36 years ago this week i walked through the gate at SA and got on the bus to Lackland. It was the start of my life and it changed everything fro me. I am retired now and still serving in another capacity but the leasons learned are still being used and taught. Go Blue stay safe and God bless
I just got out a few months ago. I was stationed at Osan AB, Korea after Tech School. I didn't enjoy my time in the military at all. You either love it or you don't. I do however know the commitment it takes and I honestly appreciate every man and woman that serves. Thank you
Man, this brings back memories. I did my basic at Lackland in the summer of '88. Hot as hell!! We were issued the old MASH green fatigues! That really makes me feel old. God bless all the men and women of our armed forces, no matter what branch.
congrats man! Enjoy your tour man, its an adventure...the excitement not knowing where theyre going to put you and who your gonna meet...its an experience of a lifetime man!
I entered active duty Air Force on 28 Sept 84. That was 28 years ago. That's one of the best things I ever did. I retired 4 years ago! Seeing this video takes me back to those days.
af bmt is actually a lot of fun. to those who are joining or plan to join, i left may 3rd for basic, graduated july 1st, and am currently stationed in florida. i came from nothing and the af is the greatest thing i've ever done.
Best tip from me to you, is stay mentally strong, if you go in with the attitude that you'll do well, you will. Do as your told, and enjoy your time. Thank you for joining the military and making our country proud.
@leebeardchris have fun. just got out of BMT last month. It is mentally challenging, but dont let any of the bs get to u. First week is most intimidating, the weeks afterward get tougher, but the key is to always remember why youre there.Good luck..
Went through AF basic from January 97 through March 97. Looking back on it, it was the best experience of my life. Was stationed at Wright-Patterson in Dayton and unfortunately, was more interested in partying than doing my job. Got booted out in July of 2000 with a general discharge. Not a day goes by that I don't regret that. But I can't go back. Anyway, basic training was awesome for me and I love this video. Good luck future recruits, you'll love Lackland.. LOL! :)
1997 320th- Alcatraz- Dorm B9!!!! It seems like just yesterday that I was making that first march to the Confidence Course! Good luck to all of you on your way to Lackland! You're about to become a part of something bigger than yourselves- The United States Armed Forces! I'm rooting for you all!!!!
I graduated from the 3706 BMTS flight 191 in 1989. For any young person today the Air Force is great move. I served two tours of duty and completed a master's degree in physics while on active duty. I'll never forget that rope obstacle at 3:40 when I grabbed the rope I had so much forward momentum that when I got to the other side I actually rolled! Before I could get up on my feet Sgt. Hardy was in my face yelling to high hell.
im not really afraid to go to basic. i think once i step of that plane ill get that gut wreching feeling. i cant wait tho. this is what ive waited for all my life was to join the air force and follow in my familys footsteps. im sure i will be the top of my flight
it's important to just do what you're told (remember no matter what you'll do it wrong according the the MTI's) and enjoy it. I wish I could go back to Basic training. Warrior week was awesome. Now they have "The Beast" which is an extra week of training in the field. You learn a lot and it's a great experiance.
wow thanks for posting this video....im set to leave for basic training for the USAF in a month from now..wow im excited yet nervous..i didnt know what to expect and i still dont, but this video made it a little more clear to me.thank you
I was there at Lackland in August 1981. I remember those dorms! This video showed mostly the challenge course. We had class time too. And did dorm security guard, everyone took there turn. A drill instructor would come to the door and yell through it, trying to get you to let them in [breaching security]. The main difference I saw in this video was the attire. We had the solid "olive drab" military uniform back then.
@caiterss True serving in the military is serving regardless of what branch you are in. I think you all do a great job protecting this country and God Bless you all.
I feel like it was yesterday that I just got off the bus for Basic..the memories :) Ive been in for almost a year now...Good luck all you new trainees! hehe
i just graduated dec4th that was some perfect and good advice you took the words out of my mouth never volunteer for anything i promise my ti never called me by my name until 5th week every one in my flight always asked me how do i stay under the radar
I am a Staff Sergeant in the AF in have been in 10 years. I have been Active duty the whole time and I love it. You get plenty of travel opportunities and of course school. The Physical Training has picked up of course since 9/11 and we run 3 days a week with our squadrons. What questions do you have in particular that I can answer for you?
@beardownchitown Hahaha yeah its different mindsets and paths to achieve the same goal. Marine Basic is very comprehensive becasue it needs to be, in the AF if you will be in situations similar to our marines they will teach you how to deal in different training past BMT. Like SERE school, and joint force training.
Thanks for the Replies...I am so excited...meeting the recruiter....this is were it all starts....I hope i get stationed overseas ....i really want to see the world...and i believe this is my chance to do it while defending my country....God bless the USA...
this is the first day of zero week for my girlfriend, she arrived at lackland late last night and i keep thinking about it. when i was asked to see her recruiter everyone thought i was the one enlisting, but i am a freshman in college. i have the utmost respect for the services and her, i am sure she will be fine but i can't stop thinking about it, and it's only day one.
@MrKeithraab No, problem I think we need to do more for our troops. I took the ASVAB test and failed it,but I plan to take it again. My heart is for the military ever since I was a child I had always had an interest in the military.
wow! awesome video! gives me a lot of insight about the actual training for the AF. I kind of laughed abit when I saw that guy yawned @ 2:28 lol great bunch of guys and gals. I hope to get in the Air force SOON too! Wish me luck on my ASVAB
well... im here at sheppard afb now, just graduated bmt about a week ago. TO everyone going, congrats on your choice and good luck. Keep your ears open and do what you're told and you will be okay. It's tough at first i won't lie but it gets easier. 331st wolf pack lead the way!! We actually got warrior flight!
i just graduated bmt and also recycle happens by sickness fevers r injures i had a very bad foot injury but i stayed strong everyday i was enjoyed while at beast my tis noticed but i stuck through the pain i wasnt missing christmas
cant believe im saying this but i miss basic lmao went in nov 3, 2009 lookin back, it really showed me what i could achieve.. pushups situps and reporting statements... thats all you need
The rifles you normally carry around in AF Basic have the firing pins taken out. We use functioning rifles during warrior week. (I think warrior week is now two weeks because they want us to be more like the army)
Wish they had a video like this for army basic training at ft benning ga. Im enlisting when i graduate as a 19D cav scout. PS: thanks for bringing in my bradley's ;)
I am right now studying for the asvab test to get into the airforce. I am mostly studying the electronics and mechanics part of the test because I would like to get in the field where i can work on and fix some of the coolest and top aircraft in the world!
the Air Force is some pretty good stuff, I have been in for lil over 3 years and am a Jet Maintainer at charleston AFB, the Air Force is Soo worth doin
Basic was hard.. No doubt.. I went through in 2007 and it was probably the hardest thing I had ever done. Been married for two weeks then I left for that and tech school.. Both took place at Lackland as I am Security Forces. But after about the 2nd week it got tolerable and I still have friends with whom I see and speak. God bless our troops and God bless all of you Airmen and future Airmen! Be proud of your Air Force! Doesnt matter if you're a cop like me, a pilot, a cook.. Be proud!
Basic was a good time, looking back on it. It sucked going through it though. Lol. I'd go back and do it again if I could. Love all the nervous looks on all the recruits faces. haha. Hilarious.
Back in 1993, they made us pay over $6 for those "haircuts" and I had to borrow some cash from my buddy because they hadn't paid us anything yet. Then we had to pay for a second haircut before camp was done. We also paid a lot for dry cleaning service every week. Back in those days, E1s got less than $900 a month.
See! People do actually understand, when I was fifteen I was all completely for the Marines because of my sister, but then now, two years later I have done significant research over the branches, I have come to realize what I fight for. So thank you for your agreement.
This video is what got me motivated before i went into afbmt in 2009 and I'll never forget those amazing memories, not even CBRNE 🤣👏
36 years ago this week i walked through the gate at SA and got on the bus to Lackland. It was the start of my life and it changed everything fro me. I am retired now and still serving in another capacity but the leasons learned are still being used and taught. Go Blue stay safe and God bless
You young men are the BEST!!! My son John just graduated basic a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to all of you from all of us!!! God Bless You!!!
I just got out a few months ago. I was stationed at Osan AB, Korea after Tech School. I didn't enjoy my time in the military at all. You either love it or you don't. I do however know the commitment it takes and I honestly appreciate every man and woman that serves. Thank you

