And the Emmy for best use of alignment sticks in demonstrating a golf swing visual goes to: Trevor Salzman in how the pelvis works in the golf swing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Seriously… that is the best visual I’ve ever seen. I’m a huge fan of the GEARS visualizations, but this made the concept so much easier to understand… The statement that the right hip can move back without the left hip moving forward in the backswing? 🤯 Where has this concept been missing in my brain in 33 years of playing?! I’m sure it’s been implied in lessons I’ve had, but Trevor explicitly saying it and explicitly demonstrating it with the alignment rods and his body… holy cannoli, the light bulb finally turned on 💡
Lol love that Terry! Agreed---I really liked this one as well and hopes it helps some people!
This one we did with Mike is similar you may enjoy:

I agree! I was rotating my left hip forward, not the right hip back. I am definitely able to get the arms through much more easily. Every day at lunch, i hit some plastic balls. I was able to get five of six, then four of six to land in a one foot radius. I can’t wait to get to the course!
They're not the same. TS says that the door hinge moves back from the right hip to the left hip at the point where the hips are last parallel to the target line. Mike says the hinge remains at the right hip all the way through the forward swing. Which one does Eric prefer?@@CogornoGolf
Exactly!!! ❤
I have a problem with understanding some teachers explanation so I use different golf tubers for different parts of the swing but this guy got me on the first try. Great job young man
Love that Eric partners with other pros. Shows humility and adds value to the channel. Love it. Best explanation of how to start the downswing with your lower body out there. Great stuff Trevor and Eric !
Appreciate it!
I've golfed since I was a kid and was always had a 20-30 handicap. Two years ago, I decided to finally practice golf and become a real student of the game... In the last two years, I've spent a lot of time at the range, improved many aspects of my swing, and finally broke 80. However, early extension was the one thing I felt I could not make any progress on. But after watching this video, I finally had that lightbulb moment and realized, "Ohhhh, THAT'S how the hips are supposed to rotate!" With this video in mind, I went to the range today to focus only on my hip rotation. I started without a club, then filmed myself hitting balls at 10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, 90%, and 100%. I went back and watched the videos and could not believe it... FINALLY my early extension is gone. Thanks Eric and Trevor! I'm praying this still works for me tomorrow :)
Loveeeeee to hear that! Awesome message Chase--really glad it helped and appreciate you sending this message!!
Lightbulb moments galore!!!! My brain damn near Exploded!!!!
The mop haired kid really has a unique way of explaining the golf swing piece by piece!!! He was a good find Eric!
Thank you :) Glad to hear that!!
Ty Eric for being on JT and Trevor to your channel. Both are phenomenal teachers like yourself but rather than learning from just one, I find taking small nuggets from each of your swings has increased my knowledge 10 fold and allowed me to get more comfortable with my swing. Especially over the last week just from joining your website! You guys are the best!
👊Love it my friend! So great to have you on the team!!
Just went out to backyard to try. Helped me to think about it as "right hip back, right hip stays back, clear the left side". Was sooo much easier to stay down or not early extend, consistent low point contact too, which i've had a problem with. Looking forward to working on this a lot more... Thanks guys!!!
So glad this one helped my friend! Our pleasure!
Coupled with the Malaska video, this is the best collaboration you've done. Brilliant!
Appreciate it! Yes very similar concepts and visual with Mike M...good stuff!
Love this! Have struggled trying to stay over the ball for years but this thinking sounds like a winner. Can’t wait to work on this!
Hope it helps, Hunter!👊
This concept is awesome. I was over rotating to right big time. Thanks 👍
Thanks! Hope this one helps!
This video is So on point!!!!! This is going to such a Great drill for me. Thank you Eric and Trevor!!!!!!!
Thank you! You got it!!
This was amazing to see, I'm stoked to practice this!
Hope it serves you well
This is not a light bulb moment. This is the "Caveman discovers fire" moment. The visual of showing how the center automatically moves forward when moving correctly is just...wow. Amazing content!
Lol love it :)
Excellent! I've never seen the hip turn explained this way and it makes so much more sense to how the body should work through the shot. I've been concentrating on hip and torso rotation but, as mentioned in the video, wrongly not keeping the hips back. I'm going to work on this today! Thank you!
Thanks Cory! Hope this one serves you well!
This is great. How to move the low point forward whilst swinging is something I haven’t seen before but makes complete sense. Also how to easily move the pelvis so a double piece of gold. Thanks guys. ⛳️
100% Mark! You got it!
GREAT LESSON!
Thank you!
Yes, an amazing visual and explanation.
Thank you!
Unlocked the magic sauce in my mind you guys are awesome!
Love it Gabriel! Thanks for your support!
This is gold, Jerry, gold!
Thanks Bania!
Trevor is the man!!!
And that is similar to the Wrench Drill that Rob Cheney talks about on his channel. Once I grasped that concept WOW what a difference makes. It puts you into the proper side bend and get consistent low point. I feel like I'm just rotating around my lead leg and so many issues go away.
Love it!!
