i agree, the concepts and genres that stray kids play around with always seen somewhat rebellious, new, and experimental. i just want to clarify, in no way am i saying that other groups are bad or aren’t as good. stray kids really aren’t afraid to try new things and be different, after all, they have more creative freedom as their own producers. they’re a kpop group of course, but sometimes i feel that they transcend that typical image of an idol group and it’s so refreshing to see.
I agree. All their beats, backdrop, tempo and instrumentals are crazy insane. They would just straight up qualify for being producers. However, I’m disappointed in their melodies and soundtrack itself. They aren’t cut out in that category. I know they’re talented and all in singing, rapping and dancing but they can’t produce a catchy melodies or sound that go well with their instrumentals. It’s always the polar opposite. Like in Double knot, Side effects and this one Back door. It’s either the empty chorus or the messed up rhythm or a sudden switch from upbeat explosive tempo to slow melo sound or just some random unsuitable bridge jummed up in there. Everytime I hear them, feel like it’s always a waste of beats. They should’ve done better but clearly they couldn’t. So they may be excellent in producing, composing and songwriting, they ain’t it when it comes to creating soundtracks. I understand they’re being experimental with their songs but they can’t go too experimental otherwise it would be too strange sounding for the new audience let alone just being a different in music taste. They need to incorporate both conventional style and experimental techniques in producing. Cuz when it only has a good instrumentals but lacks a chorus or a nice drop, it’s far from becoming an overall good song. At this point, they would better off being producers and a group that produce great beats for other big artists who can create a better soundtrack and utilize it in a better way like a “K-produce” group not as a “Kpop” group

Maria Xian you know a song is not bad just because it isn’t catchy that’s not how it works I think you are just someone whose taste is not very experimental, for me for example side effects is not just a mess if you really listen to it. I think it’s just preferences..

Their many exceptional skills/talents that ALREADY set them apart from others this early on - meh, right? Nope - their songs melodic range too much variety for some (you?), so they should just pack it in and get into production... for others. Brilliant. SARCASM aside - it matters little if this or any previous songs float your boat/taste. There's no doubt 3racha will be (if not already) approached by other artists for production or collabs, but there are just 24 hours in a day. It's a no-brainer and they have their hands full. There is an iconic business book called "The Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell, you might want to read it. This album may very well be Stray Kids' "Tipping Point" because of all the strengths even you acknowledge, yet the best recommendation is to settle on production? For others? Yeessh...
In the coming years, as with older groups, members will seek out other skills and continue to evolve and imprint on future songs in ways few can foreshadow, even they, themselves. That's the beauty of it - there are more songs to be written, some completely different as if by a different artist and by other SK members, in the future. Constant change is the only guaranteed thing and a way to stay relevant. SKs are 'newborns' in view of the industry. For those who've already made up their minds abut SK's permanent strengths/weaknesses, there is nothing to see/hear there. Plenty others on genre (K-pop) menu to pick from and as the saying goes about opinions ... well, you know the rest. Writing off their CURRENT song styles as end-all sounds bizarre. SK more than deserve and should continue to benefit from their combined talents/skillset and should not forfeit their opportunities to other artists' benefit because there is NO reason to. There will always be listeners who only like one era, one song, one video. I don't know your demographic or music industry experience, but your tone's definitive absolutist recommendation hints at a few things. When it comes to taking one's own opinion too seriously, your picture should be right next to the definition. As far as accuracy of assessment, (to quote you) this"ain't it". (I'm not a Stay, but coud be considered a multi, listened to K-pop since Gen 1 and don't claim to be an expert on the genre as many others are, but have ears, perfect pitch, a wallet and a opinion). I'm honestly stunned by unfiltered extent of you patronizing and dismissive tone that goes well beyond an op-ed by someone who doesn' like a particuar aspect of their music. It's remarkable how you managed to define and reduce an enormous amount of proven effort/talent/potential into a 'block of verbal concrete toumbstone', dropped with skill of a novice crane operator. Everyone's entitled to an opinion so not a big deal there of course, and YT is as good a place to express it as any. In fact, I'm more respectful of any fandom/random listener who DOESN'T promote/stream/praise a track just because of whose it is vs. its own merit. What prompted this (I know I know 🙄, too long) comment and why I found yours bothersome was how some (thankfully few, case in point) listeners take a very fresh/new group, praise some things they like already and peg the group, trapping it in a category/comeback era for ever.
In SK case, your best practices advice - to produce for others, 'cause you know, that's all they are good for'. With this logic, 70% of best music (looking retroactively at the music industry) would not exist, multiple comebacks wouldn't either and (without mentioning any names) a small berated/dismissed Idol group from a tiny starving agency wouldn't be raking in (est) 5% of SoKo's GDP. SK is just starting out, yet in your expert opinion they've found their niche and that's that, so no sense wasting their effort, just focus on what's deemed to be their strength already vs admiring success in that/those areas already, giving these newbies a chance to go through the natural growth process. I don't think that, THANKFULLY, many share your perspective and, more accurately, it won't age well. What is already clear is that SK are trying out new things and not averse to the best kind of change, the type that isn't motivated by external pressure but on their own terms. To follow your dismissive recommendation would be to cut off what makes them special, experimenting and not completely at the mercy of peer pressure for a few extra fans. Real ones will give them a chance to grow and build on their own unique concept.
🔪To put simply, if fusion cuisine and their vision is not to an individual taste (having acknowledged that ingredients are fresh, recipes - innovative and cooks, skilled), but the menu doesn't suit/not traditional enough, a patron doesn't tell a restaurant to start cooking another place's dishes or tell a chef to work elsewhere as line cook. From an "aerial view" (i.e. reactions/views), the line to SK's 'restaurant' is backing up traffic, around the block and reservations booked for months ahead. 😎❣🥗🥣🔪🥢🍲🍝🍤🥮🍜 Enough reason for this customer to STAY🍸.

I’m so excited I can hardly contain myself, I really don’t know where to start O.O because OMG their title track Back Door of their new repackaged album ‘IN LIFE’ which they explained during their youtube livestream yesterday and me being attacked from so many directions from all of them especially my biases ... Why they gotta open like that? Everytime I think their next song will somehow connect to their previous ones, it always seems to change into another BOP upbeat ruff with new unique tempo kind of remind me abit of their Clè album series sort of like a “Back Door” to the jungle city #StrayKids_BackDoor
