- When Larry Goldings told me that "we should do another podcast where we talk about our classical influences”, I was beyond excited. In this 3-hour conversation about our musical upbringings and influences we also play a lot of piano for each other. As you can imagine, this is exactly what I was dreaming of all my life: talk to my heroes about their process and have them show me what they're doing. This is why I started this podcast in the first place. Join me and Larry, talking about music, playing piano and hanging out.

THIS is the best one ( for me ) so far !!! So informative and filled with so many rabbit holes to dive into. Thank you Pablo and Larry !
oh wow, thanks Paul!!
2:46:00 i love to hear goldings say that he always liked guitar, and that he has played piano in a guitaristic manner, because i have spent a lot of guitar shedding trying to sound like a piano. Pablo and Larry thank you!
Thank You!!
Mompou! never heard of Mompou! what a discovery. The music is so wonderful that I will have to come back to watching this absolutely brillant video till the end after having heard everything by Mompou!
cool! You've got to check out his own recordings - MOMPOU PLAYS MOMPOU
@@PabloHeldmusic I will. thank you!
What a beautiful way to portrait Jazz, to portrait art, to portrait life. Wahnsinnig feinfühlig.
wow thanks for this. That Ibert concerto is something else!
Wonderful chat!
It's so so nice to hear both of you talk about the music of Mompou and a few other names of classical! I remember my first year at Berklee, going to the library and finding an album of piano music. His name was there. It was a turning point for me as well. That was in 95. And also mentioning George Shearing (such elegance and depth). There's an album with Robert Farnon and Shearing thats out of this world! Thank you Pablo and Larry.
Edward Elgar........great interview again, made my day
thank you!
Brahms: 7 Fantasias, Op. 116: No. 2, Intermezzo A Minor. (Aldo Ciccolini). Don't know what bar, at about 2 minutes 20 seconds in. P.S. This is the best ever. When is Larry coming back? He is the best. Love your interviews Pablo. Never stop.
i am so classically illiterate but i love larry and what a pleasant surprise, this conversation is just full of gold! 🪙💰 thank you!!
Such a joy to listen in on this conversation.
Thank you David!
Wonderful hang out! This has been on repeat for the whole week🙏
Ah thanks, that’s so cool!
You should have Larry on once a year to discuss different topics.
Thanks Pablo!
Noted! It’s a nice idea!
Enjoyed that , got some juicy ideas and it's a bonus that Larry makes me laugh , sometimes even when he's not trying to be funny.
Amazing! Thank you, Pablo :)
🙋♂️ Duy! Danke dir!!
I warmed up my Coldbrew hahaha 😂
This is so good. Thank you!
Thanks for checking it out!
I fucking love this
Klasse!
Vielen Dank!
Chick plays Lush Life on a solo record called " Expressions " released on GRP Records
correct!
1:54:20 Does anyone know which George Shearing album this is from?
What a great video again - thank you so much for doing this!! A wealth of information right here - it took a while to get through the video because of all the moments where I had to hit pause at least to
a) learn the Ravel prelude on the piano
b) listen to Ibert's flute concerto
c) watch the video of Bream playing flute for Stravinksky
d) listen to the Shearing bossa nova album - thank you for mentioning that! I thought I knew all the Fischer stuff, apparently not
Awesome stuff! Maybe I missed it but what was that Strauss tune that you talked about? Thank you so much for this inspiring gem!!
Wow thank you Petri!
@@PabloHeldmusic as a follow-up, I finally made it to Mompou. 😊 And I realized I did know some of his stuff from my classical guitar days. So much music, so little time...
Louis Armstrong used to improvise along with opera records
I love the thought of that!!
BTW Pablo, have you noticed that Claus Ogerman wrote a lot of those very surprising and deceptive stuff just like the example in that Strauss piece?
And what transcription is the Strauss one?
This is all well and good, but more important is why isn't Weird Al in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame??
What is the recording at the start? Sounds like Larry but I don't recognize it.
That’s Larry and me in duo. I sat in with him on “You Do Something To Me”
@@PabloHeldmusic Awesome! Is that recording online anywhere? Such a good standard Shorty Rodgers and Andre Previn have a great underrated version too.
Fantastic interview! What is the piece in C major that Larry plays briefly at 24.49? The diatonic rising thing..
Great interview! Where is that recording in the intro from?
that's a duet of Larry & me from a concert in Köln in 2019
Danke, Pablo! Das hat Spaß gemacht! 8-)
Simon! Danke dir! Das freut mich
1:40:15 They did not, in fact, "put it here".
Edward Elgar - Pomp & Circumstance March 1
This is a great conversation! Just curious... Do you guys both have absolute pitch?
I'd say I have pretty good relative pitch. What about you @larrygoldings ?
@@PabloHeldmusic Larry has said the same in the past ; ) P.S. Thanks for doing this, I really enjoyed it! =D
He reminds me of that other cat, Hans Groiner...
Love his work on T.Monk, it sounds way better
Who is Mompeux/Mompoe/Mompox/Mumperoux ??? Need a first name!!!

@@PabloHeldmusic thank you! What song/record were you playing Larry? Amazing stuff

just to mention: love the harmonic idea you attribute in this disucssion to gabriel faure -- so cool. exploited it mercilessly in this composition named after you: aardvark.ucsd.edu/tunes/Closely_held.pdf
