  • Meet my new puppy and find out about how my first week went with her. As you can probably tell by my voice and face I was exhausted after the week with her. It was very challenging at times but also enjoyable. I have a lot to learn and trying to research as much as I can so looking forward to seeing how the next few weeks go.

    I love how much physical contact you have with your puppy. Maybe you are unaware of how much you touch her, but it must be very reassuring to her, and building a fantastic bond with her. Loved hearing how you are coping. I have learnt a lot and am looking forward to being a vizsla owner when I move back to North Wales. She is a stunning dog X

    She looks wonderful. We're a few weeks ahead of you with our Viszla, Pretzel, now 19 weeks. We found she wants to be with us all the time, but we're having success with leaving her alone by building it up gradually. Starting with when she is napping (on the sofa) we left her for 5 mins/!0 mins/15 mins etc each day and monitered her with an iPad app. Then we tried leaving her with a stuffed Kong to keep her busy and did the same thing. A few weeks on and we can safely leave her for an hour or so without her getting upset, although we always do it after her walk. Good luck!

      Nice name! Thanks for the tips, she is getting better and barks a lot less now when left alone for a short time. I use a kong toy too where the treat is in the middle and hard to get which keeps her distracted for a while.

      @@velcrovizsla_ for me the kong does not work perfectly well. Sometimes when I am tired of her misbehaving and need to clean or work little bit, I give her Kong, unfortunately after 30 minutes when its empty she gets upset again. I see her sniffing all around because of the smell, but the kong is empty and I think it is little bit annoying for her... :(
      A veal hoof works better for us, beacuse it gives her attention for 1,5 hour :) After that she is totally relaxed and I can easily take it away without upsetting her etc.

    I have my First Viszla (at least I think she is a Viszla) that the law enforcement agency my daughter works for rescued from the street. She is documented as having sat beside a stop sign for at least 6 hours waiting for her family to come get her. We think she is 9-10 months old as going through her first heat cycle. Super sweet but totally untrained I have other animals (Yorkies & horses) which she gets along great with. We are currently working with separation anxiety which we totally understand. But even having been obviously abused (scars under her chin & what looks like some broken ribs) she loves people. Megan (our Viszla) recognized her name within a few days. These appear to be VERY smart, people friendly dogs. You appear to be doing everything right and should end up with a GREAT lifetime partner. I look forward to following your journey.

      Oh, Megan just escaped out the front door. My daughter is going to the barn and that would have been ok for her to go also. Except my daughter also had to make a grocery stop. It is too hot for her to stay in the car, so she had to stay home. GREAT thing is that she has only ridden in the car a few times and only a few with us to go tote barn where she gets to if free. She jumped into the car on her own. I cannot say how impressed I am with this breed!

    A 6-month-old vizsla dog came to my house, it is very wild and does not understand limits, it bites you for any reason. He is like that because they had him alone in a field. I think he was taken from his mom when he was just a baby for cuteness and then left lying around, so he grew up very uneducated and wild. It is a machine that never tires. He always wants to play and if you don't he attacks you, if you do he attacks you, if you ignore him he attacks you, anyway; whatever you do is out of control. And positive training doesn't seem to work, He only learned in "sit down" because I give him food and he lasts for a while like that. It is not like any dog that I had before, I had and have several dogs, breed dogs I have 2 Argentinean dogo and they were always so calm and polite, more so now that they are old, the male dogo he hates the other dog and wants to bite him.
    And although I have had him for less than a month, I am very fond of him, so I hope his attitude improves, my family and I are going to be very patient and continue with positive training. Although sometimes we have to tie the dog until it calms down. I know that the dog is not to blame for the bad education he received from his previous family, that they left him just because he grew up and then they kicked him out

    We are about 6 weeks into being vizsla owners. Fiadh is now 18 weeks old. How did u find your puppy around then? We are loving having her. We still have issues with nipping but she calms a little with her chewable. She kis getting better but small steps. The counter cannot have a thing on it or its eaten immediately 😟 she pointed twice on her walk this morning which I couldn't believe, proud dad moment 🤣 are u on the dublin vizsla groups?

    • @velcrovizsla_
      @velcrovizsla_  Před rokem

      Ah great 👍 ours was almost 16 weeks when we got her! She was still very much a baby then and over twice her size now (11 months). Maya has a very sensitive stomach and in gastrointestinal food so unfortunately for her she has not eaten a lot of foods yet 😅. I was living in Meath but back in Dublin now so will look to get active in those groups in the coming months! Best of luck with the pup 🐶

    Can you recommend a breeder? We are looking at getting a Vizsla also.

    • @velcrovizsla_
      @velcrovizsla_  Před rokem

      I found mine from a once off breeder in Northern Ireland. When I contacted the IKC they told me that there are actually no breeders registered with them at the time. I was also advised to be cautious when looking for a vizsla in the Republic as there are some that are not to be trusted. I suggest joining Facebook groups and asking around and contacting the ikc in case anything has changed and take your time to make sure you find a trusted breeder!

    Your Expectations are off. Vizslas are very smart, and adaptable, but they want to be with you period! They are more human then animal. Ours slept with us. Kids beds of course. If you exercise them, they wont chew. They usually don’t have accidents. Pay attention to your puppy!
