I like Brennan's style to introduce characters going about their lives individually first; it gives you an idea of how they are connected to and interact with the world setting.
25:20 It's the other way round. Without spoilers, the Replenishment is an obligation of the city to the land they originally came from (the mountain settlement Toramunda). They travel around the world to accumulate raw magic and they return to land once every 7 years to magically replenish the land. Stuff like bountiful harvest, good health, and a hundred other benefits to the land. The eldritch batteries store the magic and ideally they should be at 100% when they land.
Ahh awesome, thanks for letting me know 🙏🏼
So the reading Laerryn got (0.5) is way more than double what she was looking for (0.025). The output she was reading was 20 times what she had hoped for.
Ahh so it was 0.025, I don't know if he messed up at one point and said 0.25 or if I just misheard him, either which way it makes that whole situation so much worse than I thought 😂
@@Rykage_ Brennan says .025, then .5, that's why I watched with subtitles
Yeah Brennan is a master DM, it's mind blowing sometimes
The bird race has a different name but is basically a reskinned aarakocra. DnD's owner Wizards of the Coast have very complicated trademarks over their various properties. So it is very possible the name "Aarakocra" is protected.
The background, which you pretty much got, was laid out in a brief vid called “exandria: an intimate history” by CR. Its just ten min and Matt Mercer narrates the creation of the world and the history of the gods
I think you can really tell Sam Riegel is Scanlan. Loquacius is sort of a grown up version of our favorite Bard

6:28 yeah aviler was built on top of the tip of a mountain that was ripped off and used to hold the engines for the city so it is technically subterranean even though it's a flying city
These characters are always so fun to rewatch, I'd be curious to find out who your fave is at the start and see if it changes later on!
Just gotta wait to see Marisha's character and I'll try figure which one my favourite is 🔥
Aabria is a DM as well this is true, actually around the time this came out she did a campaign with Dimension20 with Brennan as one of the players called A Court of Fey and Flowers, Lou was also a player in that and honestly him and another player Emily Axford were probably the funniest theyve ever been in that one. Though thats still close to how absolutely hilarious the main Dimension20 cast was in A Starstruck Odyssey.
(Which has it's first episode on youtube if you wanna take a look at that and see if you'd wanna see the rest of Dimension20's A Starstruck Odyseey, as that is the main D20 cast at their peak of comedy, I still quote that one daily lol)
I'm going to second the suggestion for “Exandria: An intimate history." There won't be story spoilers for EXU: Calamity....just big picture world building stuff (a weird analogy but kind of how learning about WW2 in school won't necessarily spoil something like Band of Brothers, even though you know how WW2 ends...if that makes sense)
Yeah I get what you mean, in a truth I was supposed to watch it before I started this episode and I just completely forgot 😂 I’ll put a reminder down to watch it before part 3!
1 hour till the next CR episode is up on CZcams, this is 1 hour long. This is perfect.
2:38 Pretty accurate
11:30 They Are masters of their Crafts! Hence why they are so enjoyable to watch!
16:53 Point of clarification, 0,5 is a lot more than double of 0,025. 20 times larger.
20:32 Yes, that the usual soltices, and Apogee Soltice like this is like Sozins Comet on steroids.
22:36 It's more of a potential power, she's not worried, she's excited.
57:06 He is an Eisfuura, legally distinct from an Aarakocra. (because of publishing and copyrighting legal disdinction, Critical Role avoids using the same terms as Wizards of the Coast)
They are a joy to watch I must say, makes me excited to continue my own campaign 🔥
And yeah that was something I misheard, I thought he said 0.25, I missed a note, which is terrifying 👀
Eisfura is the Exandrian name for aarakocra.
And let me say, eisfura sounds way more badass
0.5 is 20 times larger than 0.025. This apogee solstice will be HUGE.
Yeah I got it so wrong, I thought he said 0.25 😂 it’s so much worse 😂
Yes, Aabria is also a DM. She DM'd the original EXU mini campaign, which was a prequel to Campaign 3.
Ahh I thought I’d saw her in a Exu campaign!
11:02 yeah he does a great job. Even more challenging is that they all know they have a limited episode run to tell the story so he has to give a lot more details upfront to give the audience an idea what’s going on.
The characters have more backstory that we don’t know. At times it feels like we are plopped in the middle of a campaign that was already going on. I guess not too unlike C1 but they could take their time with that one.
It settles down a bit once the main part gets going.
At this point have you finished ep1 or are we pretty much seeing what you’ve seen so far?
You're seeing what I'm seeing so far. I haven't had a chance to get ahead of myself yet, I've been dealing with an Arcane episode that's gotten blocked and it's being real stubborn to unblock 😅 but I'll get there 👌🏼
50:23 Well, we don't really know how common they are in the Age of Arcanum, but appearantly not _that_ rare, seeing as the Golden Scythe feels comfortable treating one like an extra in their show.
As for Vox Machina's time, I'm fairly sure Osysa and Kamaljiori are the last ones.
Love this!
Liked and shared.
Thanks for uploading more of you reacting to this, it really is a joy to not only watch it again but see someone with fresh eyes on it all. I know you're familiar with Sam, Travis and Marisha's voices from Vox Machina, but it's even better when you're familiarising yourself with the other 3.
It’s my pleasure 🙏🏻 glad you’re enjoying them 🔥
I love the guessing, keep them coming you sweet summer child.
heck yeah, you're a wizard bro? Laeryyn inspired the heck out of mine.
Sure am 🔥 probably a terrible decision for my first character 😂 but he’s still alive and kicking for now! I’ll also be playing one when Baldur’s Gate comes out!
I play an aarakocra druid and when druids get to a high enough level they slow down in aging. I think every ten years is equivalent to one.
Would have been a good shout to counteract the aging, but my friends a Druid so she wanted to be something else 😂
