  • DuoKaleidoscope (Katja and Reiko) is playing the flute duo by Georg Philipp Telemann (1681 - 1767) in d minor , No.4 from his “6 Canonic Sonatas in Duo" - TWV 40: 118 - 123 (pub. 1738).
The movements are “Vivace ma moderato - Piacevole non Largo - Presto”.
For this recording Katja is playing a baroque flute (traverso) copy of Godfridus Adrianus Rotthenburgh (1709 - 1790) made by Austrian baroque flute maker Rudolf Tutz (sr).
The Rottenburgh family was one of the most important makers of European wind instruments in the 18th century, active in Flanders.
Reiko is playing a copy of Buffardin Le Fils (original dated ca. 1720-30) made by Italian flute maker Giovanni Tardino.
Pierre Gabriel Buffardin was the most famous and prominent flutist in the first half of the 18th century. He was the teacher of Johann Joachim Quantz and was the principal flutist at the court of the Elector of Saxony in Dresden.
We can not determine whether the original flute was made by Buffardin's " hands" or was made by somebody else in the design of Buffardin.
But this flute brings certainly the style and characters of the music in his era.
