Valley of Tears - partial pre-ride of the 2024

- Pre-ride of the 77 mile version of the 2024 Valley of Tears gravel race, the most accurate name in #gravel. People will cry. It rained a few days before my ride, so the roads around Turkey were still a little wet, the roads up on the plain around South Plains were still a little muddy. With enough rain - both the valley and the plains section is likely to turn into an impassable mud pit. Without rain - the sandy valley roads will turn into impassable powder. Valley of Tears :)

Beautiful. It looks like a mildly challenging course. Hopefully no skunks on race day.
Yeah, hopefully with all those riders on the course the skunks will take the day off :)
Tire recommendations? Wet? Dry?
Wish I’d seen this before the race and gone up in tire size to float over that sand.
Ha, I wish I'd seen all the comments before the race :) I run a somewhat skinny 42c in the front, but I've got a fat 50c in the back - and at 6'4" I probably have 15 lbs "advantage" over an average skinny gravel cyclist, so the momentum allows me to just plow through the sand pits. I hope you enjoyed the race anyway :)
what size tires are you running? I run 33s on gravel but wondering if i should size up for the sandy terrain.

@@wojtek.felendzer I ended up going with 38s, did pretty good considering the amount of sand (thank you cyclocross lol) . I think the rain helped a bit on other sections.
