    My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
    From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
    The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
    I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
    I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
    There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!
    Be Happy, Be Creative, Be Yourself and BE POSITIVE!

    Instead of the delta 2 max I would go with the delta pro. Why? Charging. The delta pro can charge using a level 2 ev charging station. It has a level 2 charge plug built in. Imagine van life with the delta pro, the wave, and eco flow glacier fridge freezer. Goodbye complicated electrical builds, so long propane and goodbye diesel heaters. Ecoflow has completely revolutionized van life.

  • @BorealisNights
    @BorealisNights Před rokem +2

    Hi Matthew... sometimes you just need someone to "rephrase" something, so it makes sense.
    I'll try and be succinct here... Imagine you cut the eco flow AC in half... the "front half", is air volume neutral.
    that is to say, it draws air in, and blows the same amount out... but, your back half, with just the one vent, sucks air out of your van, and blows it OUTSIDE, so... as your van is not 'airtight', it is sucking hot outside air, into your van, in an amount equal to the vented air leaving, so even though your venting hot air, your sucking that much hot air back in.
    So yes, you will be surprised how much more efficient, and how much colder, faster, it will work.
    hope that helps a little.. lol..

    So I’ve been using the unit for a few weeks. I’ve noticed when I set it to drain it works ok. When I turn the unit off it disables the external drain. When I forget to manually turn on the external drain function I get a notification that the unit is overflowing and to turn on the drain.
    I have a squaredrop camper. It’s approximately 6x7. This unit takes a very long time on max to cool it down.
    I would say I’m conclusion that if your going to invest in a cooling system then get a mini split. This is a great unit. I just don’t feel like it’s a big plus living in Florida.
    Right now I’m traveling up north and it struggles to cool my 6x7’ space. But it’s a great concept.

      Don’t understand the basics of hvac to know to work within it’s constraints and or with its limitations an do what your able to help it’s capabilities.
      There pretty niche ac units. But for what they do is pretty decent if worked within the limits and do anything you can to aid to it’s capabilities

    Oh, one more thing... the water drain issue, in a really humid environment, you'd get too much water... an air conditioner is basically a dehumidifier... but, in our Alberta dryness, most times that's not an issue... so I would set that non drain setting to "ON", as that simply blows the hot, exiting air to flow over the water in the bottom, and evaporate it out with the hot exhaust.
    NOT setting that option, may cause your unit to collect too much water in the base, and that will come out as water spraying out with the cool and/or hot air.
    Hoping this helps too.. lol.🥵

    I think the easiest way to explain why you need to have the rear air intake vented to the outdoors is this. By not doing that, you're actually creating a vacuum inside your van when this runs, as you're taking inside air and pumping it out as you have this set up. As you do that, outdoor hot/cold air will seep in through the path of least resistance from the outdoors and INTO your van again, making your setup much less efficient than it otherwise would be if you had both hoses. If you put the hose on it with an outside intake, you eliminate that outside air to inside creep, which is substantial, and basically you create 2 loops. One internal recirculating loop that takes air from inside and heats or cools it/puts it back into your living space, and an external loop that takes outside air and through the process, chills or heats the refrigerant to then run to your inside loop and do the inside conditioning process. As an example, I have currently, a 9kbtu AC unit in a 6x12 trailer that I camp in, and because it's one of those 1 hose units, it runs CONSTANTLY above about 75ºF, and it actually won't work much at all, even in that tiny 72sf space when it's rated for 2x that, if the temps creep above 85 or so because of that outside air being sucked into the interior space. So much outside air gets in that it basically just runs and blows cold air out, but the only cooling effect is if you sit directly in front of the vent. The inside of the trailer is otherwise only maybe 10ºF cooler than outside. It's not a good solution. I'm looking to actually buy this unit sans battery, and run it with a Delta Pro in that trailer pronto once I get the funds together and really change how the HVAC works, plus of course, add a pretty decent sized off grid battery/inverter to my setup.

    Man, Zero Breeze Mark II is the ultimate lightweight champ compared to EcoFlow Wave 2! It's so easy to carry and move around, making it an absolute game-changer for outdoor adventures and travel. And let me tell you, even though its cooling power may not be on par with Wave 2, it still does the job like a boss! It's perfect for those smaller spaces or when you need a quick cooling fix. Zero Breeze Mark II is the real deal, folks!

