This song is like "The Weight"...a timeless classic, that no matter the setting, the different ways it's sang, it's always the same: Fantastic! Gary sang it for almost 50 yrs, and folks NEVER tired of it. I surely don't! RIP, Gary!
Love the Hammond organs too! Had lessons on one, growing up. Thanks to my dear music head Dad, had a Baldwin CT2 with a Leslie at home, growing up! As they say, the rest is history!! Peace out.
This year I'm 72 and remember this so well from 60s. It's accompanied me through all my life. Good times and not so good. I still love it every time I hear it and it awakens in me memories of yesterday
This is one of the finest popular songs ever written. It is interesting to hear how little Gary Brooker's voice changed over the years, by listening to their inaugural official video recording.
Was born in 67 so I can't help say this is what you call true musicians, what's real in musicianship, some of the best at their craft, up on stage being backed by a whole orchestra, beautiful stuff, the sound out of this world..................💪💪👍🙏🙏🙏🎶🎼🎶🎼🎹

This song was used to signify closing time every night at the bar in a college town I worked at fifty years ago. Being a slow dance song it was not only last call at the bar but also last call for the guys to either get their new found loves phone numbers or perhaps be invited home. Memories do turn to black and white but such songs bring it all back.
"I'm not sure if we played this the last time..." . Little tongue in cheek there. I'm sure that he wouldn't have been allowed to leave town until he did.
The summer of 1967. Good songs the last of the good Summer songs. I lived in Northern California along the Redwoods. In the summer I drive forklift in the fields moving bins for people the bends for the pictures. I had my 10 transistor radio FM kfrc. The best ear nose of the saddest. Sometimes I go horseback riding through the Redwoods listen to all these good songs. How long do Russian River Sonoma County. Healdsburg California.🤟🏽🤙🏽🖖🏽😎😞💔🎹💓💓👍🏼👏🏽
I believe they were only one hit wonders in the US. I think in Europe they had a couple. But they gave concerts for the rest of their lives so I don’t think that was such a bad deal.
Listened to this for years, born in '67, and I still have no idea what this song is about, and Im not sure I care. I like discovering lyrics and meaning gradually over the years, as it always remains fresh. The organ pulls melancholy strings in me, the lyrical melody drones on, and the punch of "And so it WAS that later..." is magical. I'll never tire of this great song and arrangement. RIP Gary🙏

What a stunning performance he gave, I have never heard someone of his years give a performance that is just as good as it was all the way back then, but he does. Beautiful song, wonderful singer, fabulous players and orchestra
Remember when music was good and life had meaning and there was more peace and happiness
came out during the war in Vietnam ..a month before I went in...less than a year before MLK and RFK were murdered

Favorite slow dance tune in high school.❤
This one and Nights in White satin were the " go too" lights dim , slow dance at the school disco's when I was 14 .. back then .. haha ...
I was in high school too. It was one of my all time favourite songs. Where did all those years go?
I was 8 years old in 1.967....Oh God...such memories most of them beautiful and that also make them painful!
