  • The Bible's idea of God and Satan makes us think of the Garden of Eden. In this video, Jordan Peterson gives a talk on sin in the Garden of Eden, on God, and the association of Satan with snake in the Garden of Eden. Surely you know this story of God from the Bible, but told by Jordan Peterson, it's an extra motivation to watch this video ... God is good ... God bless you!

    Thank you for this message of encouragement. It gives me hope. Please pray for me. I can’t seem to catch a break lately. I am a single mother with two beautiful children that suffer from autism. I lost my job as a social worker because I declined the vaccine. I declined due to my pre existing health conditions. Lupus and heart disease. I was denied my medical/religious exemption from Forsyth hospital. Every month is a struggle to not end up homeless on the streets. Im in such fear because we have nowhere to go if we lose our home. I have no family or friends to help me. I’ve been put down and mocked over my circumstances. IM SO ASHAMED. I want to give up but my faith in Jesus is too strong. I will continue to have faith that our Heavenly Father will provide for me and my children he will save us from poverty. Please pray for us. Thank you. God bless.

I have a daughter as we speak in the hospital. She is bipolar going through a divorce and 6 months pregnant. She had a nervous breakdown and have been praying for healing and protection. They are treating her and hopefully she will be back in a dew days. The hardests thing is to finally leaving everything in God's hand. To bring the right people and solutions for her and rest of my children. Life has been very difficult but the lessons are to get us closer to Jesús. Have Faith because no matter what happens to us in this earth we have the victory of eternal life with the Father in heaven. I will be praying for you 🙏

    To understand this relationship one needs to realize that to relieve man of what’s killing him (snakes) God told Moses to put the snake on a pole and as man is plagued by the serpent, if he or she looks to the serpent on the pole, deliverance comes. This was intended to foreshadow Christ. For as we realize what’s really destroying man is sin. And so Christ became sin who knew no sin and he nailed to a cross and paved the way to redemption through His sacrifice. And now as we look to the cross, we find deliverance from what is destroying us. Thank You Jesus!

    I have had a tough few years. I have had to face my greatest fears and my own inner demons, all in a fairly short period of time. It wasn’t t until I understood that being “Saved” is not a decision that was made in church. It is not being listed on a church’s membership. It is not something you did that one time when Baptized. Being saved is about waking up everyday and choosing whom you will follow, whom you will serve. Being saved is knowing that the Holy Spirit is with you, especially in the darkest time. Being saved is not something you could ever do through any human power but knowing that Jesus Christ did! It is knowing that one day Jesus Christ will return for you

    Basically, Professor Jordan Peterson just said that God lets bad stuff happen to us to bring the best out of us. That just kinda clicked with what He said about what the ideal father is like: to simultaneously love your son (and I'll use son here, because fathers can be as tough as they like on us without flinching) but also to move them on from where they are (maybe a bit lazy and complacent and taking it easy) to where he knows that they can be.
    So what this all adds up to, for me, is that God created this Universe as the ideal training ground to grow us up as His children and heirs, so that through trials and tribulations, we might grow unto salvation.

