It’s so striking to me (and not at all surprising) that being That Christian Girl involves zero service to others, no extension of love to or even baseline consideration for “the least of these,” and overall very little thought about anyone but herself. Everything is about how God can serve her. It’s Jesus as your personal life coach.

That's because a lot of Christians that want other people to be Christian as well or spread the gospel online, are often very narcissistic, they want people to be like them and portray themselves as better and godlier.

Don't get me wrong but if she had posted something related to service, you or someone else would've probably said 'you shouldn't brag about being generous and helping people' if you had a look at her accounts you would see that she does help people, the video was about her routine not what every Christian should do. I do agree with you, in case you mean that we should serve others (no matter the religion) Also, nobody on the internet is perfect. Please judge less, love more. Take care!

How to be a Christian man: worship god and work.
How to be a Christian woman: worship god, get married young, have children, be beautiful, make food for everyone, work out, wear modest clothing but still be appealing, wear makeup but don’t look like a slut, be a virgin before marriage but be a nymph after marriage, pray, be literally perfect.

Depends what we are talking about. The “that Christian girl” in question is clearly a lordshipper which means she falls into the antichrist worshiper category. All cults fall into this category. Mormons, Catholics, Pentecostals, jahovahs witness. Yes they are hypocrites. Yes the Bible says they will be cast out with the hypocrites.
However there is another camp. The free grace camp. Free Grace Christians can do whatever they want. We are under Gods grace. It prevents us from being hypocrites because we have Christs imputed righteousness. Therefore no matter what sins we commit they have already been paid for, and God only sees Christ in our place. Even hypocrisy itself is a sin which has already been paid for by The True Christ. All you must do to be saved is believe in the price He paid for your sins in His own Blood on the cross. Then you’re saved forever, and can never lose that salvation. OSAS is the gospel.

Former Evangelical Christian here - She mentioned that anyone is “welcome here”, and that is still a huge reason why I struggle with the Christian outlook on life. I was a youth leader for middle and high school students before I left the church. We had some recent high school graduates (they had been in a relationshiip for a while) who found themselves in “hot water” with the church because they got pregnant out of marriage. The church 100% turned their back on these kids, because they had sexual relations outside of marriage. It didn’t matter to the church that these 2 kids had JUST moved out on their own, are still trying to figure out how the world works, and needed help when they found out they were about to add a baby to all of that. I was LIVID. I have been out of the church since 2018, and am absolutely still trying to find out who I am (I am still a believer, but I am not shy to say I certainly am still doubting and questioning the teachings that were so engrained into my brain growing up) but I knew that a church should NEVER treat people the way they treated these young adults. They both spent a decent portion of their middle and high school years being super actively involved in the church and never asked for an ounce of help until their son came into their life. It breaks my heart that there is so much hypocrisy within the Christian faith, and I absolutely agree that when I was actively involved in “growing my relationship” with my faith that I ended up sitting in a place of judgement instead of compassion and understanding. I could go on for a while .. 😂 But I appreciate you two making this video. This was actually the very first video I ever watched on your channel .. I’m digging this content. No hate to people who are Christians or actively practice, but I feel you should be able to have conversations about faith. It doesn’t matter if you believe, are questioning or if you don’t believe. We are humans, we should totally enjoy getting to have conversations with others with any topic, religion included if parties involved are open minded and out of a judge mental/offended state of mind. Anyway .. I’m done ranting now 😂

The thing is that God has a lot of rules that are mentioned in the Bible. The church follows them, and people don’t like the disciplinary side of faith. Don’t get me wrong I disagree with it, but I think it’s more of a matter of reflection that maybe this is not the God you should be following. That helped me to think about how coming out of religion isn't just a one step immediate thing. It was so hard because religion was baked into so many things about me and how I saw myself. The journey is an individual one, but the hope I can give you is that the other side is SO good. I'm so much happier, confident and self-assured. Therapy helps a lot too. As a professional translator, I could never understand how people could rely on texts translated multiple times, with various agendas, without having a cultural context for translations centuries after the fact, when even one translation these days, with multiple technology available, can horribly distort the meaning. Also, when you have been reading myths from multiple countries and see similar patterns and stories everywhere, it doesn't necessarily stop you from having faith in the higher power per se (because I do believe in it, just different cultures see it differently), but it does stop you from adhering to just one rigid interpretation of one specific text.

Just bc a person is sharing sth doesn't mean they are aware of every difference of every human being on this planet or that they are trying to disrespect someone. Agreed. It's okay to feel anxious about some things: it's an experience all people have. It becomes a problem when anxiety dominates your life and motivates all your choices. These are distinct concepts.

After everyone is delivered to their respective school/care facilities, I "work out" WHILE at work (because if you can be anything, you should be efficient, right?) by lifting caskets, and hefting floral arrangements about, because the funeral industry is great for your core strengthening. I become my best self by forgetting to eat, I mean intermittent fasting, and only eating clean, vegan meals such as six Oreos directly out of the container because all the plates are dirty. Then I'd seek the lord and read the bible desperately searching for some revelation. Then I'd "get a word" and zoom back into ecstacy.
It took me a number of years after deconversion to get out of that emotional cycle (even though it was no longer associated with God) . Now I can feel myself going manic (as opposed to regular happiness or joy) and can cut that off before I get high. Doesn't happen much anymore, fortunately.

The whole concept of “finding yourself” is a bit strange to me. As a teen I never once thought “I don’t know who I am. I need to figure that out.” What I did stress about what what god intended for me. It felt like every sermon I attended was talking about god’s purpose for my life and I didn’t know. It felt like everyone knew their god-given gifts and I was just there, giftless. Once I accepted that it’s my life and I didn’t need to worry about what I was supposed to do there was nothing to worry about. I wish people would stop treating life like a check list with an end goal. From my understanding, life is a long, winding road of experiences. Not a checklist to be completed as soon as possible.

