I rushed to the bar to check it out and walked in and literally 15 seconds after I walked in the leafs scored and the place went nuts. It was pretty awesome. Small town pub in southern Ontario.
Samsonov played one hell of a game. The ONLY reason the leafs won tonight. Although it’s tough seeing the lightning go out like this, you guys 100% deserve it. The long offseason will serve us well, so I’m not too upset. At least we’ll get some decent rest. Hell of a series boys, hope you guys kick Boston or Floridas ass!

Samsonov, with the help of his goalie coach, Curtis Sanford, has raised the level of his game very significantly.
You guys have Vasilevskiy, who has been great this playoff series. I think the defense let him down.
u mean the only reason they won was refs never called a penalty on Tor 4 the Hagel high stick.
I did not believe in Samsonov to start this series. He stole that game. Aside from game 1, he was a lot of the reason the leafs were even in the series. Also Leafs need to extend Matthews. 5 goals this round and every goal he scored was critical. 3 goals in game 3 and 4 combined that started both comebacks and game 5 brought them to within a goal to give them fighting chance to tie it up and then the opening goal tonight. He is playing with a sense of urgency I have never seen in him before and it’s been a pleasure to watch him this year. I also want to see schenn, McCabe and O’Reilly in leafs jerseys next year
McCabe is signed for two more years after this. The only way Schenn and O'Reilly stay is if they are willing to take a huge discount

Big congratulation to the Leafs. The victory is sweeter because of the Lightnings, the most difficult opponent in hockey playoffs at the moment. The team efforts helped win the game but Samsonov was huge today.
From a Habs fan and from I hope many many in Hab nation, big congratulations to Toronto. Winning on the road like that was huge. John T coming through with a brilliant shift in OT to win it. What a leader. And many of my fellow Hab friends scoffed when I said our captain Suzuki would be a third liner on Toronto. You would replace Matthews with him? John T with him? Maybe 4th line, because I wouldn’t replace O’Reilly with N.Suz either. Oh well, we will be there in 3-4 years. In the meantime, enjoy Toronto. Don’t want to jinx it but I think they really can win the cup this year. Go Leafs!.....go Habs!(next year)

Go, Leafs, Go!!! It's been 19 years since they make the 2nd round of the playoffs. Also, let me say this again. I was a 2-month old baby when the Leafs make the 2nd round in 2004. Now, I'm a 19-year old man before going to college as the Leafs did it again after 19 years of getting eliminated in the 1st round 7 times. What a long nightmare and even though my lifetime!
After tying it up late and winning it in OT in game 3 I knew this was a different Leafs team. They would NEVER win those types of games. Then, after the game 4 comeback it was pretty much bound to happen. Congrats from a Rangers fan, hope to see you guys down the road. Would be a great series

I can't help but laugh at some of the haters saying ''They didn't call that high stick at the end of regulation'' as if they got amnesia and forgot the exact same high sticking call was ignored on Knies late in the game in game 5. So proud of this team for finally conquering those first round demons. You could argue this was their worst played series of the Matthews playoff era and they won. lol Sammy was unreal in this game and just winning a series will go a long way for this team to know they can do it. They're going to be a hard out going forward.
If you noticed, Nylander was tired after a lengthy shift and came off. John Tavares jumped off the bench like a young colt, got hold of the puck, raced around with determination, controlled it in the Lightning zone then wheeled and practically willed that puck toward the net. Albeit, it went off Morgan Reilly's skate, then Tampa's Raddysh's skate for the goal. Sometimes you need a little luck for your efforts and a prayer.
That final shift was insane. Seeing Knies and JT down low battling and whipping that puck around, man. Im so excited for next round.
Tavares broke the Islanders’ 23-year-curse in, now he breaks the Leafs’ 19-year-curse, both which were 2-1 OT victories. How about that?

I just wish that Leafs and Lightining had met in Eastern Conference Final instead of in the first round. Great to see Toronto move on. Also, great to see how devoted Tampa fans are to the Lightning. Considering that area of Florida is a four-sport area (Bolts, Orlando Magic, Buccaneers, Devil Rays), and that it is not a traditional hockey market, their fans seem pretty devoted.

I was at this game, I am a Habs fan but I’m in a family of Leaf fans. It honestly brought me so much joy to see my parents finally get to celebrate a 1st round win, I just turned 19 in March so I was only 1 month old when they last won a playoff round. My family cheered for the Habs when they went past round 1 in 2021 (We always cheer for teams from Canada) so even as a Habs fan, I’m hoping the Leafs can take it even further. Also, shoutout to Tampa Bays fans, a lot of the salty ones are on social media but they were actually some of the friendliest fans I’ve ever encountered on the road, wish you guys the best of luck in the future!

You have no idea hell I have no idea what I would do if they pull off the dream I been waiting since 1967 to see them win a cup I was born three weeks after they last won the cup.
Highly unlikely but it would be epic if Edmonton and Toronto played for the cup. Would mean a lot to a country that desperately needs something to cheer about.
If the leafs won the cup the party would last months. The birth rate would go up significantly and the city would grind to a halt. No City in the world would go as crazy as Toronto would.
In the day and age of pictures being put on cans maybe a picture of Trudeau on the pucks may just get the players to hit it even harder. Great win leafs.

I still can't believe this finally happened. This was EASILY the most stressed out I had ever been watching a playoffs series. I couldn't take any more 2004 jokes. The feeling of anxiousness, nervousness and stress instantly being washed away and simultaneously being replaced with a sensation of jubilation, relief, happiness and excitement is something I'll never forget.
In retrospect, the fact that the Leafs won this series feels miraculous. They were HEAVILY outplayed in 5 of the 6 games by a Lightning team that expertly held the offensive zone most of the time. Thankfully, Samsonov found a way to keep the Leafs in this series, and the team never gave up even when it looked bleak. It's very frustrating that we didn't get the same result in previous years, but as they say, better late than never.
Despite the first round curse being behind us, the much bigger 1967 curse still looms over large; a constant reminder of the bigger task at hand. I have hope that this Leafs team will finally bring Toronto back to the top of the hockey world. But only time will tell.
