    As a detailer I started out using Microfiber towels and they work, but I never went through a whole vehicle without having to ring it out multiple times. The same with the waffle towels. It also would take forever to dry a vehicle and time is money when you are a detailer. I then moved to using a blower and my partner goes right behind me with a micro fiber to get any small excess. That process was a game changer as I can get a sedan completely dry in less than 5 minutes and I did time it. My blower is a lawn blower, was $68 dollars, has a speed control, and can blow at 250 mph.. I believe it is cheaper than the one's marketed for vehicles, and is more powerful. It has been a game changer ever since. In short, if you are planning on being a detailer, I disagree with the thought that microfiber and waffle towels are the best to use.

  • @Krysco51
    @Krysco51 Před 9 lety +3

    My personal opinion for car drying is this:
    1. Completely soak a waffle weave in water and ring out. It works alot better imo if its wet vs dry. If you start with it dry, it doesnt suck up as much water until it gets wet enough.
    2. Dry all surfaces this way, ringing out as you go.
    3. Use a gas powered leaf blower to hit all the cracks, crevices, grilles, lugs etc.
    4. Give the car a quick spray down with a detail spray
    5. Go over the car with a microfiber towel, getting any missed water (there shouldnt be much left at this point) and buff to a shine.
    You can always detail spray the car before step 2 if you prefer. I used to do it that way, but found that I liked this way better. I always use the leaf blower on step 3 as its easier for me vs getting out an extension cord. I also do not recommend using just air to dry the car. It takes ALOT longer to dry with a leaf blower than a wet towel.

    I'm really disappointed that they are actually recommending using a water blade. A water blade is pretty much the fastest way to leave scratches in your paint, short of drying it with sandpaper. Lol. Even if you are 100% perfect & don't miss any spots at all (we all do), it is likely that a small amount of dust or pollen will land on the vehicle between the time you wash & the time you dry. You're just asking for scratch city. Just listen to it. It's like nails on a chalkboard because there is no lubrication. Sad.

    I don't know about for most people or if the water I use is just full of chemicals but I found that using one microfiber to get my car fairly dry still leaves tons of watermarks I have found that the best thing to do after you've gone over it once with a microfiber is go over it again with microfiber buffing towel and get it dry dry that leaves me with the best finish

    • @ChemicalGuys
      @ChemicalGuys  Před 6 lety

      Hi Quentin, thanks for watching. You usually need a few towels because your first towel will eventually so gunked up with dirt, that you will spread the dirt back onto your paint work. Trucks require more absorbency, and using a big towel will eventually get soaked, in which case you will need a secondary towel to get the job done. As far as minerals go, using deionized water is the recommended method to avoid leaving behind water spots which damages the paint in the long run. A good way to complete a detail is to use a quick detail spray to remove any water spots left over from buffing the paint.

Would one pad be enough to use for the entire car (kia soul)? It would just be used for the scratch removing step. Of course I would have different pads for polishing and waxing.

    • @ChemicalGuys
      @ChemicalGuys  Před 7 lety

      Hi Bryan,
      We have the perfect method for you to keep your MF towels clean and ready-to-use for your next detail. First, separate the towels by type to keep grimy towels away from cleaner paint towels. Start by washing cleaner paint towels first, then finish with the grimier towels. Machine wash mircrofiber good with our Microfiber Wash (link below) with HOT water. Hot water opens up the fibers to better release dirt and grease. DO NOT use fabric softeners because they clog the microfibers and render them useless. Machine dry the towels on LOW heat. The high heat cooks the fibers, making them hard and putting you at risk of scratching your paint. Again, DO NOT use fabric softeners.
      Happy detailing and thank you for being part of the Chemical Guys family!

    I used to use a leather shammy (the same one from the vid) and it doesn't dry a full car. You'd have to wring it out a maybe 4 times or else it'll leave a little water behind and ull get water spots. And thats on a car the size of a camry. Also it has a chance of scratching ur paint. If you're deadset on using one, I'd only recommend it for light colored cars. Please don't waste your money on a squeegee lol. You'll fuck up your paint and spend 10x the time drying it. Go with a microfiber drying towel like a waffle weave. They're a few dollars more than a leather shammy but they wont mess up your paint and if you take care of them, they'll last a long time. If you're a serious detailer then the best option is to use a blower. They cost allot but they're the best.

    • @ChemicalGuys
      @ChemicalGuys  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Oscar, good question. Yes, a chamois would more cost effective because you can simply wring it out and then use it again. It's the fastest and easiest way to dry multiple vehicles! However, keep in mind that a microfiber towel provides better protection against swirling and scratching because it has thousands of little microfiber strands that suck up dirt and debris, whereas a chamois is a "flat" surface. Thanks for watching, Oscar, and thanks for being a part of the Chemical Guys family!

Microfiber Wash contains no bleach, no fabric softeners, and is safe on all color microfiber goods. Easily clean and rejuvenate microfiber towels, blankets, sheets, bedding, and clothing with fantastic results. Microfiber Wash opens the billions of strands inside microfiber fabric to gently release dirt and grime. Microfiber towels require special cleaning, and Microfiber Wash is specifically designed to clean sensitive microfiber goods. The innovative citrus-based formula is all-natural and will not chemically-burn microfiber, keeping it as soft as the day it was made. Microfiber Wash contains water softeners that neutralize minerals and calcium to ensure your microfiber goods rinse perfectly clean and soft.

    • @johnbarron4265
      @johnbarron4265 Před 4 lety

      You're probably drying your car in the sun, and/or taking too long to dry it. A regular towel will get saturated with water very quickly and lose its absorbing qualities. First use a foam squeegee to pull off most of the standing water. Then come back with a waffle weave microfiber drying towel to absorb any remaining traces of water. You'll be done drying much quicker and more thoroughly. Not a spec of mineral deposits to be seen.

      Hi Thomas, it could be used with some degree of caution, however it would not be our first choice. If you decide to use one, use it on a very low setting to avoid kicking up dust around the car and putting it back on the car. Be mindful that the longer nozzle/air output shaft doesn't ever come in contact with the car as it could scratch the paint. We prefer the Jet Speed because of its perfect output, easy to handle size, and flexible nozzle that has a lesser chance of scratching your car should it come in contact with the paint. Happy detailing!
