I'm from Brazil and at the time was about 16 to 17 . That was when I first heard my true guitar hero , didn't speak a word in english . I don't know if the pot touched a part of my brain or something, was hooked . When got the album and saw him , told my friend. Hendrix, Eric are Kids next to that strange man. Save some money and bought this album, not cheap . Jonh Winter live Rick Derringer played in that concert. Months later my girl gave me a puppy dog, How you gonna call him, Winter . 4 years later went to live in L A . One sunday looking at the paper saw J Winter live at The Troubador. Got to see the man , was way better than I thought. Got married and moved to D C , he came to town. Sure i was there . Finally in Rio while spending my time , got to see him again. Left almost crying, seeing him the é entire concert on a wheelchair was heavy. He left us a year and a half later. RIP my hero, you are in good company

I used to sneak into clubs as a teenager when he played with this configuration starting in 1985. The first time was this dive biker bar in Spring Valley NY, an older boyfriend came with me. I was blown away. I leaned right up against the stage, which was not as loud as a few steps behind thankfully, and watched him play 5 feet in front of me.
I was stunned. I knew right at that moment this was the greatest guitar playing of this style I would ever see. My friends were all into boy bands at the time and they couldn't get it. I am so glad I saw him perform, probably 5-6 times total. But that first time in a tiny club was incredible, it was like a personal concert in a living room. Memory Eternal, Johnny.

He did what he loved to do until the end .
Thank You Johnny for Your Incredible Talent and Joy of Playing Guitar 🙏👌😊☮️❤️❤️❤️❤️

When I first heard Johnny doing this here on u-tube I keep bringing this 1984 and the other one he did live in a Europe concert show, and I jam with my harmonica with my extra speakers turned up and well He's my main rock god guitarist. I feel there will never be another one with His soul and rockin blues energy to put out such incredible love songs like he did. We'll keep tuning his songs out there Yea.

round this time 1984 when he was in "Tweed Head's Gold Coast Australia",,in a very large Hall,,with waitress serving beers while he Played ,,in front of like only 150 people.
You could walk around the Hall with a Beer while he played,in front of you,the sound, acoustics of the place was like an opera hall,,totally unbelievable,,experience,,,epic.
Johnny was awesome,,he was almost heavy rock,,best concert ever...

I don't know why he's so underrated. Here in Italy I've never heard of him on the TV, NEVER.

That's a real shame. Here in America, at least in music circles, he is a highly regarded and respected guitarist. He doesn't have the recognition of a Hendrix, Beck or Page, but is still pretty well known to most.

I knew them when we were kids and went to school with him and Edgar. There was a black nite club in Beaumont, BB King let Johnny on stage to play when he was about 16, we all would go to the Big Oaks in Vinton, Louisiana to hear him and sometimes he and Edgar would ride with us, he was a true student of the Blues, a Texas Style gunslinger...and he was at Woodstock, he played with all the Blues Greats, from Muddy on down the line, and every Rocker know to man. He had a coke bottle top cut off to play slide. RIP. JW.