I feel like the aesthetic that the Christian influencers go for is very farmhouse inspired, maybe some residual boho, which was popular between 2010 and 2020. I would say from personal observation. The trend was heavily influenced in my area by Hobby Lobby, which is actually a Christian company that sells mass produced decor items. Also, the “Christian-ification” of Target as well, Target being the holy grail of Christian decor because of Joanna Gaines, who I believe is very openly Christian. Target also sells mass produced decor items. Both have a similar mass produced style that is accessible to the Christian demographic, in my experience and in my area, very easily. In my past experience as a Christian, you feel better about yourself when you “support” a Christian individual or company, and thus gravitate towards it more. I don't wish for anyone to lose their community but I do wish people would stop voting based on a narrow interpretation of an ancient book.

In addition, all these Christian girlies make the Bible and their religion+routine their entire personality. If you take that away, most of them have nothing else of substance to them as people.

    • @bravegrumpy689
      @bravegrumpy689 Před 10 měsíci +7

Yes, as @aazhie said, being Jewish can be a racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identity.
Within the Jewish culture, being Jewish is passed down through the mothers line. And due to generational trauma and historical tragedy, you don't loose Jewishness just because you convert to some other religion.
There are also lots of cultural practices that have nothing to do with following an organized religion. Such as foods, typical days of rest, asthetics, etc.
Another example would be: I was raised in a Jewish household, but not in a Jewish area, so the first time I ever heard of Santa was in the first grade, and we had to color in a picture of this random fat guy with a beard. Naturally I was confused when I was told to make the coat red, as I didn't know of the cultural figure. This isn't a religious thing. It's a cultural thing.
A large amount of Jews raised in a moderate form of the religion would see themselves as agnostic/atheists, as a lot of the religious practices also have nothing to do with a diety and more to do with meditation or interpersonal relationships. And the religion itself also calls for critical thinking.

The gospel transformed her and she wants to show that by entering their world in a way they understand which also happens to be how she lives and letting them know about Jesus. ❤

I grew up atheist, and at 16, I had a pretty stable sense of myself. I was actually helping a lot of my friends talk through their own struggles with identity and religion (I became pagan in my teens). Many of them were so used to being told who they were and what they were supposed to do that, even if they chafed at the prescriptions of Christianity and their families, turned to me to tell them now. They lacked the process of thinking things all the way through, to struggle with morality, to feel comfortable in their bodies (oh boy, that was a big one), to find what mattered to them...
Christianity absolutely inhibits the process of finding one's self and becoming the best version of themselves. It attempts to shut down critical thinking and is primarily concerned with conformity and with imparting rules for life that are no longer applicable in our modern world. And, I would argue, it creates a distrust of everything that is not Christian, impeding a true connection with those around us, ultimately leading to a sense of alienation and fear. It sucks.

The walking thing has a mental benefit outside of a break or exercise (or prayer obviously), it's called bilateral simulation. Basically the rhythmic motion if your body is literally mentally healing, anyone who has participated in FLASH or EMDR with a good therapist has experienced this. Bilateral stimulation is just a component of these techniques, but an important one as it helps your brain process information and get a bit of an emotional reset. Anyone who has left for a walk in a state of anger and returned calmer and with a different perspective has some experience with the benefit of bilateral stimulation. It's not a magic bullet but any means, and it definitely helps to do this in a therapeutic setting because a good therapist can give you that different perspective you might miss on your own and help guide you through your feelings.

My biggest concern with this trend in general, religion centered aside. Is that it soooo ableist. It completely leave people with chronic illnesses, and mobility issues out of the equation. Not everyone is young, or able to just go for walks without assistance. Or some people have good days and bad days where you're barely getting through painful conditions. It's so selfish to assume that everyone has the luxury of even walking their dog midday. Also some people live in horrible neighborhoods. I grew up in the southside of chicago, going for a walk usually resulted in me being followed by some creep. I didn't have a car to drive anywhere, or have money for a gym membership. Like these people live a life of privilege and it really shows.

To add to the topic of "not being challenged is easier" I firmly believe that is the case because why else would strict Christian parents like mine tell their kids they're "not allowed" to consume certain content. Like for instance one of my parents' things was Harry Potter because it was straight up "witchcraft". OR an even bigger thing was like...not "exposing" kids to gay people because then the kids will ask what being gay is. They would rather just avoid the topic altogether rather than have any confidence in expressing their opinions and views on the matter apparently.

We didn't go the whole nine with long skirts and full sleeves in summer but tight strapless tops and sleeveless short little tennis dresses would either be a complete no-no- or at least get you side-eye. I have noticed that a lot of these influencers, all of whom come from similar environments as my own, seem to have no issues showing skin, sometimes a lot of it. As an atheist today I think everyone should dress however they want. But these influencers belong to a religion that does NOT teach that, and yet they seem to ignore that.

Personally I hate the fact that "modesty" has become defined by our culture as "covering up". I hate that they feel like they have to justify how they want to dress. I want everyone to dress to their comfort level, and if that means covering yourself fully, that's what it means. If it means showing skin, that's also what it means. I just want everyone to be allowed to be themselves. I hate hearing stories of women being guilted into changing how they dress. In Ashley's case, I would tell her to wear what she wants and not let anyone tell her she should stop, but also to stop judging others or making videos about "cute but modest" clothing. Especially when modesty is so subjective and most of the people I used to go to church with would find a majority of her outfits immodest. It just opens the door to judgmental comments from followers like "how is that modest!?"

And I know that I still have it so much easier than so many other disabled people. Who has the time, money, or energy for any of this BS?
