  • Dear plant lovers,
Welcome to a visually spectacular episode that will nourish curious minds and stretch boundless imaginations. In this unique botanical adventure, we tour a top-secret plant garage in Taiwan, where thousands of rare and exotic plants live.
Within these walls, a treasure trove of botanical wonders unfolds. Some of these plants are so rare that their species names have yet to be published. Here, the focus lies on the captivating beauty of gesneriads and limestone plants, thriving in a completely artificial environment.
Prepare to be flabbergasted by the huge array of beautiful rare begonias that greet us at every turn.
Our knowledgeable host, Alvin, graciously invites us into this sanctuary. With passion and expertise, he unveils the stories behind each plant, sharing the regions where they were originally found. Alvin also share bite-sized pieces of care instructions and troubleshooting that we can apply to our own collections.
Our journey begins indoors, where we traverse through unusual plant microclimates that are 100% artificially created. Then, in the second half of the video, we take you outside to admire plants that thrive in the gorgeous, but sometimes unforgiving subtropical climate of Taiwan.
It is crucial to acknowledge that these rare plants are nurtured with utmost devotion, studied meticulously, and propagated responsibly, with a deep commitment to their conservation.
We stand here today, honored and fortunate, to have gained access to this underground operation, and for that, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our gracious host who prefer to remain anonymous.

Impressive collection! The begonias of Vietnam are on a different level! My favorite though was Pavonina from Malaysia. Lanyu is actually the only island in Taiwan where an Austronesian language belonging to the Malayo-Polynesian branch is spoken. The Austronesian languages spoken in the main island of Vietnam are classified in the Formosan branch. The native inhabitants of Lanyu are very closely related to the Ivatan tribe of the Batanes Islands in the Philippines.