      @risenyeshua7935 Před 2 lety +1

      You have to look deeper and so does Peterson. The original Hebrew of Genesis 1 tells the story of the "INsurrection" of the elohiym (angels).
      Before this time, space, flesh system existed as we see it there was only the Most High and the angels. The angels existed in ranks and classes. There was a high ranking angel that we would think of as a worship leader. This angel became lifted up in pride and wanted to be worshipped like the Most High so he came up with a plan, the "first" conspiracy that led to the INsurrection. This angel "enlightened" the other angels with the idea that they could be separated from the Most High and be their own god and they could partake of the pleasures of the flesh and make images of themselves both male and female, sound familiar?
      The Most High created this system as a REsolution to the INsurrection. He created this system as a means of REconciliation. He did not create mankind for fellowship and then decide to punish every human with being born in sin and born into death because the first two sinned. We are here because we are the "angels which kept not their "first""estate" but left our own habitation and the Most High has reserved us in "everlasting" "chains" unto the judgement of that great day. We are here because we chose this, we all ate from the tree of knowledge and good and evil. This is the second chance for the angels that took part in the INsurrection under deception. He created this system again as a REsolution to the INsurrection to REconcile us BACK to Himself. His purpose was to come into this system and show us His love for us in the only way we could truly understand as Peterson talks about a little, by dying for us. The only Good and innocent to ever come into this world and showing us how much He loves us. We each came into this system in our own time, rank and place and we came into this system with the devil that deceived us to begin with hence the symbology of the all seeing eye. Born upside down into a duplicitous flesh prison. Believers await what's called the REsurrection but most don't understand the concept that in order to take part in the REsurrection you must have taken part in the INsurrection to "begin" with. He came to REdeem, REpurchase, REconcile us back to Himself in the REsurrection. Hope this helps, to understand this you must ignore translation and look at the original definitions of the original languages. It's too much to get into in a comment but I'm trying to just share the "jist" of it.

    I love the way Jordan puts the death and resurrection of Christ the anointed one in psychological language and not religious. It makes it real for the individual and helps makes sense of suffering. As the Lord suffered so do we in a much lesser degree .If we are aware suffering has a meaning and cleanses us we can bear it better. It’s the lack of meaning which is so destructive in the modern world.

The problem with those who have chosen to reject God and they have eyes to SEE what God does for those who love and serve and live for HIM, the snakes become very jealous of their FREEDOM and make an effort to annihilate them.

      Hebrew 9:22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
      23 It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. 25 Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. 26 Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

    Thats a great thought and also quite an interesting train of thought. However, I believe that your question, “What is going on here?”, can be answered quite simply. When Christ refers to being lifted up like the serpent in the wilderness, he refers not to just any serpent or the serpent Satan, but rather to the brazen serpent that Moses raised up on a pole after the Children of Israel had sinned greatly against God while they dwelt in the wilderness after having left Egypt but before entering the Promised Land. They were to look at the serpent that Moses raised and they would be saved from the poison of the snakes that had been sent by God as punishment for their sin. This is significant because in the same manner Christ would die and if man would look to Christ and believe, he could be saved, not just from the effect of sins punishment but from the penalty of sin itself.

    Dear Mr. Peterson, the "serpent at the wilderness" is that "episode" that happened to the Jews as they were wandering through the desert after having fled from the Pharoh of Egypt. They came to a point that as consequence to their idolatry, grumbling, doubts, & accusation that Moses led them to die at the desert, the people were stricken with illness & death, & Moses & Aaron were commanded to make a snake form that is tied to a pole & to raise that as a symbolic gesture to a ritual that shall take away &/or take the place of the "danger of death" & the people will be granted deliverance, healing!! Such remmbrance of that "miracle" of healing was what Jesus was reminding the Jews. It was taken up at a Bible study I atended in the 90s. I wonder ifu'v encountered this topic already, if u🙂haven't then am glad to share it here.

    Mr.Peterson, I do jot know how, when or if the Jews ever inferred that the serpent from Genesis was in fact Satan. But it is not until the last book of the Bible, where we learn that this is the case at Apocalypse 12:9.
    Regarding Jesus saying he had to be lifted as a serpent, maybe he was referring to an analogy of what happened in the wilderness registered at Numbers 21:8 as it is related to salvation.
    Many thanks for sharing freely your deep thoughts on this subjects. It is profoundly appreciated.

    I've always wondered why Adam and Eve just didn't ask for wisdom if that's what they really wanted. These 3 points make alot of sense regardless of how you slice it. I've had conversations in the past with people that think along similar lines, somehow God's punishment did not agree with them so they consider all things false. This video confirms my old conclusion. It's good to dive deeper into details with scripture but again it doesn't matter how you slice it because the universal need for Jesus remains. Repercussions follow choices even when we are not wise or fully aware of what it is that we do. Even if Adam and Eve did not know fully what they did at the time, we have all sinned and need the deliverance Jesus provides. I think we should consider God's Mercy in allowing Adam and Eve to live the life they did just as we live ours. God did not execute them immediately but continued to provide for them even outside of the garden. The idea of the question seems valid but my 2 cents won't allow room to challenge or refute God just because I don't agree with something He did. I have done many things that God doesn't like but He still provides amongst the consequences of my unwise choices.