congrats man! Enjoy your tour man, its an adventure...the excitement not knowing where theyre going to put you and who your gonna meet...its an experience of a lifetime man!

@DoctorBawston Bless you. That really needed to be said.
af bmt is actually a lot of fun. to those who are joining or plan to join, i left may 3rd for basic, graduated july 1st, and am currently stationed in florida. i came from nothing and the af is the greatest thing i've ever done.

keep your head up and thank you for your service!
Oh my, that brings back memories. Was there from April 2000 to June 2000. Then on to Keesler for a year. Good times.
Best tip from me to you, is stay mentally strong, if you go in with the attitude that you'll do well, you will.
Do as your told, and enjoy your time.
Thank you for joining the military and making our country proud.
My son has been in San Antonio Basic for 3 weeks and LOVES it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Air Power! I love my country and I am proud that I served her. I am proud of all my brothers and sisters in the Air Force and the other branches.
And we're glad to have had you, air power!

@leebeardchris

@ImOnOne2 You will have memories that you will never forget...God Bless.

im not really afraid to go to basic. i think once i step of that plane ill get that gut wreching feeling. i cant wait tho. this is what ive waited for all my life was to join the air force and follow in my familys footsteps. im sure i will be the top of my flight
Oh God that's bringing back memories on how the TI's at Lackland can make a word as simply as Trainee such an intimidating word.
it's important to just do what you're told (remember no matter what you'll do it wrong according the the MTI's) and enjoy it. I wish I could go back to Basic training. Warrior week was awesome.