    • @rhondawilks7275
      @rhondawilks7275 Před 6 měsíci

      It doesn’t heat & the EcoFlow Wave 2 has many other applications… from what I’ve seen on the Zero Breeze Mark II it is limited in how much space it can cool & is often used as a personal cooler by pointing the duct tubing directly at the space/person needing cooling & also using curtains to block areas off so the cool is confined to a smaller space

    • @AquaTech225
      @AquaTech225 Před 6 měsíci

      100%. I have the mark 2 right now. Looking into picking up the wave 2 also.
      But spot on with the zero breeze. Anyone says either is crap. Don’t even understand the very basics of hvac.
      An don’t understand its limitations. A compares it to a central air or a bigger roll around portable plug in unit.
      If you know the limitations an it’s capabilities. A work within an around them constraints. An also do what you can other than just plugging it in.
      To help capitalize on its ability. They work great. I’ve used the zero breeze mk2 a number of times later in the Louisiana summer.
      And draping moving blankets over a tent. Closing off the netting between the fly and what not.
      Definitely got the inside of the tent good and cool. An that is what 2,300btu cooling bs the wave a good bit more.
      Having tried insulating the tent from the outside also. Making sure to be in a shaded area also is one of them things to do. To help capitalize on the unit an help with its constraints as best I was able to. For it to operate best it was able to.
      So I know the wave 2 would be able to do it even that much better. But if one half the size can do it. They definitely work.

    • @AquaTech225
      @AquaTech225 Před 6 měsíci

      @@rhondawilks7275not everyone lives where it’s cold or cool. You have to work within its constraints.
      Same thing with a homes central air. If your square footage calls for a 4ton. You wouldn’t install a 2 ton. It would turn out to be useless shit.
      Or you wouldn’t get a 4ton without insulation of the home.
      Same with these. They fit a unique niche market. That nothing else can.
      There’s evap/swamp coolers. May be good for someone in a cooler dry area.
      Someone in a hot humid area it isn’t gonna work worth a squat a just add humidity to an already saturated air.
      An yould just burn through a ton of ice for nothing.
      Than you can get a roll around portable unit and sure it will work. Put if your power storage is limited. You’ll burn through it hella fast pulling so much juice. An if it’s a game of strictly solar.
      If the sun is t around as much as needed to try an get some of that spent juice back. Your screwed.
      But if you make sure the area your in is insulated. Or if it’s a tent you can insulate it better.
      Pick shaded spots.
      Or a trailer pick shaded areas if possible but maybe can still have panels put out in the sun.
      Make sure to have led lighting. Or watch how much you have going on from cooking ect adding way more heat an humidity for that things small coils to try and remove ect ect.
      But do your part and helping it run as efficiently as it can. However you can.
      An after your temp gets closer to where you want it to be. An maybe a fan also to help move around the cooler air.
      The lower least at night you’ll get to be able to run it. An a lot less power you’ll be drawing off your supply.
      That 2,300btu unit did great for me in the Louisiana heat and humidity. The amount of water that lil sucker was pulling out the air was crazy.
      An only 230-250ish watts max. That’s very light weight wattage for something pumping a refrigerant. Actually removing moisture. Not going through tons of ice. Not killing the power consumption.
      These things work great. But for it to do its best. It’s not the matter of just plugging it in always. It’ll get you right. If you get it right. An aid it in whatever ways to bring out it’s capabilities better.
      People either don’t understand hvac or just cooling in general. Expect way more than what these things are capable of doing.
      But when you understand it. An how to capitalize. On its ability. You’ll be definitely happy with what it’s able to do.
      As far as the heating. Heat pump is never the best way to heat. It’s just cheaper than electric heat.
      If peoples home central air heat pump only heated from reversing the Freon a they were cold. An cranked it up.
      They would probably be pissed at how long that would take also. Due to it’s just not the best way to heat. Least not heat quick. All the ones I e seen. Have electric heat also. Though not needed.
      So one with a central air heatpump. Wanted to raise their inside temp 2-3 degrees or whatever. Sure the heatpump could do that. Not much issue.
      But normally after a certain amount of degree increase on the setting. It would take so long it’s also supplemented
      By electric heat. To get the heat to rise that much faster to its set point. Than the electric kicks out an the heatpump
      Maintains from there. So the heat pump can make smaller increases. An hold a temp. But a higher set point. Or a battle that it can’t on its own that electric heat usually also kicks in.

