For me it’s the similar to yours but the only difference is that I put Scorpion and Sub-Zeto in F tier with Havik.

I would disagree about Reptile.. a bit. The thing about him being a henchmen villain, at least how I feel, is like what he said himself: His loyalty was forced, not earned. So now seeing him finally breaking free from this toxic relationship with his boss is a very nice thing for the character.
The problem I could see from your point is that he doesn't get to do anything significant as a fake loyal henchmen. He did follow order to execute Shang Tsung's experiment but right before that he already revealed to the viewers and especially the heros he was not happy being in this role
It's like what he says in his introduction in story mode: "You're Shang Tsung's prisoner, I'm his slave."
Havik is supposed to be a true “wildcard” of a character, he has a quiet, smooth and almost calming voice which is supposed to contrast with his spooky appearance, everything about him is meant to equal chaos. He looks evil, sounds good, and acts entirely neutral. You never know what his true intentions are behind any of his actions as he’s never loyal to anyone else’s ideology or morals, his purpose is solely to create chaos.

He embraces chaos and anarchy, disliking order, dictators, governments, rulers, and tyrants. Despite his mischievous nature, he often aligns himself with both heroes and villains to further his own cause, showcasing his unpredictable alliances. Havik takes pleasure in causing mayhem, and his dialogues include backward speech, adding an enigmatic touch to his character. His idle animations involve picking at his face, and even when hit, he expresses pleasure rather than pain. Overall, Havik is a charismatic and unpredictable character who finds joy in disrupting the established order.
I feel like some of these criticisms really don’t take into account the fact that this is a timeline created by Liu Kang. These are all changes that Liu Kang, in-universe, deliberately made to build a more peaceful timeline. Things like stripping Rain of his godhood to make him more humble or remove Tanya’s treacherous nature to instead have her be a loyal guardian of Outworlds’ royal family. The entire premise of MK1 is literally an investigation of “What would a timeline designed by LIU KANG look like?” It’s not trying to recreate past MK games or character arcs, it maintains alot of familiar themes and features sure, but alot of the point is that everything IS wildly different from the original material.
I’m not gunna say that all these changes are particularly good, like Havik being a weird emo bitch, Shao Khan being an easily manipulable brute, and Kitana basically being entirely second fiddle to Mileena’s story, are ‘good’ things, you’re right to dislike these things. Like, it’s fine if you don’t necessarily like how the changes affect some of these characters and their dynamics, but there’s ABSOLUTELY a reason behind a alot of the changes.

Rain could form an alliance with hotaru in the next game to hunt down havik and become an anti hero. I would move Rain a little up just based on the possible stories you could build on his ending.

The thing is with Kung Lao in MK11 specifically is that he’s a completely different character in the story than what he is in intro dialogues and his ending, in MK11’s story he’s a lot like MK1 Kung Lao just with a slight bit more snarkyness, but in the intros and his ending he’s an envious spiteful jealous asshole that is always angry. He’s not even consistent in that very game so I’m glad MK1 finally did him justice
Being a Kung Lao stan is hard, at this point I don't take majority of his dialogues or endings (especially this one) as canon. Its just better for my sake of mind.
Titan Havik definitely seemed like more of a "real" Havik to me so I'm guessing they made his version in the story somewhat lame and toned down so that his titan counterpart will really shine in whatever story dlc we get. At least I hope cause he's a great fucking character lol.
Awesome idea for a video ! I have to say tho I think both reptile and baraka being good guys is part of what made the story Imo….I’ve been a die hard mk fan since the early 2000’s and I’ve always wanted to see those guys have a different role in the story compared to the norm…and not to mention finally being able to play as them in story.

Mileena and Kitana are different ?? She was literally being impulsive and reckless most of the storymode 😭 she ran head on at Ermac and Dark Raiden and got clocked both times and before that she was popped by Li Mei bc she did the same thing and allowed her emotions to get the better of her.
As a Sindel main and loyalist, I really loved her in the story. She is the caring mother, devoted wife, and benevolent ruler we all know and love. While I can never truly hate MK11 Sindel I love that they kept some of those elements in MK1 as her wrath and ruthlessness only come out when she deals with the enemies of the Empire and Outworld. I really wish there was more tension between Mileena and Kitana as I feel when they were first revealed and when we first saw their bios it seemed like there was going to be some conflict between the two. I also didn't like how Kitana took such a backseat because I think both Mileena and Kitana could've easily shared the spotlight.