I can not right bend and now I practise turn through slowly to learn my down swing properly. Thank you very much🙏🙏
Hope this helps ya!
Muy buen video y explicación de Trevor y gran trabajo el tuyo Eric. Saludos desde Argentina
Thanks for your support, Juan!👊
Great vid 👏👏
Thanks!
yup light bulb moment!!! thx so much!
:)
Good stuff Eric
Thanks!!
Eric, I think to help fell the right back, you can move the right back ( even to shoe laces of left foot; David Leadbetter ). When you make the hip turn, it is already in position. The new fell for me is pushing the left hip back which moves left knee back to even to the back right knee. I have had the thought to bring my right knee even with the knee.
Just a thought,
David
Yep that works!
Great to see Trevor supporting European golf with his choice of outfit!
:)
Awesome!
Thanks!
holy shit! thank you sir!!
Our pleasure!👊
Hey Eric,
great video!
Explained perfectly and now excited to test it!
I have „problems“ with my swing speed (i7 about 82 mph, Driver about 95 mph) and a little frustraded because I think I’ve now nearly tried everything to increase it…and nothing helps…
I would love to see a video about swing speed - maybe with Trevor…?!
Thanks Michael! Perhaps a video for the future....if you're tried a lot and most hasn't worked Im not sure a general speed video will help.
I would encourage you to find a good coach to work this out with. If we could SEE your swing on video it would be EASY to say WHY your speed is low and HOW to fix.
Find good coach or send swings in to www.cogornogolf.com and we can find real solutions
Great video!!!! Would there be any difference in concept between irons and driver??????
Thank you! For this particular piece of the swing its the same concept with all clubs.
For driver vs irons in general a few key differences we go over here:
czcams.com/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/video.html&pp=ygUbRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIERyaXZlciB2cyBpcm9u
czcams.com/video/vj3py9jZ6q8/video.html&pp=ygUbRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIERyaXZlciB2cyBpcm9u
Pow! Mind blowing! Don't just turn the hips in unison?
So.......move the trail hip back without moving the lead hip towards the target line? Then, move the lead hip back without moving the trail hip towards the target line? As I practice this move I see that the arms and the club will simply drop without any conscious effort to move them.
Yes!!
.@@CogornoGolf Tried this today on the range. Focusing only on the movement of hips as demonstrated. So far, I'm getting really good results. Did have issues with pulling and strong draw. But when I swing more out I get really good results.
Eric love the video and I think it will help me but I have a question. So with what Trevor is explaining where is the weight shift or lead hip (hip bump) in front of lead foot talked about in some of your other videos. Or am I just not understanding it?Thanks
Hey!
Im not sure I totally understand the question?
We like to see the lead KNEE get in front of the ankle but not the left hip. The left hip should rotate around and the BELT buckle should be the part that gets over the ankle (not the hip)
Some of these may help explain:

The "Co" in Collar & Co. stands for COgorno & COol .........at the same time.
Great sponsor Eric I am getting some.
Lol love it!
this man is genius
He's fun to work with :)
Eric, great video! I thought the initial demonstration with the alignment rod was enlightening, but when you talk about the belt buckle moving forward when the right hip goes back, you lost me. At 16:16 in the video, if I stare at the belt buckle, it clearly moves back as the body rotates. Since the alignment rod center represents the center of the body, is it more that the center of the body moves forward when the right hip rotates back? Regardless, right hip back, lead hip back and right hip through definitely works for me, thanks!!
Hey Eric, I am confused as well about the transition. In alot of your videos you and JT show shifting pressure towards lead knee(, towards quadrant 1 in that one drill) which kinda shifts the hips forward. I don't see that with this, are they typically two different types of swings?
Hey John!
I would just say they are different FEELs to accomplish different things.
The JT to quadrant one is to help exaggerate getting the pressure down and forward and keeping the arms IN. Really good for those who swing too over the top, steep, weight back, etc
Would this be similar to concentrating on keeping the right shoulder back?
Hey Paul! I would likely look at that at something separate from this
Hi Eric! Should pressure be maintained on the balls of the feet through out the entire hip sequence?
Good question---nope. Want to work to trail heel and lead toes in backswing....then back to middle in transition....then toward lead heel and trail toes in follow through
More on the pressure in feet throughout downswing details here:
czcams.com/video/S-sWOuNt_O8/video.html&pp=ygUWRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vICBmb290d29yaw%3D%3D
czcams.com/video/pdRisKYTAjc/video.html&pp=ygUnRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHdlaWdodCBpbiBmZWV0IHRlbGxpbmcgeW91
Those two should go through the details well!
Will this concept work with the Stack and Tilt type swing?
Yup! Same concepts ....keeping pelvis very centered here
What would be cool is go grab someone from the range behind you and teach them this after watching a few shots of their current movement.
Agreed!
Great explanation of the hip movement.
Thanks Steve!
Was wondering if someone could write these steps in order on this post.
:)
OUT-STAN-DING
Thank you!
