- Darn, now this is one sad looking bicycle frame - painted at least 3 times - lastly in a super thick hand applied black horrible stuff, this bike frame needs some sort of intervention!
Now I never really wanted this one but it had been floating around on the internet forsale for some time - nobody wanted it and you can see why... but look closely and its something altogether more interesting - it started out life as a Pegoretti made `97 Carrera Asics CGA team bike, rider number 2 - Marco Bellini - as soon as I figured that out, well it has to be saved...
The question I need help with - colour scheme - the `97 Asics CGA Blue with chrome forks (as per original paint) or the `98 Asics CGA Blue/Orange/White with chrome forks and orange FIR rims.... just don`t know what to do - help me out here!

My vote would be for the Blue team colour and chromed forks, then it retains originality and still looks VERY Tasty 😃👍. thanks.
Think your right there, Dan
The intrinsic value of the original paint is long gone thanks to others. I would go with what you prefer…the fade. Me personally, I would go with the blue and chrome but only because that is what I prefer. Good luck on the restoration.
Hard decision to make here! The blue/orange/white scheme really looks good but since this was an actual team frame I would go with the blue/chrome as it was originally. While that design was quite conservative it is also quite elegant so you can't really lose either way. That was some cruel treatment of a Pegoretti frame!
Your bike, your call. However, I would be inclined to keep it original as a historical Show bike. If it is just one in the stable, the go with what brings you joy!
I cannot wait to see the end result. Have fun.
Yep, its the history that weighs in, Dan
1998 blue, orange & white
Tempting... Dan
Living in Cambridge, this is how you paint a bike so its still there when you get back to it!
Nice!!!!!! Dan
I like the blue with chrome fork best but it's your bike. I'm sure it'll be awesome whatever you decide to do. It'll probably ride super sweet too!
Think Blue/chrome wins out - TSX/Cinelli and Pegoretti are a match made in heaven... Dan
Keep it real and accurate with its history. I like the second colour option best but keep it Team Blue. Cheers from Canada
Yep, think you are right, Dan
Go bold! Blue orange & white but need to find a pair those orange anodized rims.
The rims are super cool - though Fir also did them in blue... Dan
How about some forensic paint layer stripping, see if you can identify its original colour scheme? Im not talking painstakingly removing each layer, just go at it at a couple of points on front, centre and rear to see if it was one or more original colours. Could make for some short extended vids and uncovering the truth. You never know what good surprises may lay in store.
Enjoy this project mate😉
Yep, planning on that - some areas seem to have original blue - mainly the hard to get at areas - the tubes look like they have been stripped - did try some gentle paint remover but it didn`t touch the black, Dan
Original blue from me, but as you will be its owner you should choose.
Blue and chrome will look cool - perhaps some Fir ano blue rims... Dan
Hey Dan great and interesting acquisition. Can’t go wrong with a Pegoretti. frame.
I think I would keep in blue and chrome.
I’m definitely looking forward to a road review after completion.
All the best!
Can`t wait to ride this one, Dan
Original blue, chrome fork
Yep, classic look Dan
Original scheme Dan. I think it looks classier and will better reflect the craftsmanship of Dario’s work.
Yep - looking foward to seeing it without its heavy black coat... Dan
The '98 colours are more visually appealing. If it was still blue I'd vote to retain the '97 scheme. One thing's for sure no-one is going to appreciate that frame in its current state!
Things really can only get better with this one, Dan
Blue/orange/white. Will look amazing. That's my vote :)
It would look epic, Dan
My vote is for blue with chrome forks - classy look.
Noted, Dan
Blue/orange/white!
Pleeease Dan!😅
Greetings from Croatia from Kris 😎
Don`t encourage me... :) Dan
@@vintagevelos9517 Oh I will 😊😅
Blue, but for a different set of reasons. You won't have to explain or make excuses. Plus it's about the honesty of the restoration. A straight blue paint plan makes no excuses and isn't trying to be something it never was. It has the dignity and honesty to be just what it was. If it were a counterfeit, or just any old bike, then yah, go ahead. But it has a pedigree. Stick to it.
Actually, your right - I`m the type of chap who would explain the colour change to everyone... Dan
My vote is for the original blue with chrome forks.
It is classic, Dan
Blue livery gets my vote! Looking forward to this build!
Yep, will get started some point soon, Dan
It needs to be the original blue and chrome in my opinion, timeless colour scheme too.
Think your right there, Dan
Blue and chrome no question
Good clear advice, I`m on it, Dan
After all the paint disaster the frameset went through, i think it would desereve to get the original paintscheme back to prevent it becoming schizophrenic.
Got to think of the bikes well being, Dan
Stick with the blue original and maybe orange bar tape . It would also make a great resto mod with slightly newer group set than late 90's that should be easier to find and keep cost down. That paint may have to be professionally removed , great project though.
I`m thinking blue/chrome but with Fir blue rims... Dan
Well, here’s my opinion that many would disagree with. The paint is only original once. Given this can’t be saved/restored and needs to be removed - it’s not going to be ‘original’ anymore. Go with what you’d prefer, the 98 paint scheme with blue, orange and white. It’ll be awesome either way, and you’re saving another steel frame. Look forward to seeing this project!
Looks like blue/chrome is winning out, Dan
Dan it has to be the `98 Asics CGA Blue/Orange/White with chrome forks and orange FIR rims., that such a lovely paint job, it would make the bike look great & more important than it actually is!
Its an awesome look for sure, Dan
If it was a run of the mill mass produced factory frame I wouldn't care less and I'd paint it like a box of smarties. Given though that it's a Pegoretti built frame I would 100% go original. These sort of finds are getting more and more difficult to come across with every passing year.
