I've just watched the movie. It was really good. F**king high quality of VFX, fight scenes are stunning and magnificent. I love when the master called his summons.

Damn. That's some impressive spellcraft. Gotta love them Chinese sorcerers, I wanted to be one. Still do too, but their mystic stuff is on the deep DL
Is base on I-Ching, and I-Ching is deep.
In my understanding 阴阳师 or Onmyoji in Japan is Japanese sorcerer/priest etc. Similar to shaman or warlock. Contract with spirit is part of their ability. The movie was also base on Japan novel. Just like Taoist in Chinese.
Dr. Strange and Detectives Dee with the puppet master voicing the puppet from after.
My quick review.
I like this kind of movie. It has beautiful Chinese building and the CGI are eye candy.
Strangly, I actually wanna root for the serpent girl and her spirit friend to escape the human that try to hunt them down.
The only thing I don't understand is the long hair girl without a face and her motives.
We know she hate the empress for seducing her late husband, but she helped killed every witness that know the empress identity (serpent carrier).
Then she simply killed the empress with her hair and fled. The empress return back life and nobody bother asking how.
At the end, the empress killed herself, but her eye open again before the credits roll.
I guess she able to fool them all through deception lol.

I think you misunderstood the movie, the hair girl was being controlled, for 60 years, she was controlled, the only person she ever wanted to kill was the empress herself, that's why when the control over her was broken, she went for her immediately.
2. It wasn't the empress that woke up at the end, it's the female master, Master Longye
I randomly bumped into this on Netflix, really love the visuals and the aesthetic of all the magic stuff. It almost reminds me of anime or a videogame cg.

No, Killing Stone isn't Onikiri, because Onikiri is a sword, not a yokai or shikigami.
Yao Bikuni is a 800 years women bikshu, not a queen or princess.
This film is based from Onmyoji novel, not a game version. There isn't character Yao Bikuni in this novel.

I need more!! Pls~ make this into a series with the same casts!! That snow hound, mad painter, and killing stone power's need buff haha like they shud at least make mad painter barriers able to sustain the serpent's first 2 hits.

There is another movie coming out, but due to the recent backlash. The government had banned the movies in theater, hoping the controversial would die so they can release the 2nd one this year. !!!

In term of magic, all writer/thought is almost spiritual similar(1400-1900). Just the VFX similar is modern stuff, that in some sense learning from the west, yet china already does do their innovation on VFX as japan/korea

It’s actually Onmyōji from the novel itself. There was a 2001 adaptation of the Japanese film. In this 2020 version Qingming and Boya. They have the same names as Abe No Seimei and Minamoto no Hiromasa, one in Chinese one in Japanese.

It is based on a novel by Japanese novelist Yumemakura Baku. And the shrine ⛩️ that also appears in the film is Japanese Shinto and the Yin-Yang master Abe no Seimei is also Japanese.
