  • In 10 years, we've gotten around 20 or so releases of the Dino Megazord, which is more versions than any other Megazord has ever got. So how did that happen?
In what some will be able to use as a buyer's guide, here's the timeline of the last decade of Dino Megazord toys, as well as a reminder of how it all started.
    Teleport along the video:
I've given each release a number to help you find your place in the video - please don't believe this is 100% chronological, or comprehensive to the large amount that have been released!

    Where to buy it
Hasbro's 3 releases will all be available during 2020.
You should still be able to find the Soul of Chogokin GX-72 Daizyujin/Megazord though this too is becoming harder to find.
The other releases will need you to search on the aftermarket.

My favorite zord is without a doubt Dragonzord. Seeing it rise up from the sea like it came straight out of a Godzilla movie never gets old for me even though ironically I'm not much a fan of Godzilla ;;^^
But sticking strictly to MMPR, my megazord of choice is the Ninja Megazord. I like the Shogun Megazord too but where that is slow but packs raw power, Ninja Megazord sticks closer to the idea of the ninja: Swift, agile, and hitting hard and fast cause no matter how strong you are, it don't mean shit if you can't hit your target.

I think one of the reasons this Megazord is so Iconic, is because the desgin is so simple compared to many of the modern zords, its kind of the point of a giant robot that formed from various creature desgins, plus when the five are together, you got a tank before converting to the robot form and that face helps make it more iconic.

I decided I was done buying any more versions of the dinozords after shelling out the money for the SOC versions of Megazord, Dragonzord and Titanus. They were expensive to get a hold of. I really thought the Legacy versions of the Dinozords were going to be the end of it all until the SOC versions were announced and I was amazed how much better and more accurate the SOC versions were. Naturally, I had to have them. I really don't think anyone will be able to top what Tamashii Nations gave us. Since I have both the Legacy and SOC versions of the Dinozords, there's really no need to buy any future versions. At least the Legacy Titanus and Dragonzord can be used for the Legacy version of the Ninja Ultrazord in which the Legacy Falconzord and Ninja Megazord are a part my collection. The only future zords that I can see myself getting from Hasbro is a Lightning Collection version of the Shogun Megazord which may or may not happen in the future.

Really well said, this kind of summarises my thoughts on it too. I don't have the MMPR figuarts, but the way people speak about them I get that every figure set since have been starting at a loss as they've already been bested. At least Hasbro seem to acknowledge this and know the only way to make their own lightning figures appeal is throwing in something totally unique that the figuarts didn't give us - a civilian head. Equally, they probably know SOC is the plinth of Megazord. So whatever they do for a collector's edition will have to offer us something we haven't had before. I have no idea what that could be. Electronics in each Zord...?

I still have my original Dino Megazord from 1993, the only thing I had to buy was its Reprolabels set (along with Dragonzord and Titanos ones) since they did not survive my childhood.
I stopped watching the series around the time the Shogunzords appeared, but I can say without fear this was the best design ever for a Megazord. I saw now and then the newer ones, but none looked as cool as the original. And after they went full CGI on the zords they just got uglier and uglier.

I finally bought the 1993 DX Megazord way back in 2007, and have only ever taken it out of the box twice as I've got no room to properly display it in my den. Conversely, I've got the Soul of Chogokin version stationed in a display cabinet. The chrome has apparently speckled in the years since I purchased it (which I've heard is a common issue), but otherwise I'm quite happy with it.

It’s definitely an iconic design even for Sentai. It was my favorite as a child even though I never had the transforming one. I did however have a piggy bank version I got at a garage sale for a short period of time. As I grew up I came to like some other designs more such as the Thunder Megazord, Mystic Force Megazord, Samurai Megazord, and some of the older Sentai like Jet Icarus. We do keep buying this but there is a market for the other megazords too. We have seen quite a bit of the Thunder Megazord and Ninja Megazord over the last couple years. Samurai Megazord also hand a re-release in both America and Japan two years ago. Plus the super-mini pla gave us Ninja Megazord and Shogun Megazord which both are still and easy find at Barnes and Noble as they sell quite well. Plus Hasbro will be giving us a non-transforming Zeo Megazord.

