sure r9 absolutely demolished in '02, but it would have been harder without people like rivaldo (arguably better over the whole tournament thant r9), ronaldhino, r. carlos, cafu, lucio and kaka on the field.
in '06 none of the brazil players were at their peak anymore, except ronaldhino and kaka maybe. they played subpar in comparision to their standard, but got to the quarters without much effort, because they had a super stacked team.
