Every scene in this movie is the best scene. Poor Leone, died thinking that his true vision for the movie would never see the light of day, after the studios massacred the theater release version. RIP to one of the greatest cinematic minds ever, and RIP to you to maestro Morricone.

His true vision still hasn't seen the light of day. He shot over.10 hours of footage and wanted to release two, three hour movies. Over half of his film has never been seen.

@@DocWattson it would have been a great trilogy, worthy of the godfather, maybe even better, and we would have seen a great Joe Pesci as a villain. today the public wants and appreciates the trilogies, but at the time it was a gamble and the producers didn't have the courage. from 10 hours to 3 hours, a massacred storyline. and despite everything it is a masterpiece.

    SHORT HISTORY OF A DISASTER
the original Leone movie was a total of 6 hours, which the director wanted to divide into two films of 3 hours each. Joe Pesci would be the villain protagonist (while with all the cuts it boils down to an extra) and we would have a two-part gangster movie as the godfather at the time. but unfortunately the producer did not have courage. Leone was forced to cut and submit a single 4 and a half hour film, but was again forced to cut, up to 3 hours and 40 minutes. he practically cut one of the two original films entirely. 3 hours and 40 minutes was the duration of the film in European cinemas, while in America the producer cut (unbeknownst to Leone) up to 2 hours and 20 minutes, and with the chronological sequence instead of the flashbacks! a resounding disaster. today the film has been restored in Italy and the blu-ray version is 4 hours (European version + 20 minutes of cut scenes). martin scorsese has announced that he will try to solve the problems related to the rights in order to publish the second original version of leone, the one for 4 and a half hours. unfortunately the hour and a half in which the bad character of joe pesci was built is lost forever.

Singleton shot Ricky’s death scene in BITH the way he did to make a hommage to this movie, but searching online after finishing the viewing, I found nobody who came to the same conclusion. It seems obvious for me tho, anyone shared the same thought?
Plus the message in both movies are kind of similar: in both the characters grew up in american hoods, and in both we see that choosing the life of crime in order to elevate yourself always ends up in tragedy (Ricky’s murderers and Doughboy in BITH, the whole cast in OUATIA)

You are correct - this is the most beautiful and important scene in the film. Everything else is about this scene. For example - we see Dominic’s death dying from (roughly) Noodle’s perspective - and Dominic’s hat flys out of his hand like a …… FRISBEE.
Dominic skipping in front to two mid-teens, followed by two younger kids - all dresses as adults! When Noodles comes out of prison - he’s wearing the same kid of cap as Dominic wore when he died.
I’m not sure Noodles ever gets out of prison.

There is a reason why post WW2 people didn't have the stomach for such television, because they have lived it, trauma and all that. When you see Women and Kids being dragged up by wires to lamposts by Soviet Troops, if you have any humanity in you, that might destroy the innocence within and once gone, it will never come back so it is precious.

What use to be called the hell hole or the ass end of Brooklyn… is now a hipster picturesque hangout…. Go figured that out?
Back when I was kid…. If you worked in the factories and warehouses on the east river water front in Williamsburg/Greenpoint that meant you were either a union worker or a gangster. Now it’s all brunch spots and condos….
