💯 Your model looks beautiful! What's particularly impressive is how you've skillfully applied fundamental techniques to get the most out of a simple kit. The most fascinating aspect is that you've demonstrated it's not necessary to load a model with tons of aftermarket parts in our hobby. This is modeling at its finest-congratulations!
Thanks Patrick, I agree, it's not necessary for a good build, some refinements can help but they are simple things, like the reinforcing of the panel line or thinning parts.!
Fantastic. What a great job of such a small kit. Addictive TV. Well done
Thankyou Charles ! 😀
The paint looks like real wood. Also, airbrushing skill makes the paint go easy. Over the years in paint and modeling, you have built up unique skills. Your wethering skill has put envy to other modelers, even me. Would you consider doing tutorials in your future. Sign me up. Myself, I model HO trains. However, Ì have modeled aircraft once in a while. Mike
@@michaeljones9195 thanks. I have done a couple of tutorial vids , woodgrain and leather, what were you thinking?
Breathtaking and utterly enjoyable
Thanks Les !
What a great build, James! It's unbelievable that this is in 1/72 scale. 👌You make it all look so easy. Once again, like all your builds, it's a great tutorial.
Another stunner!
Thanks a lot !
Nicely done.
I particularly liked the wood effect on the propeller.
Oh man, that rigging 😮
Another superb build. Lovely 😘
thanks Bas , hope you're well !
Very enjoyable, great finish.impressed how well the rib masking came out. Weathering looks superb.
Stunning result.
Thank you! 😊
A wonderful build. So much exquisite detail in such a small model.
Thanks Sera !
Beautiful result. I appreciate your detailing the various techniques and materials you used.
Again, another zen like video of a great build with a wonderful outcome.
It’s not good. It is freaking GREAT! 😆 Bi-plane rigging in any scale scares me but I’m going to take the plunge. Builds like yours are the inspiration and kick in the pants I need. Much thanks. 😊
Cracking model, looks bigger than 72nd which says everything about your detail and painting technique, just amazing well done. 😀👍
Very nice build WW1 Aircraft looking good lower wing & upper wing biplane. Of all WW1 aircraft this one is unique.
Thanks 😀
Absolutely amazing!
thanks mate !
Great job James .
Excellent result, James, considering the pedigree of the model. You should be proud of the outcome.
Thanks a lot John, I am proud of this, and I'm a bit of a harsh self critic so it's unusual for me to be so pleased with an outcome 😀
That's a great build, looks brill.
Thank you kindly
Absolutely fantastic result! WWI planes always scare me, but your techniques and video editing make it look much more approachable. Looks amazing!
Thanks a lot !
It was so Damn Good, if you'll told me, it was 1/48 scale I'd believed you......Top draw stuff!!😻😻
Thanks Basil 😀
Wow, great and incredible job, fantastic
Many thanks Alvise
I would have thought exactly the same about the fabric texture on the moulding ! You did make the right call but blimey yea they got that wrong ! Excellent job
Well done. Beautiful colors.
I am pleased with your work and skill. Not everyone will be able to assemble an old model. (The "Eastern Express" has been terribly preserved to this day - "Firewood" in one word. )
Oh no ? So they treated the moulds badly ? Thanks for the kind words
Fun times !!!!
Stunning build. Loads of tips and tricks to try so thanks for sharing.
This was a 100% excellent build, as for the scale too small for me, I wished I had have broight o e of WNW kits before they went 'belly up' , keep doing what yoy are doing, again a excellent build, bedt regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👌👍👌👍👌👍
Thanks Les ! Copper state do some excellent 1/32 ww1 at reasonable prices. The neuiports are excellent
First thing, from the star I was sure, You will win. :D Second: result is absolutely gorgeous. Really great done. Especially keeping in mind it is 1/72 scale. TOKO is forgotten company, but I remember how great was my shock, when I saw they made instructions in CAD even in 1998 (I have An-74 from that company). They are surprisingly good. Overall, result is perfect. All the best for You! ;)
Great video build! Very well done. The old Toko 1 1/2 Strutter is one of my favorite kits of one of my favorite warbirds. Thanks again.
