- Welcome to the finest shopping mall in Sierra Leone, right in Makeni. There are three shopping mall in this country. one in Bo city one in Kenema City and Makeni city. It just a shot visit to the north to get a glance of the beautiful palaces I can fined around my country, but i are not often spoken about.

The problem is that, its very expensive to rent to the local business owners in Makeni and thats the reason why it's empty till date. And let me educate you a bit on your video, this was a project initiated by NASSIT in 2012 called the Shopping Plaza and Terminal Building in Bo, Kenema and Makeni respectively. It's was designed as a one stop shop facility to serve the good people in Sierra Leone but for some best reasons known to the Proj. team negotiations did not work properly between government and the sponsors hence it is what it is people.
The Makeni Plaza was constructed by a Ghanaian company called Regimanuel Gray at a cost of about $1.5 million dollars, which gave them an edge over our bidding team of Nimo Construction, thanx.

I think the City of Freetown, needs this kind of shopping mall because people are selling on the streets and there is no place for them. It is beautiful

@@issadink1119 ooh yes, there's is a lot of space for infrastructures like this to be put up in Freetown, Sierra Leone. And we have to say that it's not just the government but the citizens of the country, both home and the diaspora. If you see a mall like that in other countries like Ghana and Nigeria, it is owned by individuals as a form of investment and not the Government of that country. But by the Grace of God Almighty we will get there as a country. God Bless you.

Empty shops because Makeni is a small town, I am impressed though!
This reminds me of what is happening all over the US. The large malls are dying. There is a movement towards Live-Work-Play communities with shops on the bottom level, amusement venues such as restaurants, movies nearby and people living in apartments above the shops. My favorite version of this is Atlantic Station in Atlanta, GA, USA

Economy is bad, that is why the plaza is empty. More over things have changed. We now doing e-commerce businesses. The time when Sierra Leone should took advantages on the mall era is gone, that means we are far behind development.Thanks!

You are right, it will take a bit of time for people to get used to the top notch shopping centre but it is a welcome development.
that the question, why is it so empty? poor insight into what it takes to have a successful mall. only God kw how much it cost to rent a store there. Is that the right location? Are there complementary businesses in the surrounding? I think victoria park in freetown should have been more appropriate. ( don’t get me wrong, i believe in decentralisation but this was are bad investment and poor timing) what the average earnings of the people in makeni? Anyway it just my view.
I have been there for my FC wedding day it's really are nice place for after work place for pleasure time.
Above all we need to be employed and have enough take home to be there because you can't just go there and come back home with empty hands it will be fuck strating after being there bought nothing else.

The market is not there. It is built were there is abject poverty. Look at the environs tin roof shacks from the drone shot. That is why they do not have renters.No disposable income! Plus Sierra Leone is late on the Shopping Mall Era Experience. The world is now digital in shopping experience and entertainment. They need to do a research study and see if it is possible to build a sizable Shopping Plazza in potential tourist attracted area and develop nice small world standards hotels access to it. Have middle income mix of Sierra Leone and Other countries Restaurant and a Movie Theater in it. They might be successful. Waterloo or Toke area look ideal to me.