Didn't Jack Nicklaus say that his only thought was getting his right hip out of the way then when he swung the club that took care of everything else. He said he never thought about rotating his hips on the downswing.. that's what Malaska says.
Rt hip back in backswing DEF a big part! But of course FEELS and REALs are different. He certainly rotated on downswing as well :)
Great lesson! But why didn't TS go all the way to the finish when demonstrating movements of the left and right hip with the stick on the ground. I feel that it would complete the puzzle. Could you Eric do it for us please?
Thanks! Maybe more in future video!
So one needs to squat a little at the top of the backswing?
Hey there!
We talk through the "squat move" in transition in more detail here...think you'll enjoy these!
czcams.com/video/X7ZUpbCbusA/video.htmlfeature=shared
czcams.com/video/6p85VkiCqmQ/video.htmlfeature=shared
Can you please tell me the consequence of early extension?
Hey Conner,
Early extension makes you lose your body's inclination to the ground first and foremost...we talk through the details of why that's so important in this video!
czcams.com/video/ngke5xPA1NE/video.htmlfeature=shared
Let us know if you have any questions after watching👍
@@CogornoGolf yea how much is your online training im about to off myself with my 9-iron
Lol $69/month
Eric-This drill appears to differ in weight shift from S@T. Not so much left here. Am I missing something-Russ
Same concepts ....keeping pelvis very centered here
this move pushes your center of mass and the low point of your swing forward to the lead side. This wouldn't work for Drivers right since you need the bottom of the swing to stay behind the ball? What's the change in this move for drivers?
Driver changes all about the setup...driver vs iron differences in detail here:
czcams.com/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/video.html&pp=ygUaRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGRyaXZlciB2cyBpcm8%3D
czcams.com/video/vj3py9jZ6q8/video.html&pp=ygUaRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGRyaXZlciB2cyBpcm8%3D
Keep in mind with driver the ball is more forward in stance, you are more tilted away from target at setup (side bend) AND you have more side bend and extension through the ball (head back).......so......with the low point more forward with this move.....all of those would offset that with driver.
5:07 - 5:30 ........ WOW
:)
So the pelvis goes toward the target as the arms go back? Maybe it'll help me get back to the ball , ill try anything been fighting a slice all my life
Yes slightly---heres a good one we go over the details of that that should help ya:
czcams.com/video/pPlAIUbGTOY/video.html&pp=ygUbRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGhpcHMgYmFja3N3aW5n

Hi, can not rotate my right hip through. What exercises do I need to get more flexible for the right hip
I think a lot of us have restrictions and flexibility. Those of us that cannot move her right hip through. What’s the fix
OK may be a key when you say the words hit against you show your right knee flexed, hoping the hips go through . But if you seconds after your showing right leg straight, which is it
Hey!
If you TRULY have a flexibility/restriction I would go see a trainer/physical therapist to help find root cause and correct.
As for golf swing drill to help with right hip rotation I would look at these:
czcams.com/video/FbA--1xWGsc/video.html&pp=ygUgRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHJpZ2h0IGhpcCByb3RhdGlvbiA%3D
czcams.com/video/dVAJNHVrvrM/video.html
I think mike Malaska was making a similar point
He did...He talks about what Jack did
100% very similar to what we did with Mike!
czcams.com/video/dF55XUErEHc/video.html&pp=ygUeRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIG1pa2UgbWFsYXNrYSBoaXBz
I’m confused how the left and right hip can move independently of each other.
Hey David! They don't...at which point in the swing/video are you looking at?
@@CogornoGolf the part about the lead hip turning while staying back with the trail then firing the trail. I think I get the feel of what you’re both saying.
4th time watching this was the charm! Starting to make a whole lot more sense now.
Is it that easy? Right hip, left hip, and turn? It feels easy. Does this create a simple one piece take away and get you back to the ball without needing any manipulation?
Golfs funny right......its incredibly simple yet endlessly complicated at the same time :)
Include weight shift information for us unknowing ones.
Hey Simmo!
If you search my name and "weight shift" here on CZcams, you'll find a bunch of good ones to check out!
Here's one you may enjoy:

Not sure about this one. During his demonstrations, his right leg is angled very much toward the target and he has most of his weight on his left foot. Don't see many top pros with that move. Reminds me of the old stack and tilt.
All good!
I personally believe we are seeing the return of the stack and tilt with a tad of the reverse C throw in. I believe it’s all to load the weight early on to the left large AMG golf tips has a “pressure plate video” that shows the pros load the left side early, it’s the tilt!
Left large = left side. Lol
Cmon....easy move...yet 17 minutes to explain?
Lol how about it! Golf is funny.....its incredibly simple yet endlessly complicated at the same time.
I hear ya--sometimes I like to keep them shorter but gosh we want to make sure everything is explained thoroughly so no one is confused.
All the best
You said municipal was your favorite. Which is it.
I love both! Municipal hats and sweats I LOVE! Collars and Co are the first shirt I've ever tried with the collar that's more firm and not floppy.....I've been fighting that for like 20 years lol.
So I can like both at same time, right? I hope so bc I do!