None of Liu Kang’s fan fiction universe will ever be THE versions of these characters. Like if someone asked me about MK and wanted to know about Kuai Liang I would NEVER bring up when he pretended to be Scorpion. Most of the NRS era stuff I’d probably end up leaving out.
The fact that we're gonna likely have a scene with Jerrod and Kitana and Sindel in Mortal Kombat 2 already makes that upcoming movie's portrayal better than MK1 Kitana 💀

A bit confused with the Mileena criticism? She does have that historical relation with Jared in this era, since shes literally Kitana's twin, not a clone. They had the same amount of time with their father.

@@joshuabetts2484 I don’t think you fully grasp what’s what. People have been waiting THREE DACADES for the Kitana-Jerrod moment which was only ever hinted at in a non-canon ending twenty years ago. In-universe it’s been several eons(said by Liu Kang himself). Jerrod final returns but all of a sudden in this awful fan fiction Earth-420 universe where suddenly Mileena has this story. It’s awful and undeserved no matter which way you slice it.
@@thatoneguy1232 coming back to this since I saw it in my notifs, I'd hardly say people were waiting 3 decades for this. Jerrod, whilst being mentioned throughout MK history, has never had a notable presence until now, save some character endings. People only started caring about him since maybe mk9 from Ermacs ending. Saying its such this big letdown is overblown at best
An honest question here. I didn't get back into MK until MK9. So I guess my take on Raiden is mainly the NRS Raiden and from MK vs DC which feels like the same Raiden. But I don't remember Raiden ever being like MK11 Fujin outside of 95 movie. Can you tell me which games he's like Fujin in? An honest question because I am curious.
Hopefully the Story DLC can the bottom three tiers some room to shine.
I can totally see Titan Havik beinging back our version of Havik. Kitana pushed into replacing Mileena's throne by scheming Nobility. Shao becoming a barbarian king and later Kahn. And Bi Han dying, becoming Noob Saibot, allowing Kuai Liang to replace him as Sub Zero and (adult) Hanzo to become Scorpion.

I actually don’t think Kuai Liang as Scorpion is a bad idea. It’s bad execution, you know the thing MK is known for. He still keeps all his core characteristics.
Bi-Han, I’m in two minds about. His motivation with not wanting to be a stooge anymore & wanting the Lin Kuei to have a more active role is great. Then they throw that away by making him power hungry & making him let his dad die. Basically making him Sektor-lite.
I also disagree with making Reptile a villain. It makes sense that Reptile wouldn’t be a villain especially since in prior timelines he was only a villain because of horrible circumstances.
I think the changes on Rain are fine, the problem is that they do nothing with it despite the fact that he actually has the potential to have a really good arc. Even his ending has a lot if places to take his character.
It’s a bad idea.

Havik is literally F tier yet one of the most fun characters to play. Same with Rain, Kitana, Mileena and General Shao. Gameplay is not a significance on this tier list.

This is shockingly accurate to how I feel, but I definitly would have put Tanya in F, because not only did they destroy who Tanya is, they did absoloutly nothing with what they turned her into.

