I get this feeling, that pup, doesn't believe you, I wouldn't turn my back on those ribs, brother. Looks like a great cook!
Haha thanks man! They realized I was lying after filming when we pulled some meat off the bones and gave em some!
I've been making ribs on my Pit Barrel for sometime but I'm looking forward to giving it a go on the 980. Those ribs look awesome
Just a MB 1050 guy hoping it would catch fire to further justify my purchase. 😂😂 Looks great man!
Hahaha - thanks for checking it out man! My buddy swears by his MB gravity smokers.
I can see the advantages to them both. I am actually trying to weigh my options between the chargriller and the mb.
I'm torn as well on which one to buy. The Chargriller has a slight advantage in my mind so far, but I'm still undecided. I like how the fire box has the bricks and the price is better too.
The dogs are wondering where is my bite of those ribs? They look fantastic. Cheers, Rob!
Haha thanks Dwayne! They did get some rib meat after filming :)
Brother, that looks like the ideal place to do some bbq. Blessed
Look gr8t. Lol at the dogs. Stay safe & take care of you all. Thanks for sharing eh :))
Thanks - the dogs just wanted to be in the show lol!
Your welcome@@RobsBackyardBBQ
I love my gravity 980, such an awesome grill
Those are some good looking ribs Rob! Great Video! I was waiting to see that dog scale the fence and then see your wife running across the screen with a broom...Lol
Haha.. that would have been awesome!
Instructional and hilarious! Love your animal friends.
Nice Grill !! looks like a lot of fun. Ribs look great enjoy, The dogs will like it .
Thanks Tim!
Those ribs look amazing!! I have been debating getting one of these grills, and may have to do so now.
That what I am talking about.... them dogs are hungry son!!! Their in the back yard, they got to eat also! Damn that rib looks tasty
Thanks man! Haha, they did get some rib meat afterwards :)
Good video with a funny ending. Way to go!
lol - thanks Jon! We did end up giving the dogs some meat off the bones after filming :)
Excellent video on running this smoker. The chicken wants some air time. Lol ribs looking delicious.
Thanks Kory! Those chickens always pipe up when i'm trying to video lol!
Those turned out nice, that grill is going to get a lot of use. 😎👍
Thanks Loaderman! Having fun with it!
Nice cook. Will be looking for smoker soon. That Chargrill looks pretty good.
Thanks for watching Bruno! I love it so far!
Great job on them ribs, my man!🤠
Thanks Tony!
Interesting "happy accident" with the butcher paper vs tinfoil. I've never double wrapped butcher paper like that. I'm wondering if the space between the sheets of paper created some kind of insulating factor. Nice vid and great looking property!
Good looking ribs Rob. Hey, how about you let me come out and teach those pups how to open that gate? Lmao. Thanks for sharing.
haha - no thank you! I like em in the backyard! :)
Nice Rig and Ribs. Right there with you. We have 30 Hens and 2 Roos. The boys start crowing at 4AM.
We have 2 Pitt/Boxers and a Beagle that have Voted themselves Quality Control Inspectors, insisting on a portion of every meal to Review!
Haha Jimmy - pretty similar setup here then! The job never ends, but neither does the joy!
I made these ribs and they turned out amazing. I had a huge problem with my 980 not holding the temp? It shot up to 400 degrees and I couldn't get it back down. My fan flap was open. Have you ran into a problem like this?
Awesome looking bones Rob! I think the dogs would devour it!
Thanks Tom! We did give some meat off the bones to the dogs after filming lol!
I keep debating on getting a charcoal gravity, but then I do ribs, 4” Porterhouse’s or chickens on my Weber kettle with the slow and sear and decide I’m fine. But then I think about doing a brisket and circle back around to wanting a gravity charcoal
Love this video...but, if the top rack isn't being used..why just leave it out to make access easier?
Awesome , vid !! New subscriber here . Been a chargriller fan for over a decade , my smoking pro could use a upgrade , this might be it . Would love to see how well it works with long cooks and as a grill also .
Hey Carlos, thanks for watching! I had this guy at 225 for at least 6 hours for this cook and doing a video on a pork butt tomorrow to test further! :)
Did you have to add more charcoal on this cook ?
two things that are different when watching this video and one cooking ribs on a Masterbuilt 1050 is that you can definitely hear the fan and see the smoke when you open the lid on the MB...no fan noise and no smoke when you open the lid....are you turning off the fan?
How is it powered? - I see the yellow power cord behind the grill but I don't see it connected to grill.
If I put a mat down do you think I can put this on my composite deck
Great video. How does the taste of the ribs compare to ones done on the other smokers you own?
Thanks Daniel! Taste is about the same where I'd use my Kamado since I'm using the same fuel (mostly lump with some wood chunks), but I did like the quality of the finished product better - no swinging temps like I normally get on my offset and sometimes on the kamado.
