LYRICS (BY EAR)
About 3 times a night,
you come out, to smoke.
I buy a pack so I can come too.
I don't like the smell.
And it's hard not to choke.
But it's worth it to spend time with you.
We mostly compare stories
of the exes we've had
and all the pain
that they put us through
and you'd always claim,
for yourself, all the blame.
"How could anyone ever be in love with you?"
Well, I am.
I'm here; and I'm here every night.
I am.
I'm a good guy; sincere and polite.
I know you've got history
you'd like to rewrite,
But I still think that's who you deserve.
As we shared in these breaks,
you've become less withdrawn
and I began to show you how I feel.
But, I never ever pushed you to move on.
You said you needed time to heal.
But then, you jumped right in with some hard headed flirt
does everything I chose not to do.
He's cocky, he's fake, he's a giant mistake.
He's not the guy for you.
But I am, cause I'd faithfully be there for you.
I am
I get you cause I've been hurt too.
And when I say I care for you, it's actually true
and I still think that's who you deserve.
I had it mapped out
Oh yes, I had a plan.
I'd be here each night to show you
I am your man.
Waiting was all that I needed to do
I knew if I were patient,
you'd realize it too!
Now you've got your man
So the plan's going fine.
Except for the fact, that his name isn't mine.
Andre Salgado, what a great guy, they say.
I watch his dreams come true and watch mine slip away!
You knew how I felt.
I loved you, you knew.
And now, you want me to be happy for you.
Well, I am.
That should have been the first thing I said.
But, I am.
I'm so glad you're pushing ahead.
It's just that I wish you were with me instead.
But I hope he gives you
love that's long overdue,
Because I still think that's who you deserve.
That one dislike is Andre Salgado
Levi Heichou I love you for making me laugh in the midst of my tears, thank you!
aight now lets go default dance on his grave

Joshua, this is a really good song! George brought me here but I definitely left with a subscription to you and an excitement for your new show you are releasing!
This is so sweet. At first I was starting to feel uncomfortable since it was so nice guy-ish, but then the end of the song made those feelings completely disappear. Also George is just too amazing to ever be a nice guy!
you best know how i can connect this to boyf riends and stagedorks
because im trash and probs actually might finish something for once
Probably stagedorks because of Jake and the halloween party.
3:02 that sounded so cool, I dont know any singing or vocal terms, but I don't need to know any to know that sounded really amazing.
That sounds like a keychange and a crescendo (get louder)
More specifically, it was a bit of "modal mixture," which is the use of a chord/note from a different key, here the flattened sixth from the parallel minor.
in the description, it mentions a restaurant called “wait for it”
lIFE DOESN’T DISCRIMINATE
BETWEEN THE SINNERS AND THE SAINTS-
WAIT FOR IT!
AND IT TAKES AND IT TAKES
WE RISE AND WE FALL AND WE BREAK AND WE MAKE OUR MISTAKES
I'M GONNA WAIT FOR IT! (is it right? XD)
I'm sobbing not okay. Beautiful. But not okay!
I love how George 'gets in character' when he sings. As for the song, omg this is so relateable. Been there, done that....
This made me legit cry! Goddamit whoever hurt my precious baby
This is absolutely beautiful. The lyrics are amazing and George is so talented! ❤️❤️
No joke but literally the first chords start playing and I’m already ready to cry like wtf I don’t even know what the song is about
Okay but where's the boyf riends fanfic
IM SOBBING
I'M CRYING.
Why isn't this on Spotify?!? It's amazing!
Looking into it! Hopefully it'll be up in the next couple weeks!