Thankyou 😀 I must admit this kit was a blast and has improved my confidence with 1/72 ww1 aircraft.
This just too good. Top notch work.
Good Friday afternoon…
From OHIO 🇺🇸
I’ve rigged a couple of aircraft
1/72 Spad and 1/144 Japanese seaplane…
Tough going for sure…
BUT, the final results are VERY MUCH WORTH IT…
I am a subscriber, I’ve learned a lot from watching your channel…
Would like to try making stencils for markings…
I’ll probably watch this again….
CHRIS 🇺🇸
thanks Chris, a well rigged model makes a huge difference IMO :)
Looks pretty good to me James, excellent result from an old limited run kit - only thing I would have done differently is made it British....!! 😊Nice to see a good CZcams video on something other than the newest super kit - it's inspired me to get back to my stalled Airfix 1/72 Brisfit! Keith
Thanks Keith ! I'm always tempted by captured or unusual markings 😀
An excellent finish and has made me want to have a go with one of these kits.
This has persuaded me to have a go at some 1:48 Eduard Great War biplanes I bought. Thank you James!
Found the info I needed: "Photographs have emerged of captured Sopwith aircraft in German markings - ‘Strutter’ A1914 at Alderschof after it was captured last September when the pilot got lost on its delivery flight, ran out of fuel and landed in German territory and 3(N) Sqdn ‘Pup’ N6161 shot down 1st February this year. Both pilots are prisoners of war." That was from Kingston Aviation, Sopwith Day by Day which is online if anyone wants to see the pics. 'Aldershof' is most likely a misprint of Adlershof, an airfield in Berlin.
Thanks Simon ! I found that blog when researching this one, there seems to be another one with fully green sides and a linen patch around the serial number. I couldn't find pics of my specific version. Good luck with the builds, bit more wiggle room in 48th
@@lpjmodels yes I'd noticed that Toko changed the serial number to A1913 as well.
I've had a good Google and can't find any other photos of her, how dug this up from Kingston Aviation too: "On 13th September 54 Squadron’s A1914 on its delivery flight from Castle Bromwich to St Omer gets lost in cloud, runs out of fuel and lands near Thielt in German territory. It is captured intact and sent to Alderschof for evaluation. 2nd Lt A F Organ is taken prisoner of war." 54 Sqn RFC was based at Castle Bromwich and moved to the Western Front by December 1916. Wiki lists them as flying Pups hower.
Great job,James - good to see you back!
Thanks PPP ! Got other things in the pipeline just so slow at the moment
Wow! Pretty good.👍👍👍!
Excellent job, James.....the outcome of your labour is sensational and, for such a small scale! Nothing more needed on this kit....the result says it all.
Nice build! I like the frame effect with the PC12. Thanks for taking the time to document your build for us. These Toko/Roden/Eastern 1/72 WWI models are quite charming and reasonably priced compared to Eduard. (Eduard 1/72 WWI are such a pleasure to build though...) I bought a stack of these little Tokos from a buddy downsizing a couple of years ago and have yet to build any. The 45 degree crosshatch fabric surfaces are a bit pronounced. After seeing this build I plan to use high build surfacer and sand a bit to get rid of that texture.
Surprising how large this aircraft was- and how large it is in 1/72. Love the way you detail your weathering technique!
Incredible build! Thank you for sharing your techniques. You’ve answered so many questions I’ve had about painting biplanes as I return to the hobby after 50 years. I’m building 1/48. I think there are more subjects available in 1/72 but it’s too small for my old hands and eyes.
nice
Thanks KS !
Great build 🏆
Very smartly done! 👌🏻👍🏻👏🏻
Glad you think so!
Excellent, I build 1/72 and 1/32 biplanes and you did a good job on the painting and rigging. The 1/2 strutter has one of the easier wing assembles, Try two or four bay or latice tails for extra grief!