Yep, on board, Dan
I think out of respect for Bellini, it should be blue and chrome.
However, blue & orange does look very cool..so would understand if you decided to go that way...and maybe he would too!
We are outvoted, but I also thought that blue/orange very tasty.
@@berenicebaker7191 I`m coming around to blue/chrome with Blue Fir rims for a bit more flamboyance... Dan
Poor old bike, it looks so sad. I’m sure it’s going to glow after a lot of hard work, and I look forward to seeing it. 🩷
If the seller knew it was a Pegoretti build,it would have gone for big money
For sure - despite the state its in he would have held out for top dollar - but the work involved is still big, Dan
Blue,orange,white!!!!
Always original if possible in my opinion
Whereever possible - can`t wait to see whats left under that black, Dan
best option is that you pass that bike to me :)
There is only once original color/bike and anything after is just imitation.
By your comment is clear that you dont like "original" paint and you should paint/build it in any style that you like and would make you to want to ride that bike more ....
Before all that effort and money i would build it as is and decide if and how much i like the bike .
Great comment - though I`m inclined towards the blue/orange/white I`d be more than happy with blue/chrome - especially if there`s more chrome under that black and maybe I source some Fir blue rims... Dan
Blue with chrome. Doesn't matter. Needs to be part of the team it was from at the time
Think your right there, Dan
Dearie me, some people shouldn’t be allowed near a bike with paint 🤦🏼♂️ IMHO, any bike with a rich history should go back it original, without doubt, so blue & chrome for sure 👍🏼
Yep, coming round to that thinking, Dan
Nice.
I would expect you to go for the original colour. I think i would in this case.
On board with that, Dan
Back to the original colours would be my choice.
Email Bellini? He might also have some original parts.
Anyone got his email address? Dan
Put it back to original - blue with chrome forks. Much cooler than the blue/orange/white.
Yep, think thats the new plan, Dan
I like orange color on some things, it gives that racer look but I have to agree with the majority here that leaving the orange out and just going with the original blue would be my choice too. I never really liked the paint schemes Pegoretti did anyway. They just aren't fitting for a bicycle. I'm currently having a custom steel vintage like frame made for me by a US builder and I also choose to have it painted blue with polished stainless forks and stays but the lugs will get paint. Can't have a bike looking too much like a Colnago.
Yep - if you like blue and polished just wait until you see the `89 Carrera team bike I`ve just finished - chrome frame with blue chromo, just stunning - video soon, Dan
Blue with chrome.
Classic look, Dan
If you can get the orange rims then I would go with the 98 colours but if not stick to the 97 blue with chrome forks.
Those rims are VERY hard to source - blue Fir are available though - maybe with blue Fir hubs as well... Hmmmm..... Ebay.... Dan
Original blue with chrome.
Thats the prevelent thinking, Dan
Got to be back to blue.
On board, Dan
Original for me
Keep it authentic.
yep, on it, Dan
It’s got to be blue and chrome forks as it will be so as it should be and much less in your face without the orange and white 👍
But I do like in your face late `90`s bikes.... though I draw the line at earings and dogtags, Dan
😂
Original blue with chrome forks
On it, Dan
Artistic licence to do what you want
Well, it can`t get any worse... Dan
Dan, Keep it original, you can't go wrong or you will get pelters from the vintage mafia
And I often offend the vintage mafia with my brake lever placement so better behave myself... Dan
Blue and chrome!!!!
On it, Dan
@@vintagevelos9517 keeping it as a period piece does not negate its aesthetic beauty in any way 😉
Keep it blue original!
Thats the winning choice, Dan
cool it up!
Hmm... I am rather taken with the Fir blue rims/hubs... Dan
Original colour. Otherwise the owner in 2124 will be confused.
Now thats a thought, Dan
My vote, blue frame, chrome fork. Question, any other chrome bits, e.g. chain stays, seat stays?
There is some chrome hiding under that black - won`t know for sure how much/how good until that black is gone - looks like chainstays which would be great - the more chrome the better... Dan
Paint it like Pegoretti style , as a work art, as a homage to Dario
Don`t think i could do one of his flamboyant paint jobs justice, Dan
@@vintagevelos9517 You can do your paint job, will take time but,,,,,, I think is worth it. Anyway, as suits you, Dan , Big hug, !
@@user-cq4nq8ci9o Just time and effort - who doesn`t like a big project, Dan
Back to original.
The more original the better save the clone paint job for a non team bike
Think your are correct, Dan
Hi Dan , original for me.
Noted, Dan
I'd go for the blue, much nicer.
Yep, coming around to that thinking, Dan
I vote blue, not cause of the history but I didn’t like the orange. Blue and chrome would look great.
Can you please tell me where you got the Steven Roche Carrera jersey.
Its a period original - got lucky on ebay, Dan
If you trust your research, return it to exactly what it was.
Yep, blue/chrome is winning out, Dan
Go fade. 👍
Original…
To as it should be always, no fudging.
Yep, agreed, Dan
Just like with classic cars…original.
Michele Bartoli ?
Although that frame looks too big for Bartoli ?
@@brynmatton107 Yep, my first thought was "MB" - Michele Bartoli, but way too small - Marco Bellini - same team, rider no.2 `97 Asics CGA and thats his size, Dan
Blue!
Stick to the history of the bike!
Restore it to how it looked when it raced!
Yep, think so, Dan
только синий и хромированная вилка
Yep, translated and agreed, Dan
Blue,orange,white!!!!
Darn, your swimming against the tide, Dan
