- The Los Angeles Philharmonic is celebrating the 10th birthday of "Hurricane Mama," a stunning 6,134-piece pipe organ that has become Walt Disney Concert Hall's most prized possession.
The organ was designed by architect Frank Gehry and organ builder Manuel J. Rosales, and presented as a gift to the County of Los Angeles from the Toyota Motor Corporation. After meticulous fine tuning and a flawless design, the organ was finally unveiled and completed in 2004, a year after the opening of the hall.
In this segment of "SoCal Connected," join Val Zavala as she gets an up close and personal look inside the Disney Concert Hall and the Organ Blower Room.

I'm literally one of a handful of organists from South Africa who have played the Disney hall pipe organ
Very unique instrument. Just stumbled on it yesterday. Didn't even imagine you could arrange pipes like this.It is a Work Of Art.
Wow. What a work of art. Charming interviewer.
I got to meet both of those individuals, play for them, and play that organ and sign the organ box ( as is per tradition for everyone who plays it). It's a wonderful instrument and they are both outstanding musicians and gave great feedback after I played!
On dirait que le pupitre vient de France (inscriptions en français sur les boutons et tirettes). Is n't ? Quant au reste (tuyaux, sommier), je ne sais.
What does the mobile keyboard use? Wifi? Bluetooth?
They usually use a fiber optic cable for data. Plus another heavier cable for the power.
I would like to buy one for my house, like Mr. Wilson of "Dennis the Menace" fame did. Where can I purchase it?
some or all of the links above no longer work.
Why do people keep saying "Geary" when speaking of the famous architect Frank Gehry?
