This song was written by Prince and he gave it to The Bangles. Prince was a huge supporter of female artists over the years, and was an early fan of The Bangles. This song jump-started their career. Great group...love their vocals and I don't think they get enough credit for their musical abilities.

When Prince wrote this song, he had another jewel called 'Kiss'. Manic Monday hit
#2 on The Charts and really solidified The Bangles as a top group. Meanwhile, as
this song reached #2, Prince placed #1 above them with 'Kiss'. Man, that guy was
a super talented writer for sure, as well as being a giving person, for allowing
Susannah Hoffs to have Manic Monday for her aspiring young group. The original
name of The Bangles was The Bang, but then they found out a New Jersey group
already had it, so they went to The Bangles which actually fits a girl group even better.

"Manic Monday" is a song by the American pop rock band the Bangles, and the first single released from their second studio album, Different Light (1986). It was written by American musician Prince using the pseudonym "Christopher" and was originally intended for the group Apollonia 6 in 1984. Lyrically, it describes a woman who is waking up to go to work on Monday, wishing it was still Sunday so she could continue relaxing.

Most of the members of the band wrote and sang songs on the albums, but the de facto leader became Susanna. I'll always liked "In your room," Walking down your Street" and "Following" (Michael Steele wrote and sang). They were very versatile but underrated since they were a "girl band" in a male dominated industry. Which is exactly why Female Friday's is so important and fun.
