I was there, Eugene-Springfield was very Dead Friendly. Shows were always great in Autzen, and the late night at WOW Hall after the Dead. Great Memories-thank you.
Boy do I miss "Ice cold Budweisers and hot grilled chesses". Never drank Bud but man do I miss the Sprooking at Shakedown St. Saw 2 shows in 93 here. 2pm shows. Camping allowed. Couple of slices of mushroom pie for the shows and took my dose at about 8pm after the first show. Didn't get to sleep that night until the morning came around (and a case of Sierra Nevada Porters). Watched a band called "Double Dose" play Mystery Train in the parking lot at about 3am in between balloons, probably. Jerry has an acoustic sound for Help On The Way opening one of the second sets. Very tasty, indeed.
I remember being at a show there once in the 90's and the whole crowd was doing the wave around inside the stadium and after about the 4th pass around one guy stood up and screamed STOP! NO MORE! Everyone on that side of the stadium busted out laughing, this guy looked higher than anyone in the place (if that's posible
I'm not dosed now and I'm having major difficulty trying to follow this. I take it they had no tickets and this is the parking lot trip. Or lack of. I thought it was going to be about seeing the Dead! That's why I always went (with tickets)!!!💕💀⚡🐢🌹🍄🌠❤️(~);}
@@janeeckardt6881 To me it was not just about seeing the Dead but also having a mythic adventure. Good thing Jerry always sided with open-endedness and freedom. I remember giving away tickets after experiencing a particularly mind blowing show and being mentally drained and I remember having tickets given to me when I was having a streak of bad luck. The Grateful Dead was more than just a band IMHO. It was a travelling community among many other things(Symbol of Tribal Unity). I believe even penniless street urchins deserved to experience shows and the scene if they so desired. In addition I believe that no single person(even Jerry, and he has said as much in interviews) can define what The Grateful Dead was objectively, only subjectively. That is part of what made it so powerful.
@@janeeckardt6881 The parable of the blind men and an elephant originated in the ancient Indian subcontinent, from where it has been widely diffused. It is a story of a group of blind men who have never come across an elephant before and who learn and conceptualize what the elephant is like by touching it. Each blind man feels a different part of the elephant's body, but only one part, such as the side or the tusk. They then describe the elephant based on their limited experience and their descriptions of the elephant are different from each other. In some versions, they come to suspect that the other person is dishonest and they come to blows. The moral of the parable is that humans have a tendency to claim absolute truth based on their limited, subjective experience as they ignore other people's limited, subjective experiences which may be equally true.
Are you honestly complaining about this? I'm sure it's not hard to find great sounding audio of the whole show if you want to hear it. This is about a moment in time and seeing old friends and stuff like that. You are aware that people at events take pictures and video of themselves hanging out with friends, right? I'm near the beginning, but this could be before the show. In your other post you seem to have inferred that these people all don't have tickets and this is during the show. Maybe true, I haven't watched the whole thing yet. But it kinda seemed like you were saying they are scumbags for going without tickets
@@MarvinMonroe in all fairness, that mass influx of ticketless heads is apparently what killed the scene. However, Im not saying there wasnt a good percentage of heads going to shows without tickets who really were chasing the music and not the scene...✌
Eugene was so fun for shows. I was there in 1990, 1993 and 1994.
That's really cool that u caught jack doing what he did best in his natural element.

Autzen Stadium one of the best places to ever host a show
