Céline Condorelli, our 2023 Artist in Residence, wants you to experience art differently. Watch as she talks about her experience of working at the Gallery over the last year and her exhibition 'Pentimenti: The Corrections'.
Céline Condorelli’s work addresses the boundaries between public and private, art and function, work and leisure, in order to reimagine what culture and society can be, and the role of artists within them. Often using forms of architecture, design, or sculptural objects, Condorelli’s installations make interventions to the way that people navigate or use a space, whether that is in the context of a museum or gallery, or a children’s playground, a public garden or an artist’s studio.

The National Gallery houses the national collection of paintings in the Western European tradition from the 13th to the 19th centuries. The museum is free of charge and open 361 days per year, daily between 10.00 am - 6.00 pm and on Fridays between 10.00 am - 9.00 pm.

Just put in more seats. The National Gallery isn't too bad for seating, but the more the merrier. Some other art galleries are quite sparse. To quote Alan Bennett (?) "art is hard on the feet".

It is obvious that our way of interacting in a museum is a "construct", just like our way of interacting on any social setting (school, restaurant, concert, you name it). I can't help but find this all a bit shallow, so much of modern art is so focused on revealing constructs, finding new ways of loking at things... and when it works it surely is life changing but you can't do it every day. Maybe there are just not that many interesting ways to look at a museum

I liked a couple of your additions, but not the rug. The rug is lovely to look at but I don't like the "flop house" aspect to it. On a public beach, it's okay. In a museum of fine arts, having people lying around isn't appealing.
