Rarely ran into live versions of "I want you around". Thanks for sharing this one! You gotta admit, they were pretty much on their fastest level right here as far as Johnny's true downstrokes are concerned anyway.
Compared to the gig they did for example in 1980 (Reggio Emilia in Italy) , they seemed to have slowed down...
Yeah, 1979 was blistering. Their Chicago 1979 show (Oct 13th) is one of the fastest shows I've ever found with Johnny's more or less original playing style, before he started really modifying it in the 80s. France in early 1980 (Feb 24) is also a ridiculous show to try to play though, he was still playing the '79 way there
@@HardlyRamone know what you mean but the '80's style of playing kinda forced Johnny's playing style into skipping a beat on that 4/4 drumbeat at say 300bpm they where getting into. A man's gotta make choices! :-) . I feel sorry for Deedee as he never seem to have gotten any credits for playing his bass using downstrokes only just like Johnny did.

That was the speed in 1979. Saw them in New Haven, Hartford and Willington, Ct, in the late 70s. They blazed through the set in 60 minutes.
@@johnholcomn8560 Yeah, 77-79 was crazy for tempos. This isn’t even the fastest in ‘79, there’s a recording from Chicago where they go so fast right from the start
Yeah, man, they were fun. Half the people in the club would run for the exits. Nobody had ever heard anything like it. Full on jet engine with no wasted time. I remember not hearing for hours after the shows.
