I made my own line boring rig. I had my cousin make me a variable speed setup from.a 1.5kw ac 3'phase ac motor I had. I added gearboxes and used it for a rotary welding assembly. Got me thinking and in no time I made a feed mechanism. Was a 16:1 drop down that ran in line. 2 sets of 4:1. From that I added a long tube and fitted a bronze threaded bush. When the bar is rotated it winds down a suitable thread. 16 tpi gives me about .003" feed, 10tpi gives me about .007" feed per rev. It pulls thru centerline of the bar at opposite end of bar drive head. So to feed I stop threaded bar from turning. If I put my battery drill on the thread and drive it fast it acts like a rapid Travers system. Works really well. Two rigs, rotary welding table and line boring kit only owes me about $2500. Paid for them easily. Was using for welding fire system droppers. Double ended malleable iron bush on each end. Could to 66 doubles at $4.00 weld per hour. Did thousands of them! Better money than a lawyer!

Nothing shows a welders sins more than a boring bar taking 10 thous at a time. You learn fast to get good penetration on your beads.

Sucks loseing the job. Still, as a mechanic, and an aspiring machinist, every video you share i learn something. May not be money in it, but there is a little something else in shareing your years of experience and knowledge. So, thank you for that

Hallo sir, how are you doing. What years range that grey clamp was made in. Thanks. Reason I’m asking is that I bought one from eBay seller two days ago it has plywood type box and time beat up sponging material inside. Would like to see if it can be approved by you.

I don't remember when I got the set of gray clamps, I have observed some brands/time frame as being awful, but I would judge the good only on a case by case basis. You need to check yours. : czcams.com/video/Z-XcSvVG3WQ/video.html
