    I had a GSP as part of my family back in the mid 90s… he was the best brother I’ve ever had.. his name was Skeeter.. I got him when he was six months old, and he was already trained.. it was the best dog that I’ve ever had the honor to be with. He knew how to do everything and he did nothing wrong ever not one time…. I miss him so much.. and all of my friends. Still talk about him 25 years later… he is still remembered as the great dog that he was all 12 years are special to me

They are so well behaved and you see some pretty places also. The dogs are funny often and the family so nice. Lab is older dog and pointer like yours started as a puppy and is now grown. Get ready for the ride of your life. GSP’s are very affectionate and thrive on your weakness. Give an inch and the will take a yard! If you allow them on the bed they will eventually take the whole bed. In my experience having had 3 males and 3 females the boys are far more obedient while the girls far more strong willed (very independent & calculating). If you have a long hallway take the ball and roll it down the hall and have treats ready for when he brings it back he will be retrieving in 1/2 an hour. And don’t teach them how to talk or they will literally be barking orders at you until they get their way! Good luck! Beautiful markings by the way kind of looks like my Rosie l love the solid coats on the back and brindle down below.

    • @jenniferrebecca2813
      @jenniferrebecca2813  Před 2 lety

      I must confess he’s allowed in the bed sometimes and he literally tries to sleep lying on top of me 😂 they’re so intelligent but I agree with the male/female stereotype - I look after Otis’ sister sometimes and she runs off hunting for hours and won’t come back until she’s ready!! Hopefully I’ve babied Otis too much to be like that 😂 thanks for watching!

    He's so little and so cute. For a water bowl get the biggest heaviest flat bottom bowl, ceramic with smooth sides it won't get tipped over and spill and he won't be able to grab the side.( I've had both baby dogs and cats whose hobby was turn over the water dish). You should take him to your bed so the three of you will learn to sleep together. We never owned a crate but always had dogs they never chewed up the furniture etc if you are home or with them. They do that when unhappy and alone. We would close them in the kitchen if we were out ( with toys a good bed chew sticks food and water

    How did you decide on getting a GSP? Much harder to train than a lab. Very vocal dogs who need lots of exercise and affection. My Marley would do zoomies on the bed and than under the covers. They are born hunters! You don’t train them to hunt but rather train them to control the hunt. They will grow to about 50 ish pounds with ZERO fat. Unbelievably strong for their size. They will destroy everything if they don’t get their exercise and affection! Marley chewed a hole thru a solid pine door! They do it all! Snuggle in the bed to hunting Elk to retrieving birds to baby sitting children. They are the ultimate dog!!!

    • @jenniferrebecca2813
      @jenniferrebecca2813  Před 2 lety +1

      Hahaha Marley is iconic. My auntie has always had GSPs so I know how mischievous they can be! Touch wood, so far Otis hasn’t done anything bad - He’s eaten a lot of shoes but that’s the worst of it 😂
      I’ve always had little dogs so it’s definitely an eye opener, I’d actually say he’s been easy to train, but I am used to my jackahuahua who doesn’t give a single damn what I say. I’ve only had Otis 4 months but I wouldn’t change him for the world.

      @@jenniferrebecca2813 some call GSPs hard headed. Their brain runs full tilt. So every bee, every bird, every squirrel doesn’t go unnoticed. It’s hard sometimes to get your student to focus. And they need attention. If they don’t get it they remind you once. Reminding you twice is when the furniture gets eaten. Marley got a pillow, took it outside and ripped it open. Looked like it snowed until I realized it was goose feathers in the yard.
