i love the creative cribbs but this has to be the most genuine and best one I've seen. Nitin's enthusiasm and fanboy wide open eyed nature is why he's a genius and so open and his music spans so many areas. Like you Christian I've admired his work since the 90s and to hear he did that with a fostex and a dat makes me feel very humble that talent is all that matters, gear is just something to enable the passion to get out and on to the track
Thank you very much!!! Nitin is a monstermusician!! My deep respect for both of you!!
What a great Cribs episode! It's a bit mind-blowing to learn that Sawhney recorded *Beyond Skin* in his bedroom, with a consumer stereo as his monitor, laying tracks down on a small 8-track-it's such a sophisticated-sounding record, I just assumed it was a studio creation on a big desk with a big multitracker or Pro Tools. The story of the bookends, first of his childhood fascination with Ravi Shankar, and then being with Shankar at his death, kind of gave me chills. What a talent. Thanks for sharing this! -Tom
an amazing musician and his work is clinically wonderful..
What an amazing and interesting chap. It's a shame this episode is only 18 minutes long, I could easily watch much more of this one.
What an incredible muso, with an amazing array of influences. That Ravi discussion... tears x 1,000,000. Thanks for capturing this!
So nice to hear someone so passionate about music.
That studio (The Dairy) is where I started out. I was working as an assistant there shortly before Nitin took it over as a residential letting. Great to see it again, thanks Spitfire.
Awesome cribs....Nitin Sawhney is a real genius...I remember watching a film he scored called The Namesake and thinking wow what a score that was....Brilliant!
Love this bloke.
Fantastic musician
very inspiring
Ohh God !! Amazing and talented Man.. God bless him.
Incredible studio....massive respect for a class act!
I could have watched that for hours I think. I think nitin is in my top 3 people I’d love to spend a day with. The breadth and depth of his musical ability and knowledge is almost unrivalled I think, plus he just seems like a really passionate and humble guy.
One of the greatest episodes on youtube. Thank you
Once again, Christian makes a video that ushers you into a world outside of yours and, as with any top professional environment you visit, is warm, friendly, inspiring and life changing. The story about Ravi Shankar had tears in my eyes. Totally uplifting! {:o)
What an honour!
The great Nittin 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Great stuff 👍 I've noticed that these Creative Cribs kind of fall into two camps: the ones about the gear and the ones about the music. I like the ones about the music most. 😊
Woah, JTQ connection! I played the hell out of those records!
best thing to watch while downloading a new pack!
Amazing musician. Why did it cut off at 1756?
then me and my black ass just on ableton with earphones that only work on the right side
Ableton's infinitely more powerful than the gear Nitin started with though. And learning to mix in mono isn't a bad thing either, means you can't use the stereo field to compensate for poor instrument choices. Everybody has to start somewhere is what I'm saying and no amount of gear can replace your imagination and talent.
I've got 2 synths and just a digital multi-tracker and no DAW.
I was delighted when I discovered he was in the 'going for an English' sketch
cool room
Great video and such a talent. The studio is a dream too. What amazed me the most though is why would someone give this video a thumbs down lol
By any chance does anyone have the name in mind of the synth that Nitin said shook the cafe with bass...?
It's the Korg microKORG
Was that a reverb tank it's very big doesn't need to be that big
What tuning is it?
C5.
You sank my battleship!
Christian startstruck hahah
Rent must be nuts. On a long-term lease...
