update the birthcards immediately, and so there are quite a lot out there that say 58-59, but if they were made after late 2013, they have the new HT.
@@SuperSteelSteve Here's Anne Reeve's statement about it: www.bladeforums.com/threads/edge-holding.1320909/page-2#post-15207585
@@haldendoerge so they lied to me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I had it HRC tested professionally.. it was 59.
I'm on Instagram @chefcallari
I'll show you
The 25 has a much larger radius to the hollow grind, so much closer to being flat than say a Sebenza or Inkosi but still a hollow.
Didn't know that. Thank's
Inkosi has a shallow hollow grind and the sebenza has a deeper hollow. Inkosi and sebenza are different grinds.
Been feening a CRK lately. After talking with Steve about it he confirmed that it’s not overhyped it’s just that good. I think in the very near future I’ll be picking one up 😃just have to decide the model...
iheart Knives Yeah man, I always thought it might be a bunch of hype, due to a lot of talk in the community, then I handled Steve’s 25... all doubt and speculation melted away into pure joy and astonishment👍 They are really on another level. People talk about tank knives, and for me, this is a tank knife, that cuts and carries great. Hence why Steve picked as his “Tank” knife of 2018. I think you would be pretty amazed buddy:) I’m probably going to pick up a 21 or 31 before the years over. I need more lol
InThePocket I’m thinking within the next couple months I’m gonna be acquiring one. I’m 90% set on the zaan then the doubt kicks in and I think about a sebenza or inkosi.
iheart Knives just picked up s zaan about a week ago. I had a small sebenza before. Handles different that the sebenza but so far it’s really incredible. I’d say go for the zaan but I am biased and they are all incredible really
Mr Krieg I’m leaning more towards a large sebenza or inkosi. Either one id get micarta inlays I think just to give it added width and aesthetics too but mainly to fit in the hand better. But I’ll definitely keep the zaan in mind! Thank you for your input I really appreciate it!
I've had my new Large Inkosi for 3-4 days now. At first, I thought "OMFG, what have I done!?" Spent $450 on a knife that's stiff, heavy, plainer looking than other CRKs (by and large), and the most expensive effing knife that I've ever had to save for since I was 3 years old (I'm 70 now)! But looking back after a few days, I've now come to realize that it's just normal for this knife. I had nothing to worry about at all, and after spending a couple hours altogether opening and closing the knife and maybe backing the pivot out slightly, I can say the knife has taken on a new classier and more functional, useful character. I'm quite happy with its smooth, solid feel, and I believe that more improvement is just around the corner. It ain't no flipper, though, but it's not intended to be. Still, however, it's not in the same league as any of my 3 Chinese copycat CRKs. They were like glass right-out-of-the-box compared to my Inkosi, and I got all 3 of them for about 1/8th the price of the Inkosi. Live and learn.
It’s definitely not a knife that you get value from looking at it, or playing with it. More of a knife that gets its value from use and longevity. That knife could be passed down to your kids, and their kids, and then you grandchild could send it in for spa treatment, and pretty much get back a brand new knife. Can’t do that with the Chinese knock offs... I totally get that you could just buy another one, but I’d rather just buy once, cry once. I’ve got four crk’s at this point, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything... even more expensive customs in most cases.
@@inthepocket7405 Happy to hear about your experiences with your CRKs. Thx.
PJ Inkosi's are even better, they mill out so much Titanium for those inlays that the weight loss affects the action poorly IMO
I wish I had Kenny’s happy mug on my blades
Lol you say that, but...
For some reason all the blades favor the show side just a little bit I think it might be from the frame lock putting just a little bit of pressure
All what blades?
Oh my god, flicking the Inkosi! I love it cuz everyone hates it!
Joshua Wilson Hahahaha 😁😉
Holy moly u almost sliced your foot and hand cutting cardboard. Becareful and enjoy cutting. Check out the sebenza 31
MetalsForBrunch sometimes I think the perspective makes it seem closer than it actually is. I cut myself plenty as a carpenter for over a decade, and learned many lessons of approach;) thanks brother. Yeah, I think I will eventually try a 31, and just got my first 21👍👊
Are you from Ohio ? I’m from the Cleveland area!
No I’m not... I live in California. I dealt with Brian from RiversEdge over emails.
So I guess the hype matches reality.
Kinda disappointing that it was struggling to cut paper after 5 minutes of cardboard cutting 🫤
The knife will withstand the flicking, but be advised that it places lots of pressure on the ceramic ball against the blade steel. It will unnecessarily cause the ball to cut a groove into the blade lock surface area. Just open the knife normally. It’s not a Spyderco.

I’ve got the Large micarta Sebenza 21 with Insingo blade and think ergos are good. I have the Knife Art Exclusive Large Carbon Fiber Inkosi with an Insingo Blade arriving in a couple of days. I wonder whst the difference will be with a carbon fiber scale vs the inlays. I know it’ll be lighter, but I wonder if it’ll be a plus or negative for the ergos? Excellent review and my Insingo Blade Sebenza has the same bte thickness as your Drop point inkosi. Nice review Kenny. I believe you covered it all.
John M. Runyon How did I miss this comment John🤔 How did it work out, comparing the ergos? I do prefer the micarta inlaid versions in hand. Although, handling BJ’s 21, with plain handles, I would gladly take one of those too, and it’s really not bad. I think I might get the 31 with an insingo, plain handle config, since I’m not that into the inlay pattern. I’m not sure, but will find out soon, but it seems like the bte thickness is similar between the two, but the 21 insingo has a deeper hollow, and would maintain that bte thickness for a lot longer, and slice better. It also has a thinner stock thickness. Thanks so much buddy:)
InThePocket funny. I told iheartknives the samething. My next one (31) will be a plain Jane. I love the way the ti ages. Inlays cover that up. I prefer the 21, but that might be due to the inlays making it feel better.