Great list. Just to explain away some confusing parts about who makes these. There are two entirely separate Bandai’s. Bandai Japan, the original Bandai. And Bandai America who is unaffiliated with Bandai Japan but started out as a US importer of Bandai’s Japanese Toys. Tamashii Nations is a Bandai Japan branding for their upper tier collector lines. In part so they can avoid brand confusion with Bandai America. The Super Robot Chogokin and the Soul of Chogokin are both under the Tamashii Nations sub brand. Bandai America lost the Power Rangers license. Bandai Japan pretty much can not lose the Sentai licensing since they own a huge piece of Toei. The recent Hollywood Movie Megazord looked awful because it was “Sabban’s Power Rangers” and sought to avoid using any Toei licensed Sentai materials or designs. In hindsight an awful plan.

Dino Megazord is best Megazord. When they 'upgraded' to the Thunderzords, it was sad to see the zords visually downgraded to slabs of smooth curves and uninspiring sillohettes. The Dinozords at times... worked indpendently, whereas the Thunderzords pretty much existed to roll in and link together.
It's for that reason the Dino Megazord and DeltaMegazord are my fav's. They are both interesting combined and uncombined, and while the Delta cheats with CGI, they commit to the police action with rolling gunplay and bike chases that just ignites the child within.

When the Legacy Megazord is released here in the Philippines, If I am not mistaken, it was around P5,000-6,000 PHP which if you convert to USD it is around $100USD-120USD. It is very expensive here in the Philippines. Also, the Legacy Thunder Megazord, it was retailed around 10,000 PHP- 15,000 PHP ($200USD-$300USD) if I am not mistaken and that's a lot of money. I am so eager to get one myself but I have no money at the time for I am only a high school student and that kind of money is almost the same as my tuition fee so I feel bad about that. Now that I can afford to purchase one, the availability is impossible and the price is doubled, HAHA I wish I had the money at that time to purchase one.
Hasbro released a lower quality version last 2020 and the price is not reasonable at first time it was released. For 1 pack of zord it cost 1000 PHP ($20USD) which is 3000PHP ($60USD) for the whole set. But now, I purchased it for half the price, 1 set for only 1400 PHP ($28USD) and I think it is a great buy! my son loves it and most of all I feel like I am 10 years old again. HAHA in fact I am the one that opened the package even though it was intended to be a birthday gift for my son. I do love it.
The Hasbro Megazord is not a bad Megazord in my opinion. Coming from a non collector, it is a great buy. It brings nostalgia. I can't complain with the price I paid however there is still a lot more to improve for the product specially the hollowness and the lack of stickers. I have contacted a local dealer hear in the philippines for a decal set which cost 250PHP ($5USD), I think it is almost the same as BD 15 decals and it does bring out the best in the megazord. It is now detailed with the sticker set.

Thanks Ian, that's great to know. Ok if it has a box, the difference is shiny gold foil where it says 'Megazord' and they removed the 'Power Rangers 20' logo.
If it's just the toy you're buying loose, the sword is the thing that changed, not the hands, so just check that it fits all the way. This won't actually help you ensure you're getting a 2015 megazord though, it could still be a 2013. I don't think there's an easy way to tell them apart unfortunatley because they're structurally unchanged. Even the knees which I do believe are stronger on the V2, there's nothing that looks any different to the eye. Maybe it's a bit like the sword and they just changed something really small...
Anyway hopefully you can find a sealed in box 2015 version! I think most people value 2013 more highly because it was the anniversary edition. Little do they know...

Hasbro's Legacy Megazord was actually pretty cool. Decently poseable with wasite leg and arm articulation, only missing the head. Paint apps are very sparce but the detailing is great so it can easily be painted into something to rival SOC. The Legacy Zords were also highly poseable and show accurate. great for displaying on their own against monsters or even teaming up with the Legacy Dragon Zord and still being in proportion. But it looks like the newest one from Hasbro Lightning collection ascension project looks to easily rival SOC at a local mass release pricepoint. Wonder if the Dragonzord and Titanus might follow