    The serpent that tempted Eve ...... was it a snake as we seem to think? It was only when GOD cursed the serpent that it was to crawl on it's belly, so what form was it before that? The serpent on the pole and those looking upon it will be healed, was a foreshadowing of Christ on the cross. The serpent represents sin, on the cross Christ took on the sin of ALL of mankind., He became sin. When we see Him on the Cross taking away our sin, and recieve that, we are healed. It is hard to accept that the only way for us to come into a right relationship once again with GOD is to accept the fact there is nothing WE can do, other than look to the cross and accept His suffering and death as payment for our sin.

Eden was the interface between the natural and the supernatural, where man met with God, before The Temple became that interface. Satan, may be, according to Ezekiel, that seraph that Eve met in the garden.

    (Ezekiel 28:11-17)
    11 Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me: 12 “Son of man, raise a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him, Thus says the Lord God: “You were the signet of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
    13 You were in Eden, the garden of God;
    every precious stone was your covering,
    sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, emerald, and carbuncle; and crafted in gold were your settings and your engravings. On the day that you were created they were prepared.
    14 You were an anointed guardian cherub. I placed you; you were on the holy mountain of God; in the midst of the stones of fire you walked. 15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you.
    16 In the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence in your midst, and you sinned; so I cast you as a profane thing from the mountain of God, and I destroyed you, O guardian cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

    The Suffering Servant
    1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
    2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
    3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
    4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
    5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
    6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
    7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
    8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
    9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
    Isaiah 53:3
    When we see Jesus, a Man of Sorrows and acquainted with grief, working to save the lost, slighted, scorned, derided, driven from city to city till His mission was accomplished; when we behold Him in Gethsemane, sweating great drops of blood, and on the cross dying in agony,--when we see this, self will no longer clamor to be recognized.{DA 439}

    The Holy Spirit works with fire to refine the sword (scripture) & set it on fire (passion), after oil (effort) is used to light it. It as a light source, as we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, allows us to see where we are going. He also fashions & refines armor (of righteousness) for us to wear, to be ready for whatever comes against us. Those who live by the sword, die by the sword, even Christ Himself died by it. God counted the cost of what He was building when he set out to make it all. Imagine accepting the cost before building, & that cost being your own life being taken, by the sword you fashioned. He also uses fire to make a clearing, burning up all the dead trees & brush, for us to then plant gardens. Fire also scares away wild animals. But the bronze snake is not afraid of fire, it was used to refine even him. When Moses threw the staff down, it became a snake, that overcame the other 3 in battle. The 3 snakes were poisonous, as false healers are poisonous. Christ was referenced to this snake, because He is not a poisonous healer. His practice was & is upright & true. He as a healer did not come to heal those who were not sick. Snakes crawl through the dust. Our bodies were made from dust. We are as soil, for planting seeds. If "healers" as snakes, crawl through our dust, even when we are healthy, then they are not following the instructions Christ followed & taught. They are as the other 3 false healers were, which just so happens to be a form of witchcraft. All healing comes from the Father, but if what's being done is not for healing, than it is not from Him. Snakes are wise & cunning, but they are not to be trusted unless they follow Christ's teaching as the "great physician".
    See now, that what is being done in the "medical industry" is actually a form of witchcraft. Which is a lie & also poisonous. As false healers, offering promises of a brighter future, for the sake of making more snakes, that are not the free kind but traps that we're set a long time ago. We've seen the sign 💰, we just saw it how they see it. But he tried warning us. He said "You can't serve God & money."