    I have the zero breeze Mark two and the battery that goes with it but man after seeing this Ecoflo Wave, I wish I’d waited for it because it has a higher BTU rating what is a little lighter but also it does not have the heater on it which is fine because I’m in Florida and I use a little ceramic heater in the winter time when I’m camping. But if I ever get a bigger van, I might go for this Eco flow wave. (I am in a minivan now).
    I think it is a lifesaver for you and your kitties !

    There are a couple big problems with this unit 1) price $1500 without the battery $3,000 with the battery. Alot of people getting into Vanlife don't have this kind of money. A portable A/C unit for you're apartment costs only $300 and can cool a much bigger area and even people like me with alot of savings have trouble justifying paying so much for a small unit. The $200 diesel heater might be a pain at times but I will put up with some inconvenience to save $2000. I don't want to have several thousand dollars worth of gear in my Van because I live in the city and my Van might get broken into at some point and spending thousands to replace everything sounds awful. 2) the other big problem is power consumption. This unit is more efficent than the typical A/C unit but it would still drain my 250 amp hour batter bank in a matter of hours and I need my battery bank to last 4 days. To use this on a regular basis you need access to shore power and many Vanlifers don't have access to shore power.

    • @VanlifePLUS
      @VanlifePLUS  Před rokem

      Yup. That’s exactly why I said it won’t be for everyone and is best with a shore power connection.

    The need to vent the intake and out going air is because it will help you reduce the humidity inside your van. Otherwise you're basically dumping air out of the van and creating a vacuum so you're sucking in exterior air. Picture window air conditioner. The air you're feeling is it closed loop that never comes from the outside. It gets sucked in the front and blown back out the vents in a closed loop that does not contact outside air. Since this thing is inside you don't have the other side of they are hanging out of your window where the air is blowing across the radiator. Therefore it needs to suck air in and then blow it back out in a completely separate closed-loop. So basically there are two different flows of air that never intermingle. One from inside your van that blows back into your van cooling a dehumidifier in the air and on the other side it's pulling air in from outside and blowing it back outside... if you have the air being sucked into the unit and then being blown outside your actually taking the cold air out of your van and blowing it outside and any cracks and crevices in your van are allowing outside air in because you're creating lower pressure inside your van

    Hi Matthew, thanks for the review! Have you thinking about comparing it with the zero breeze mark 2? I am using the zero breeze but I still love to watch the comparison reviews between them too, LOL. It works well for me so far! A trick I use is to chill the cabin with the zero breeze AC before shutting down for the day. This way, the zero breeze can easily maintain the temperature. Well, an ac is an absolute life saver, especially because I adore camping during the summer!

    It was really heavy and the with the extra battery it still didn’t last long. You need to use a power station or solar panels which added to the cost . When temperatures reach high levels sometimes it would throw out out air. I'd probably go with the cheaper zero breeze mark 2 if portability is a consideration.

  • @sunvalleyandy

    I have not seen any actual videos of this in use. I found that if you are trying to heat a van and it is below 41 degrees outside one does not use external air. The unit will not work for more than a few minutes. You need to use the interior air if it is over 41 degrees and keep that air over 41 degrees to have it work over night. In a tent it will not work if the ambient air temperature is under 41 degrees. One may be able to run the intake from a warm sleeping bag and warm the interior of the tent to 41 and then it may work with the ambient temperature of the tent. It is not perfect for cold weather. It’s not great for winter camping. Why doesn’t anyone cover this?

    The rear intake MUST be pulling from the outside, if it isn't you are pulling hot air in from outside through the cracks and other spots in the van, try it out and you WILL see a big difference.

    • @juanberrocal9864
      @juanberrocal9864 Před 10 měsíci

      isnt it the same concept as car AC , two options to pull air in from the inside or outside. In FL you never pull air in from the outside. too hot and humid. elaborate more if you can

    • @OGJeff685
      @OGJeff685 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@juanberrocal9864 Nah man, you want the rear intake to pull air from the outside, run it through the unit and push it back out to the outside. On the other side of the ac you want it to pull the already chilled air from the inside, run it through the machine and push the cold air back out to the inside. The reason this is crucial is because you do NOT want the machine pulling air into the rear of it from the inside space and then exhausting it out through the window. What that does is creates low pressure inside the space you are trying to cool and it will actually pull hot air into the space.

    I am sure the EcoFlow 2 does a good job but for the price running around $1,000.00. I would spend a couple dollars more and get one of the 12v roof AC/Heat units, it does not take up space that is needed, they are made to run on 12v so a good solar and battery system can run them.
