  • The procedure is definitely risky, but the risk is in the range of 5-10%. But, since liver transplant is carried out only in very sick patients who would not be able to survive for more than a year without the transplant, the benefits far outweight the risks, as the transplants afford survival rate of 90 to 95 percent. The complications can be grouped into 3 different sets- technical complications which are related to the stitching of the vessels, complications arising due to rejection which occurs in about 20% to 30% of the cases, and lastly, complications due to infections which are quite serious and can be life-threatening.
Watch this video talk by Dr Sanjay Govil of Manipal Hospital who says about Is liver transplant a risky procedure? What are possible complications after liver transplant?

I still have problems, they don't talk about it. I know my kidneys were injured, I was in a coma over a month following surgery, due to reaction to antirejection medication. I died, they brought me back. I know I died, I remember every detail, I as one of my surgeon s, later as I was still in the hospital 2 1/2 months, she told me it happened, apologized. Said no one ever had memories but it happened as I explained it. She can in my room along not with the team..each morning. Helped me with my breakfast, I shook so badly...it's been a long recovery, but I'm doing better than I've felt in so very long...but still go to Duke every 6 weeks, and labs ever 2 weeks...

I am a living donor liver transplant (LDLT) donor for my father and we had gone through surgery in September 2012. From 2012 to 2016, I was living very normal and also play outdoor sports (cricket) occasionally.
In July 2016, I lift about 35Kg (suitcase) weight and move this from the ground floor to the third floor of the building with stairs. From that time, I feel uncomfortable or little pain in my abdomen (around the area of transplant surgery cut). If I walk about 20 minutes, stay in a sitting or standing position for more than one hour then again I feel pain or uncomforted in my abdomen. I am using an abdominal support belt since that time but the pain is not getting better from 2016.
I consult many times with physical therapist/orthopedics, but they say it's nothing but only muscular strain.
Does It happen with any liver donor/recipient?
What did they find its solution?
    Any valuable suggestions? Thank you

please learn to be compassionate and human when you post videos about survival chances as these are very emotional issues, could be a business for doctors.
I hope you don't talk such insensitively with patients of terminal illness in your physical interaction . Every person has to face his or her own day.
