That Carbine looks like a Universal, but looked like it was in "new in box" condition. That molded plastic magazine was prone to splitting at the seam by the feed lips and your pressing it against the vise was not helping feeding. Some military magazines fit okay, but I always have to alter the banana (30 round) magazines as their locking tabs were lower on the body. A few passes with a file usually did the trick.
Your right, that's a Universal. I'm thinking bad mag, lack of lubrication and not knowing what brand of ammo their using.
Yeah, that plastic magazine is getting retired.
My dad bought that Universal about 45 years ago... I don't think he ever put more than 10 rounds through it, so yes, it's nearly NIB condition (I just don't have the box.)
Thanks for commenting on it.
@@DrVonZuko That is about the same time I bought mine, either at T.G.&Y. or Western Auto, only cost $99.😁
Its no wonder I have amassed over 50 mil-surp rifles from communist countries all over the world, but I own not a single U.S. military rifle. But I did aquire a Mini-14 18 years ago and it's a fine shooting firearm. Thank you for your service and happy trails to ya.

I was hoping to see the venerable M-1 Garand. But these two workhorses will do.
Thanks for watching our video.