I hate that they sidelined the best characters for the second half of the story.
mk1 is the first mk game ive ever explored, and i only know the lore of this game and no other so i dont have the attachments that longtime fans have. here are my comments on your list:
8:40 if i may say so, i feel like you missed the point of what havik is supposed to be. he isnt really expanded upon in the main story, you need to dig around with his bio and piece things together with intro dialogue but i see him as FAR from pure evil. he is said to be the victim of an oppressive society that forces him and others like him to be in the lowest tier of a caste system. he has been brutalized and oppressed his whole life, and its not that hes evil per se. he simply has radicalized in the wrong direction. his goal is to liberate his people and he just sees spreading chaos as the way to do that. he is committing crimes and whatnot yes, but in his mind the ends justify the means. he genuinely believes in his cause and hopes that he can bring his people the justice and liberation they deserve
22:30 i feel like rain was underutilized. he gets like 8 lines in the whole story. but ultimately i think the center of his whole character is the themes of pride and arrogance, and how those things can lead to your downfall. rains whole thing is that he allowed his desire to keep rising in his abilities blindside him into conspiring against a woman who was like a second mother to him. while i think the whole entire last third of the story overall was poorly done, i think its also worth noting how rain was extremely not present after titan shang tsung revealed himself. i read it as rain dipping after having a "this is not what i signed up for" moment, after realizing the scope of this conspiracy reached farther than he could have ever imagined. he later flooded seido because havik promised him he could stay in orderrealm, evading arrest in outworld, if he flooded the capital for him. be already started to feel inklings of remorse for his involvement in the conspiracy but it REALLY hit him after he killed thousands of seidan citizens. it hit him how his hubris had changed him into someone who he didnt even recognize anymore so he turned himself in, willing to recieved any punishment mileena had for him. i think they are setting him up for a redemption arc where he could play a pivitol role as a hero
31:40 honestly i wouldnt hold my breath for tanya staying loyal. i kinda scratch my head at how rain could have possibly been in on the conspiracy while tanya wasnt. not to mention, rain says in one of his intros that there are conspirators who havent been unmasked yet. if i was a betting woman, i would bet tanya will turn out to be one of them. and then they will do a whole "i have evil intentions but my genuine love for mileena causes me to be conflicted" thing
I agree with you on Rain. Rain has always been criminally under explored despite having one of the more interesting traits in these games.
@@Zaire_39 i dont necessarily find rain relatable per se but i think what makes him interesting is that even though he and his abilities are based in fantasy, his flaws feel VERY human and based in reality. throwing away who you are because of pride is such a fascinating trope i hope they do more with it going forward
Even with Li mei Being onaga's concubine it comes from her alt bio in which bo rai cho fails to save her before her soul was put in one of the onaga's undead army's solider's body by the deadly Alliance. After she was brought back, her soul was already corrupted suddenly simping for onaga.
It's weird to me how former jobbers like Baraka and Reptile were given time to shine in this game and a (usually) more major character like Kitana was reduced to being a jobber. It's like NRS doesn't know how to make every character important to the story. I assume it's because someone just has to lose for the story to progress but it's also stupid because why not make more than half the fights in the story against NPCs so power scaling is more consistent? Kitana was done so dirty this game.
I hated Raiden in this game. He is just a dude that was given an amulet for electric powers.
He really is just some dude and I’m glad you said it. He starts out as some random farmer with a weird name for a Chinese man. Gets beat up by his buddy. Then he doesn’t want to leave the village. Madam Bo says leave the village. Then he’s ok with leaving the village. Plot line done. He randomly beats up everyone even tho he couldn’t beat Lao without the hat at first then wins that his awful “tournament” where half of it is offscreen. Then he vanishes for several chapters and never becomes relevant again
17:05 mk9 ending...also in mk9 kitana was liu kangs main love interest so I wouldnt say she got no story development. Im not really a mileena fan myself. I'm not going to say characters that have been in almost all stories have no plot like kitana though. Rain, Shao, Kitana, and mileean are the way they are because of Liu kang. His attempt to balance out characters makes them useless...

They nerfed and gutted my fave character, Shao Kahn. They continue to just throw the best villain in fighting games into the dirt and ruin the coolest character imo. Very disappointing

From the Arcade Endings, it looks like he's going down more of a Skeletor route rather than the Thanos he used to be in MK9, which is my favorite version of him.

Mileena was always meant to be the better sister. She is the stronger one and the one with the better story line. Kitana always has the same story. Mileena is the one that is always changing and evolving. MK11 did her dirty by not including her so the creators decided to give her, her flowers this game. I’m my honest opinion she’s the better empress.

Dude, Mileena was never playable in story mode and never won a single canonical fight in the previous three games yet she still broke out in popularity. She deserves all the flowers she gets.
