I typed *all* of this from memory, so I certainly have a problem.
There lived a certain man in Russia long ago,
he was big and strong in his eyes a flaming glow.
Most people looked at him with terror and with fear,
but to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear!
He could preach the Bible like a preacher,
full of ecstasy and fire... but he also was the kind of teacher,
      women would desire.
Ra-ra-rasputin, lover of the Russian queen,
there was a cat who really was gone,
      Ra-ra-rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine,
it's such a shame how he carried on............
He ruled the Russian land, and nevermind the Tsar,
but the kozachok he danced really wunderbar.
In all affairs of state, he was the man to please,
but he was real great when he had a girl to squeeze.
For the queen he was no wheeler dealer, though she'd heard the things he'd done,
she believed he was a holy healer, who would heal her son!
Ra-ra-rasputin, lover of the Russian queen,
there was a cat who really was gone,
      Ra-ra-rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine,
it's such a shame how he carried on............
This man has got to go, declared his enemies,
but the ladies begged don't you try and do it please,
No doubt this Rasputin had lots of hidden charms,
though he was a brute they just fell into his arms.
Then one night some men of higher standing,
set a trap, they're not to blame.
Come to visit us they kept demanding, and
      he really came.
Ra-ra-rasputin, lover of the Russian queen,
they put some poison into his wine.
      Ra-ra-rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine,
he drank it all and said I'll be fine............
Ra-ra-rasputin, lover of the Russian queen,
they didn't quit, they wanted his head.
      Ra-ra-rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine,
and so they shot him 'til he was dead............
      Oh, those Russians.

The anti-gay law doesnt' say it is illegal to say "gay people exist". It makes it illegal to teach children "be gay is okay" publicly. I don't understand why Western media just can't stop making up things.

    • @theamici
      @theamici Před 5 lety +7

I agree that the law technically doesn't say you can't tell gays exist, but the law is so vague that it's very difficult to know what you are allowed to say about gays. Following what is outlined here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_gay_propaganda_law the law seems to suggest that one can only talk about gays in condemnation, and that normal conversation about gays where explicit or implicit condemnation does not occur, could be deemed "propaganda" because by acknowledging gay relationships as a state of fact, one thereby opens up the possibility to the audience.
In short: it seems safest to say nothing about gays at all unless it is condemnation, in fear of breaking the law.

    • @konstantingeist3587
      @konstantingeist3587 Před 5 lety +20

Well I remember the media shitstorm about it years ago, everyone was fiercefully discussing it withouot anyone ever trying to actually get a hold of a copy of translation and actually read what is actually written there instead of just parroting "in Russia, they banned gays, in Russia, they banned gays, or so I heard" (including so-called journalists) and when someone actually tried to read the actual text of the law in question and failed to find even any mention of gay people in the text at all, or that they are banned to begin with, they started backpedaling with "well, uhm, uhm, the law is vague right? they still kinda banned gays right? I mean, it's Russia, they're evil?" There's an old meme in Russia from the Stalin times: "I didn't read it, but I condemn it!" in reference to the communist party banning various books without even trying to read what it is about but already accusing the author of anti-Soviet activity based on his political stance, reminds me of that to be honest. And what do we have now? Oh no, they rated Sims 4 as 18+ because of gay couples there, someone call 9/11. This is somehow more important than US ally Saudi Arabia actually executing gay people for being gay.

Here are some of the words in the soviet national anthem translated to English
    United forever
    In friendship and labor
Our mighty republics will ever endure
The great Soviet Union will live through the ages
The dream of a people their fortress secure
    Long live the Soviet motherland
Made by the people’s mighty hand
Long live the people united and freeeeeeee
Strong in a friendship tried by pire,
Long may our crimson flag inspire
Shining in glory for all men to see
    Through days dark and stormy
    Where great Lenin lead us
Our eyes saw the bright sun of freedom above
    And stalin the leader
    With faith in the people
Inspired us to build up the land that we love
    (Chorus)
    We fought for the future
    Destroyed the invader
And brought to our homeland the laurels of flame
Our glory will live in the memory of nations
And all generations will honor her name
    (Chorus) aka the second paragraph
Truly the greatest national anthem ever, I’m not communist or anything or part of a previous soviet state, I’m actually American.

Yeah stereotypes are stupid. Like, I watch World Cup and I await match between Russia and Croatia because I live in Croatia but fell in love with Russia. My family says that I should cheer for my native team because "Russia didn't brought you anything". Bitch please. I learn their language and culture because I want to live there someday...
