The Bachelor of Music (Contemporary) is AIM's most popular course, offering students a rich diversity of performance & theoretical experiences & helping students develop their skills as performing musicians.
    Major Studies
Combines individual lessons and master classes. Master classes are divided into instrumental groupings: Guitar, Keyboard, Woodwind, Brass, Vocal, Bass and Drums / Percussion.
    Performance Studies
This unit investigates specific genres of music within a rich collection of styles designed to inform and enhance the student’s performance skills.
    Concert Practice
This is the practical component. Students workshop and perform the genres examined in the Performance Studies lectures in a concert environment.
    Genre Studies include:
Twentieth Century Contemporary Blues and Rock, Rhythm and Blues, Soul and Funk, Jazz Standards, Australian Rock and Pop from 1958 to the present, World Music - West African, Afro-Cuban and Latin styles and the Contemporary Performance Artist.
    Ensemble
In a small group setting, teamwork skills are developed as individual performance is focused on awareness, preparation, and commitment to common goals, culminating in a live performance at a significant music venue.
    Academic Studies
All Bachelor of Music students undertake a series of Academic Studies units. These units cover theoretical and aural musicianship as well as historical and cultural studies of music. In the Foundation stages (1-2) of the degree, students cover a broad range of music styles and genres, including western art music and contemporary popular music. In the Industry stages (3-6) of the degree, students are able to focus their critical thinking in a variety of specialist areas including contemporary, jazz, baroque, classical, romantic, avant garde, music theatre, film, roots music, world music and latin music.
    Associated Studies (Electives)
Students select associated studies from a range of performance, production, management, media and technology units to either focus their music education or explore wider opportunities.
    Collaboration
With a network of more than 1500 performance, production and management students and unsurpassed performance, production and teaching facilities, AIM courses promote creative collaboration essential to career success, setting AIM graduates apart from graduates of other universities.

honestly, one of australia's most under-rated musicians.

I know what you mean...but he's rated pretty highly actually

Jonathan Free deserves much wider audience that's for sure. The Merc's early career management publicity machine has a lot to answer for.

I think he's amazing. You can think of being 'under-rated' as a good thing though, only a lucky few of us can share the understanding that he's awesome. Not spoiled by constant radio overplay and teeny-bopper idolisation. A genuine talent that is known for being a good musician

Rai is one of the most talented songwriters today. His Jazz background and percussive piano style are part of what makes his music unique!

A maz ing! Great "music" resonates so deep in your soul that it is timeless. Saw the guys recently in Burrum Heads Qld and the passion Rai still has is what makes watching him so enjoyable. Thank you.
