Delhi-Amritsar High Speed Rail Corridor is a planned high-speed rail line connecting India's capital, New Delhi and Punjab's city Amritsar. It was one of the six new high-speed rail corridors planned in 2019
The high-speed route connecting important cities of Northern India will cut short the distance from existing six hours to under two. IIM-Research in New Delhi has been entrusted with conducting the socio-economic survey for the corridor. The proposed high-speed rail corridor will feature a dedicated 55-foot-wide railway track for bullet trains, expected to operate at speeds of 320 km per hour. It is anticipated that this high-speed rail will reduce travel time between Amritsar and Delhi from the current five hours to just two hours. Survey Teams Engaged in Local Communities To carry out the survey, IIM-Research has assembled 12 teams, which have been deployed in Fatehgarh Sahib and Mohali districts. These teams are engaging with local residents whose land is likely to be acquired for the project. Factors Under Consideration During the survey, efforts are being made to determine whether the proposed land acquisition will include houses, tubewells, and trees. Additionally, the survey aims to assess whether the affected residents rely on this land for their livelihoods. The primary focus of land acquisition is agricultural land, and the final decision will take all these factors into account. Scope of Land Acquisition The project involves the acquisition of land from a total of 365 villages. In Mohali, a separate survey is being conducted to assess the feasibility of establishing a railway station in alignment with the dedicated corridor for the high-speed rail.
