    Have you ever wondered how your sprinkler system works? In this video, Dave gives us the breakdown of the valve systems-what they do and how they work.
    You'll learn a lot about those parts of your sprinkler system that you see on a regular basis, but aren't sure what their purpose is or how they function.
    Parts of your sprinkler system that are discussed:
    • Anti-siphon valves-These valves prevent water from flowing back into your sprinkler system and causing a backup.
    • Solenoid-This is a feature of your sprinkler system that deals with the electronic functioning, such as charging the clock or sending an electrical charge from the controller to the valve which opens up the diaphragm.
    • Flow Control-With this valve you can control the flow of water by turning it down or up as needed. Usually, you are able to turn water down about 85-90%, but it is abnormal for it to turn all the way off.
    • Bleeder valve-If you have debris built up in your valves, the bleeder can flush them out and clear that debris. If you notice leaking valves, take a screwdriver and open the bleeder valve slightly to flush out the diaphragm in case debris has found its way in there. Make sure you close it tightly!
    • Diaphragms-The diaphragm opens and then releases the water to go to your sprinkler head. If the diaphragm is old, blown out, or otherwise damaged, the clock will no longer be able to control it and your watering will not occur with the precision that it may be set for. Bad diaphragms are quite common-making up the bulk of Dave's calls.
    Replacing valves can be tricky, which is why the best way to replace one is to give Dave a call. He'll come out and give you a free estimate on what it will take to get your sprinkler system working in tip top shape again!

    I don't have an automatic sprinkler system - but my neighbor does. He had problems with it and asked me to figure out what's wrong. Thanks to your concise video, I understood the basic principals well enough to work on it. Thanks!

    Aquatech, thank you for the informative video. I had a valve that did not appear to be working but after trying your maintenance techniques, it began to work again. Saved me money, time, heart ache (from the wife - don't tell her I said so)... THANK YOU !

    Great video! I will try and lower the water pressure on my last valve which has been just now replaced. The valve was replaced because of a very loud 'BOOM' water hammer when shutting off. I no longer have that loud BOOM but i still have a light water hammer which drives me crazy. Thank you for the information. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    How do we find the Rain Bird valve model number so we can accurately replace parts?

  • @douge8965
    @douge8965 Před 9 lety +1

    If the valve doesn't turn off because of a bad diaphragm, you don't need to replace the whole valve. You simply need to install a new diaphragm, right?

      you can repair the valve.

    • @brianhaygood183

      Yes, you can take the screws off from around the diaphragm and open the valve, remove the old diaphragm, and replace it with a new one.

    If I have pipe going up hill an sprinkler valve turns on after it cycles all the water comes back down to the anti siphon valve what can I do

    • @Historiot
      @Historiot Před 7 lety +2

      Junior Escareno if the hill isn't very steep, cut and raise the entire valve until it's higher than the highest sprinkler line. If you don't want to raise the valves or if the hill is steep then trench the pvc lines so that they are level all the way from the valve to the last sprinkler. It's a lot of digging but no chance you'll have dirty water coming back into your house.

      EMILY BARONE legit don't hire any of these types of guys. Do a little research and use common sense. 9/10 times it is the diaphragm underneath the valve. Remove all the screws and there's a rubber diaphragm. Check for damage. General hardware stores carry replacements take the old one with you to make sure you get the right one. Home Depot, lowes, etc... If there is no damage to it unscrew the back fill cap that the valve goes to and check to see if there's any rocks or debris clogging the system. If none of these things are it, take off a different valve head and leave the wires attached and put the one that works on the one that doesn't. If that fixes it check with a volt meter to see if the bad valve has a current to make sure it's not the control box and then the only unturned stone is to simply replace the valve.

      How do you know he installed the system in the video? He may have just been called in to work on it and he may not have been the original installer. Or maybe the customer specified the cheap stuff to save money. You have no idea what the whole story is here.