Wow this gave me a good morning cry. Thanks, Joshua. Thanks, George.
Can't love this enough. Josh is a wonderful song-writer (and great friend and co-worker!)
Dude this made me cry
I desperately NEED the sheet music. I will buy it asap
Haha well I’m hopelessly crushed!
ive come back to this video for four years now and im still upset its not on spotify yet. Or any version
And you have every right to be upset! I am considering putting an album together that could be released on Spotify that would potentially include a studio version of this song performed by George. I'm hoping to have that released this year!
@@stackedharmony omg pls do!! that'd be amazing. seriously this songs beautiful... and george's voice 👌🏻
That was beautiful
AMAZING AS ALWAYS
I fucking cried so hard wtf please
this reminds me of Nick and Jess from New Girl :(
this sounds beautiful at 3:00
Why am I crying
I'm balling my eyes out
im not crying you are
huh? i'm not thinking about dan and phil and crying why did you think that?
Omg yes
at first it was sweet. then it got kinda incel. and then it was sweet again
Oh Billy Brown Kinda wot
incel="involuntary celibate"
it's a term certain Nice Guys™ use on reddit, meaning they wanna get laid but no girls want them
(Nice Guys™ meaning guys that think being a decent person earns them sex, and if a girl friend doesn't want to be their girlfriend, she's being withholding and they're "stuck in the friend zone")
Jensen Caldwell ey thanks dude I steer clear of that reddit shite aha
Stephanie sorry i kinda ignored this i didnt know how to explain it 😅
Awinn H.W. Ah gotcha you’re good fam didn’t seem rude or anything at all
im crying no
WHY DOES GEORGE ALWAYS SING SUCH SAD SONGS WTF
does anyone know when the musical will be officially out?? :0
looks like we'll just have to,,,,, wait for it
Jasmine Funderburk goddammit 😂
I just saw the "new" Be More Chill musical and its amazing plus I met George!
IM CRYING SO MUCH ALSO PLEASE EXPLAIN THE 1 DISLIKE
Well i'm sad now...
Michael to Jeremy and Andre is Christine
WHY IS THERE ALWAYS ONE PERSON THAT DISLIKES?! SO NOT COOL
Okay I thought this was like extremely "nice guy" ish.
But now I kinda see how some things are against that.... Like, apparently the character actually told them how he feels. But they came out of a bad relationship and needed time.
basically just keeping the protagonist as a backup as they never told them no. They KNEW how the protagonist felt. They just didn't tell them how they felt at all until a better alternative came around.
But the MC still was the bigger person in the end and wasn't bitter.
Yeah, the bitterness in the song had me worried and I was getting some incel vibes when he was singing about the other guys, but the ending turned it all around! It was great!
Listen....Don't get me wrong I love Be more Chill to death it's an amazing Musical but....I feel it's a shame any song George or any of that cast for that matter sing gets compared to be more chill, I feel sometimes these songs convey so much more story than people give credit for? Idk maybe I'm just making a big fuss out of nothing
what is this from
It's from a musical I never finished about people who work in a restaurant. I might finish it.... Someday.....
@@stackedharmony please finish it ‼️

This was not suppose to hit so close to home
It's totally fine to have unrequited love. But to frame it from the perspective of 'she only dates assholes, why won't she date such a good guy like me' is textbook toxic nice guy. I don't know a single woman who has not had the miserable experience of some guy butthurt because he thinks kindness/friendship needs to be rewarded with sex. So this song just comes across as creepy to me.
P.S.-Women can be 'toxic nice guys' too. The Taylor Swift song 'You belong with Me' is that. People are allowed to just not be attracted to you, and do not deserve to be guilt tripped or resented for that.
I think you really hit the nail on the head and the character's response in this song is definitely problematic. However, I would argue what separates this song from "You Belong With Me" is what often separates musical theatre songs from pop songs - namely, whether or not the singer ends the song in a different place then where they began it. In this song, the singer is wrestling with their feelings of disappointment but is inappropriately finding someone to blame. By the end of the song, however, he's realized that his thinking isn't fair and blesses his friend's new relationship.
"Now you want me to be happy for you? Well, I am, and that should've been the first thing I said."
I think we can both celebrate that this song is a lot less relevant today than it was ten years ago when I wrote it! More and more men are recognizing that they aren't entitled to someone's affection, and they can't "earn it" by behaving the right way.
