    I had to go back and check out your first video. Obviously it’s not like most people’s first video. You must be an artist already and not learning just now. Thank you for sharing your techniques, they will help us all improve. The cigarette ad is perfect for pushing the time period of the building or layout back in time. Nowadays you’re not even allowed to advertise cigarettes anymore.

    Looks good. I have done smaller signs with water and a sharp blade. I turn the sign upside down, add some water, and peel off the back side of the paper by scraping from one edge towards the center. The paper rolls off like a small blanket being rolled up. Works great. Look forward to seeing more videos.

    Good video as always Jason and interesting to go right back to the beginning of the channel. Your weathering back then seems a wee bit harsher, compared to how you work now.
    I hadn't realised that Tichy windows came with pre-cut glass; must have a look and see if they're available anywhere in Scotland. Even for something so small and thin, I'm sure U.S. postage will make importing them pretty pricey.😁

    Just had another thought (wow, I'm on a roll!) when you have just stuck the image onto the brick, how about then painting a generous layer of water over the top to saturate the image so it will then sink into the contours of the brickwork underneath? But, just thought, if it's printed on bubblejet printer, which is waterbased ink, may smudge the print? Worth a try though....

  • @DCC-DUDE
    @DCC-DUDE Před 5 lety

    Great how to Jason! I came across a technique of printing on tissue paper (not toilet paper) using an ink jet printer. Tape the tissue to a regular sheet of paper and print your picture. Cut out and white glue to structure. Give it a try, it's really cool!

  • @44eyecandi
    @44eyecandi Před 5 lety +1

    Fab. Just a thought, would it be better to print out onto 80 or even 60gsm thin paper first, save all the hassle of sanding it thin?

  • @robertweldon7909
    @robertweldon7909 Před 4 lety +2

    I've seen a method where a piece of tissue paper is taped to a printer sheet and then the image is printed on the tissue. Because the tissue is so thin, when it is applied to the structure, etc, it tends to sink into the structures texture, but still retain a good image. This is a great method though. Adobe Illustrator is also a great program for resizing because is is a vector based program unlike Photo Shop, it being a pixel based program and the image can become rather grainy if enlarged to far Also you can create some real cool signs etc. too. ;-)

    Thanks Jason. Very helpful and other than a few focusing/framing issues the quality was good. Keep up the good work! Are you going to hit this with any clear coat to seal it? Or will that destroy
    the pastels?

    • @JasonJensenTrains
      @JasonJensenTrains  Před 5 lety

      Thank you!!! No clear coat, as you mentioned, it makes the pastel chalk disappear.

  • @srigelhof
    @srigelhof Před 5 lety

    I like the effect you use with the paper printed signs Jason. I wonder if using a plastic burnisher would help with adhering the sign to the brick. It might also give the impression of the sign as if it was painted directly on the brick. Looking forward to learning your other techniques.

  • @stevenallen9613

    Jason, really enjoyed the video. Keep them coming. One suggestion if you don't have a "camera" man or woman, can you hook the camera to your computer or a laptop so you can see what the camera sees. I have done that some years ago with an old video camera.

  • @djstrains
    @djstrains Před 5 lety +1

    do you seal it with a clear spray or dullcote?

    • @JasonJensenTrains
      @JasonJensenTrains  Před 5 lety +1

      I do not clear it , because once it's done and placed on the layout, I wont be handling it.

    • @djstrains
      @djstrains Před 5 lety +1

      I recently sprayed dullcote on a finished building and got a lot of white residue on some areas. Maybe I went to heavy on it? On chalk weathered areas, the dullcote seemed to lighten my weathering too much to where I almost had to redo it.

    • @TrainsandDioramas
      @TrainsandDioramas Před 5 lety +3

      @@djstrains It happened to me in the past, and what I realized after a few mistakes is that it happens for two reasons - when the spray doesn't hit the surface at right velocity, or when the liquid in the spray is not mixed properly. I shake my spray well before applying now. Also, I always make sure that the nozzle is clean. I then test fire at a piece of cardboard to see that it's not leaving any spots or residue before using it on the actual piece. I spray from a distance of about 10-14 inches depending on the spray I use.

    It seems like it would be best to use vector graphics for these signs. Vector graphics retain all of the detail no matter how large or small they have been sized to.