Those dogs would have mauled you...lol...pretty dogs, Great cook!
Haha, they had just eaten too! They got some rib meat after filming lol.
The chickens make it. Are you getting a good smoke flavor? This look like it's built much better than the MB
Where do the wood chunk go! ?
Can I cook the ribs at a higher temperature?
Looking to buy my first smoker would you recommend this gravity fed or a normal offset?
Looks great.. what area or you from? Tell the chickens to be quiet or your next.. haha
Haha Carl! They love making noise! I'm from Eastern PA - about an hour north of Philly in Upper Bucks County.
Question: How well does the 980 hold temp in windy conditions?
Hey there, thanks for watching! It's pretty windy where I live and I haven't had any issues with it affecting the temps or anything.
I'm thinking about getting one how's the smoke flavor
Nice looking ribs for sure. Think the chickens would like some but I agree the dogs wouldn’t.
haha we gave the dogs some after we stopped filming - thanks for watching man!
I think he'll Like It! LOL
Haha.. the dogs did get some after filming!
Nice video, love those dogs! Also, how was the smoke flavor?
Hey, thanks for watching! It was good - I only put 3 cherry chunks in, but you could tell.
Show doggies some love
Haha - we did Kevin.. thanks for watching man! We pulled some meat off the bones and gave it to the dogs after filming! :)
How were the ribs wrapped in butcher paper? Nice video
We're did you get your 980 I'm having a hell of a time finding one. Ribs look dam good👍
Thanks for watching man! They're only available at Lowes right now. You 'should' be able to go online and either buy one or order one. Where are you located?
@@RobsBackyardBBQ Ca bay area
Lowe’s and they build and deliver for $59. WELL worth it
I originally bought online but they messed up. Delivered boxed and said someone would come to build. No way. Refused it. Went to local Lowe’s. They didn’t carry it. But they said which store did. Went there. Everything was smooth. Seasoning as I write this.
How would you compare this to a Masterbuilt? I was at a competition last weekend and they had a bad flare up on their ribs with the Masterbuilt.
Hey Kevin! Unfortunately, I don't know enough about the Masterbuilt models to be able to compare. Thanks for watching though! I'm sure there will be some head-to-head reviews coming out soon from someone!
Does it cook even across the cook surface, or have you noticed any hot spots?
I don’t own one yet, but from several reviews I’ve read this thing cooks very even across the whole cooker. Pretty impressive actually. Not many smokers are doing that these days.
What is the lowest setting? Wonder if would be good for smoking fish.
Thanks for watching! Lowest is 200F, so too hot for a cold smoke.

Haha Joe! Thanks for watchin man. BTW, the dogs did get some ribs (off the bone) after filming! :)
Is the power cord a male to female dc adapter or is a straight 3 prong plug directly from the grill? I was trying to see if I could hook the grill up to a mobile charger like on the mb gravity
Hey Mars, thanks for checking out the video! It has a 2 prong 'block' at the end of the power cord.. like what you'd see on a laptop charger. I'll try to remember to show it in the next video.
@@RobsBackyardBBQ so something like this wouldn't work to power the grill?
www.amazon.com/dp/B00MF70BPU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Hmm I'm not sure. The 2 prong cord looks just like the one in that picture - a barrel at one end and the boxy plug at the other.
I am making ribs on Saturday
Nice - I may make some more also haha :)
What is the max temp you can get this to? Do you see any issues that the masterbuilt was known to have?
Hey Timothy - thanks for watching! I've only brought it up to 450, but they say you can bring it up to 700F. Also, (and I need to learn more about it) they'd like you to keep the cooker lid open while searing and it 'should' level out around 500F at grate level. I haven't tried that yet.
Oops, forgot to say - I didn't follow the masterbuilt stuff so not sure which issues they had. I'm happy to answer anything though!
The chicken is saying,,,, Please not me !
time you get on a full load of charcoal at 250*? Thanks
For this cook I lit the charcoal, let it sit about 3 minutes, then it took about 5 minutes to hit 225. I did 350 the other day and I believe it took about 9 minutes?
@@RobsBackyardBBQ think he's asking how long the smoker can last at 250F when full
@@whodat9198 oops, yeah you're probably right. I'll test that out!
what do you think of that charcoal
Love it Tyler! Before they sponsored me I tried it out and love how much is left over after cooks.
Is this really set and forget?
Yeah man, it leaves me looking for stuff to do lol
@@RobsBackyardBBQ Does the inner chamber needs to be pre-seasoned?
@@ShopperPlug I sprayed it down with Pam on burn-in.. and maybe every 4-5 cooks to keep things happy
Perhaps the most painful video I have ever watched. Lets move it along quicker. Wow. Just wow!
No Doubt I took a nap when I woke up an hour later the video was still going haha
Start a dog channel.
You don't like my cooking? lol
