  • The relatively unassuming Pilot Custom 823 gets a lot of love for being an understated warrior of a fountain pen. Not only do pen reviewers and bloggers fawn over this pen, accomplished authors like Neil Gaiman swear by using this pen. Why do people love the Custom 823? Is it worth the money compared to other fountain pens of the same caliber? Watch the video to take an in-depth look at this paragon of Pilot Pens.

    I thought my Diamond 580 was something. Than I got the Custom 823 box set shortly after Christmas.
    The nib writes flawlessly!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't write for more than an hour or so a day. But, I do use a Fountain pen everyday for roughly an hour.
    And, can't say enough about the Custom 823. I am so impressed. I cleaned up my Diamond 580. And, it now sits as a display piece on my wall behind my desk.
    I never thought a pen could change my life so much. I used every Ballpoint known to man. And, they all skip. Which is why I converted to Fountain Pens in the first place.
    I don't write volumes daily. Or journal. But, I do write out Budgets, track expenses, document payment postings, etc.....
    So, a good writing tool is essential in my view. And, this Custom 823 is the apeptimy of PERFECTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I like how the pen came out in 2000 at 30k yen and 23 years later it's the same $220. What a great inflation resistant item.

    Very nice video! I'd like to know if during your sketching in this video if you sketched with the pen's nib upside down any? If so, did it produce a medium or thinner width line? Was it consistent? This pen interests me as a sketching pen. Thank you!

      @GoldspotPens  Před 3 lety

      It's been a while but I don't think I tried flipping the nib upside down in sketching with this pen. Results vary from pen to pen, but usually it would result in a drier, thinner line with more feedback.