    *_"So Jehovah sent poisonous serpents among the people, and they kept biting the people, so that many Israelites died. So the people came to Moses and said: “We have sinned by speaking against Jehovah and against you. Intercede with Jehovah so that he may remove the serpents from us.” And Moses interceded on behalf of the people. Then Jehovah said to Moses: “Make a replica of a poisonous snake and put it on a pole. Then when anyone has been bitten, he will have to look at it in order to keep alive.” Moses at once made a serpent of copper and put it on the pole, and whenever a serpent had bitten a man and he looked at the copper serpent, he survived."_*
    Numbers 21:6-9
    *_"If I have told you earthly things and you still do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? Moreover, no man has ascended into heaven but the one who descended from heaven, the Son of man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so the Son of man must be lifted up, so that everyone believing in him may have everlasting life."_*
    John 3:12-15
    Jordan has missed out the part of Moses and the Copper Serpent that saved those who looked at in faith, It is prophetic of Jesus being "lifted up" as a sacrifice and by virtue of the ransom of Christ's blood, you will be saved.
    The next verse Jesus then utters to Nicodemus, the very next verse is John 3:16 which famously says:
    *_"“For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life."_*

    Many miss an important facet about the garden of Eden.
    Genesis 3:22-24 KJVS
    [22] And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: [23] Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. [24] So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
    Spiritual maturity cannot be gained without the knowledge of good and evil, and being trained in making the right choices regarding good and evil.
    Hebrews 5:12-14 ESV
    [12] For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, [13] for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. [14] But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

He is a powerful spirit creature that chose to become the first rebel against God. He challenged God's rulership and questioned his motives. He called God a liar. He seduced the first couple to join him in his rebellion. ( Genesis 3:1-4) Also, God did not put enmity between a mere snake and Eve. It was Satan he was condemning. Her seed would ultimately crush the serpent in the head. You can't crush a concept in the head. ( Genesis 3:14-15) Later, other angelic sons of God joined in with his rebellion. ( Genesis 6:1-3) He brazenly went before God and accused the righteous man Job. ( Job 1:9) Later, this same wicked spirit tried to openly tempt the sinless Son of God, Jesus Christ. Not once but 3 times, even offering him "all the kingdoms of the earth, because they are mine to give to anyone I please" ( Luke 4:6 NLT). No concept there. Just a powerful, malevolent spirit creature as the account states. Jesus later identifies him again, saying to the wicked religious leaders of his day, " You are from your father the devil, and you wish to do the will of that one. He was a manslayer from the beginning, and does not stand fast in the truth, because the truth is not in him. When he lies, he lies according to own disposition, because he is a liar and the father of the lie". John 8:44 The apostle Paul and the apostle Peter both show Satan to be a real entity. Paul called him the "god of this system of things" ( 2 Corinthians 4:4 ) and also " the ruler of the authority of the air" (the air being the dominant mental spirit/attitude of this world that permeates all human activity in this present system) Ephesians 2:2. Peter describes him as "your adversary, the devil (who) prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking to devour someone". 1 Peter 5:8. There are many more scriptures like these.
    So the Bible is very clear in that Satan is a real entity, an actual being that resists God and persecutes those that try to obey him. He is to be thrown into the abyss during the thousand year reign of Christ and ultimately destroyed. Also, as a side note, the serpent Jesus was referring to in John 3:14 was not the serpent in the garden. It was the image Moses used in the wilderness for snake-bitten Israelites to look to and be healed.

    So good! It is a high standard to be grateful for suffering. However, I see that as a normal part of being a believer. Jesus suffered the worst. How could any suffering that happens to me compare. Further. I am in America so personally even poor I have had it better then at least 90% of the world. If i get struck down by disease ok or if im under the yoke of oppressorrs warranted or not that...that goes hand in hand with my faith. Jesus was sinless. I was "born in sin" so my hope is with my savior Jesus Christ. I die to myself and live for him wether its painful suffering or no suffering. The will of the father rings true! My hope is that people see the attributes in Christ through me. Do not see me see him who sent me. John the baptist said,"I must become less so he can become more".
