I stopped going to church here in the U.S. because for one it wasn’t very diverse with other ethnic groups besides European Americans and I also learned that Christianity was forced upon my ancestors through their colonizers.

I am all about Jesus and his love for us women in particular; however, the appropriation of the message to oppress, it doesn't align with my feelings. And, why in the US, Blacks are majority Christians? Where are the respect and preservation for the religion of our ancestors? Why is it not practice in here. It does not make sense.

Yes! This right here! I grew up in a all black congregation. When I grew up and was invited to another church , it was majority white. I had so many questions. The building quality? The songs? The way bible study was conducted? The ministry? Etc... it was all so different... and after that experience, I'd hate to say it but I only see my church as a disappointment. We really could do so much better.
I attend service because I love being there. If I ever feel uncomfortable, I will stop going. I also know that you do not have to go into a building to pray to God. You can pray in the privacy of your home and God will listen and answer your prayers. The building we worship in is to socialize with one another and to make friends if possible.
If it was just for socializing, it'd be great, but so many times, churches end up enabling OPPRESSION and feelings of guilt.

And Evangelicals actively oppose and persecute traditional African religions in Brazil. I'm not sure how these "black Evangelicals" see the Blacks practicing the traditional African religions in Brazil. Because it's the same as with any other religions. Because people are drawn to the essential teachings of a religion. It's why any religion especially the ones with a long missionary tradition like Christianity and Buddhism have spread to so many cultures. And in Brazil Christian beliefs and practices and Afro traditions are often syncretized.

I’m a Black American (USA). My family left out almost 20 years ago for the very reasons described in this video. The churches just became recruitment grounds for the RNC and literal KKK dogma from the 1920s and 1960s. The church we used to be a part of literally believe, and in some cases worship, a multimillionaire traveling evangelist who died in the 1960s. They believe that his words, including his recorded sermons and verbal mistakes, are divine sayings from God. It turns out, he had many friends within the KKK and was a strident critic of MLK Jr.

But many people see their religions that they've adopted exactly as part of their identity that colonialism has a history of trying to eliminate so in this regard protecting them would actually be more a part of decolonization. Different religions have spread from place to place, get adopted by different cultures, and become a central part of those cultures. This is a completely normal thing with many different religions all around the world and this process is not the same thing as colonization. So with certain examples of "Abrahamic religions" what is said doesn't make much sense. I'm not aware of the Jewish states that engaged in colonization for Judaism that's implied here but you did have Jews migrate into Africa like the Beta Israel and Lemba. Africa is home to some of the oldest Christian countries in history and the descendants of this legacy are very proud that especially when it was Ethiopia that was the only place in Africa not colonized. When the Portuguese went around colonizing different places they tried subverting the Christian church in Ethiopia to force them into the Roman church. They did the same to our sister Christian church in India as well. And in both countries this caused a major backlash from the native population and part of this was in order to defend Christianity and the church from the actions taken against it by Portuguese colonizers. This is what I find so ironic about the statement here is it says "really decolonize" yet in this history decolonizing exactly meant defending a religion criticized here from colonizers who wanted them to leave.