I have the Copper state 1/48 Caudron bomber in the stash, look scary !
I should like to see that, I am sure you will acquit yourself admirably. 😊
Beautiful work
Thank you! Cheers!
James absolutely a stunning build & a great lesson in painting, weathering and Rigging, very very nice 👍👌😎
Great :) Think this is your best one so far!
Nice❤️❤️❤️
thanks JMC !
Well done Sir, you managed to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Nice.
Awesome work
Thanks a lot 😊
Outstanding build, came out really well. Still not sure I will ever tackle a 1/72 WW1 subject!!
I was pleasantly surprised, I took more care than normal with the wing. Honestly the sm55 by dorawings was trickier with the tail boom
Great build and video, looking forward to the next one.
More to come!
Excellent build! The prop is a work of art!!
Thanks Mark !
Great build, thanks for this
What a great job you did! Very impressed by your entry and everyone else's hard work.
you are ridiculously talented! Love your vids, thank you!
That's very kind thankyou Stuart
SU-PERB!
(You only missed the brown colour for the Lewis gun drum handle)😉
let me know what you think of this build! do you like to build 1/72 WWI Aircraft or does the rigging put you off?
Nice to see a 1/72 scale model look that good without replacing parts with higher quality parts.😊
@@fus149hammer5 that's a good point. Despite its age it held up well. I could have gone to town with it, but didn't need to !
Overall, I avoid any kits in 1/72 like the plague. There is a point where it just becomes too tedious for me and I don't enjoy it. I stick with 1/32 kits or larger, I even do a lot of 1/16 armor. For me, bigger is better. That said, that was a beautiful result you got from that kit.
It's absolutely brilliant. I always learn something from your videos. Carry on !😊
Belo trabalho!
Thankyou 😀
Great build and a wonderful video showing all the techniques used. I also loved the “I quickly knocked up a gun mount in fusion 360” comment. I can barely create a square box using CAD 😳🤪 let alone a replacement kit part!
A técnica e os detalhes são incríveis, O resultado é exatamente Espetácular 🎖🌟👏
Nice job! I prefer aircraft, particularly WW I aircraft, to be in 1/48 scale.
Thanks ! Sometimes it's hard to squeeze in the detail on smaller aircraft
cool
It's unquestionable that your build deserves an award, but I don't think that's the purpose of scale modelling. The purpose is to enjoy a build, perhaps learn a few more things about our skills and interact with fellow scale modellers to exchange views and opinions. Again, my kudos for your excellent build.
It's just for fun, none of us were competing for anything really, I would have been happy to come last as long as everyone had fun and enjoyed trying something new
@@lpjmodels Here, here.
Amazing build as usual! Can you please share how you make your sprue goo? It looks different than what I’ve seen. Thank you!
Thanks ! Mostly I used clear sprue, it was dyed with laquer paint but over time that has sunk to the bottom leaving it 99% clear
Thank you, James! Very much appreciated.
👌👌👌👌
Cheers man !
I think that you dit macknefesenli .😊👍
Thanks !
Well I think she is stunning, what a loverly video. I tend to use packing sponge for wood grain, have you tried that method? works better on larger scales in fairness wonder if you had tried it?
I have not tried that yet, I like carving the brush through the paint to make the grain, its a bit theraputic , I'll have to give it a go on a future build
A “flying Tudor house.” 😂 Your model is certainly not that! Well done.
excellent job! nice rigging too! what was that wire again?
Absolutely beautiful build. First prize if you ask me! What material do you use for the rigging?
how was your eyesight after this endeavour?
All I see is rigging wires
do you have an addiction to sepia?
Can't get enough
Sound is too low on this video.
My apologies. I tried to fix it in the studio here on CZcams but there was no option to alter the volume.
@@lpjmodels . Lovely end result anyway. 👏👏👏
Nice modelling but needs work on his fractions. 1 1/2th…
Can't be good at everything
Why on Earth did you use the German transfers?!
