    I remember going through Irma a year ago, and there was no power for a week. During that time, there were companies in the American Airline Arena that had food trucks which offered hot food. Many restaurants offered hot food for free with free water as well. Everyone was super helpful. I remember feeling afraid as well, but just know that if you’re in the way of this hurricane, all will be well. Don’t use your phone unless you absolutely need to and have external chargers set to go! Fill up the bath tub with water so that you don’t use your drinking water for other purposes. My love and prayers to all in the way of this hurricane. ❤️

    When you live in South Carolina....

  • @MrPawPaw
    @MrPawPaw Před 5 lety +1

    Living through a dozen+ hurricanes in Florida heres my take. They are exciting and very stressful at the same time.
    1. Mobile homes or trailers...Get out. They are death traps.
    2. Flood zones...Dont sand bag, Get out or youll be living in filth.
    3. Your secured home, boarded up is realitively safe and better than being stuck somewhere away from home. If you do leave head in the opposite direction of the projected path.
    4. Best things to have...Clean water and a generator. Believe me, a generator is a life saver when you are without power from 3 days to a couple weeks. Itll run your refrigerator, tv, several fans, and lights. Coffee in the morning for the neighbors will make you a hero. Btw, you will use about 5 to 6 gals of gas a day so have 20 to 30 gals on hand. No gas available for several days after is a very real scenario.
    5. Laugh at this if you want but walk your property line and pray Gods protection over your stuff and those dwelling with you as you walk around. The last hurricane e1 lost trees, fences, property damage while the only thing we had were 2 pool floats blown away. Opened the gate and they were both stacked on top of each other. I believe in this stuff. And I pray very loudly to get heavens attention. I would rather look foolish than bury my loved ones or have to rebuild my home.
    I forget the hurricanes name 15 years back but it was headed directly at us in Clearwater. My wife prayed it would turn away. Within the hour the news reported the hurricane stopped, it sat out in the gulf for a couple days and went north. Does God love us more than those the hurricane hit? Not at all. But prayer is a powerful thing. Why wait till after the damage to pray for e1? Thoughts and prayers dont really do alot for those who have already suffered loss. Do it first. You people in the hurricanes path have to be the ones to do this. Dont ask me why. I dont have the answer to this.
    For those who read this, "May God protect you and keep you safe."

  • @GMNGChristian
    @GMNGChristian Před 5 lety +2

    I'm not trying to sound insensitive or anything, but why do people along the coast wait until a hurricane forms before they start preparing for one? Why don't they have walls pre-built to brace against flooding; have shudders installed along side their windows, pantry with food, water, etc.? In the midwest we have stuff in place to give as much protection from tornadoes as possible, because we know they're coming. I dunno, maybe just a different mindset about things.

    • @taishastgeorges1440
      @taishastgeorges1440 Před 5 lety

      You have more time to prepare when a hurricane forms Vs when a Tornado forms. Also, a lot of us here underestimate Hurricanes most of the time

    • @GMNGChristian

      I definitely understand that - and been there before! But I mean as a preventive measure; so it's one of those things that are saved up for and planned ahead of time. Like emergency water for example, when we do have the extra money, just buy jugs of water (or clean, empty jugs and fill them from a trusted source) and store them away to be used only for emergencies. The same with canned food (or jarred), or sandbags (or blocks) for building a wall/levy to help against flooding if that's something that occurs in your area on a regular basis. So it's one of those things that we slowly apply to ourselves over time, so we don't feel the pinch in our pocketbooks, and before you know it, you've got an emergency ration and water supply and protection against the weather and it won't feel like it cost you very much to put it all in place because it was done over time. :) But I do understand that we all have different financial situations, so the application may be a little different per household.

    The worst place to ever say "I wish I had" is in the middle of 140 mph winds. And if this beast sits down on top of us, two feet of rainfall will make the worst threat under our feet. The average loss of life with this category storm is about 20. The elderly is the most vulnerable and the next is people trying to drive through six inches of water on back street somewhere. Please be safe, secure anything outside that you don't want to fly at 140 mph towards something or someone. Check on elderly neighbors beforehand and God bless any animal or pet outside when the deluge comes.

      Really the best place to go is the highest summit they can reach along the Appalachian range..You will be the safest against all runoff rivers..Stay out of the water basins and along rivers. I've skiied from the Carolina's to The Berkshires of Vermont..At the summits only wind and rain will be an issue but once the rain stops within 48 hours all runoff will be gone..It's the valleys that will be devastated.

      Depends on your house. I’ve lived in South Florida for 30 years and have never had any damage from a hurricane minus some minor flooding in my garage. But we’re accustomed to hurricanes, and build our houses accordingly. When you see contemporary major hurricane damage, it’s usually in Texas or Louisiana, places that aren’t used to getting hurricanes and who therefore aren’t equipped.
      Edit: Oh, and we’ve lost a couple fences and a 20+ year-old woodshed came down.

You do need to take this seriously but it is not the end of the world. If it stays as a category 4, and you love in a good neoboirfhood, the worse that's going to happen is some small trees are going to fall down and you may lose power. With all this being said though, make sure along with supplies you buy games and your phone is charged, because no power for 3 days makes you go insane

      Yeah....3 days without electricity can make you go insane...... How about a year without electricity in Puerto Rico there still location a year already from Irma and Maria no electricity. And we had two major hurricane back to back. With only days after Irma we were hit with Maria. And supplies we're scarce to none and the basics out when Maria came.
