despite how much growth and evolution there's been across RFF's career there's something instantly recognizable and totally undeniable across it all
I first actually properly heard this song - quite literally at the realization of an ending of my 5 yr relationship. I had this blasting through my headphones as I was walking down a path near the beach, crying, walking by people. For me this song felt like a barrage of chaos entering my reality. With realities crashing down, new ones forming into existence, rubble, emotions, thoughts feelings all over the place bubbling around in the chaos as my mind has no idea where to go. All these beautiful things I took for granted just bubbling around me - fragmented. Feelings of hope. Confusion. Sadness. Despair. Optimism. Change - all in one song and moment. That's how this song kinda feels to me/felt to me. Thanks for being a part of my journey :)
You will forget the person, but not the song.
And each time you come back to the song, it will remind you that you've forgotten the person...

There’s this whole sound which incorporates all the notable parts of classic trance / progressive / garage / 2 step and lots of artists are players in the field; Jamie XX, Overmono, Hugo Massien, Ross From Friends, Bonobo, Leon Vynehall, Indian Wells, Joy O, Moderat, Aparde, Tourist, Ital Tek, Four Tet, Rival Consoles, Vessels, Bicep etc… The lines get blurred but essentially it’s driven through emotive melody and nostalgic repetition… the question is WhAt GeNrE iS tHiS?

Labels like ‘future’ and ‘new’ are short sighted, as ‘new’ isn’t new for very long. Look at ‘new wave’ - a genre from the 1980s that pre-dates shoegaze and indie. ‘Nu-style’ gabber that is at this point mainstream hardcore since the late 1990s… I remember when the ‘cool kids’ in music journo world were labelling Mosca as ‘future garage’ when Bax came out in 2011, and Maribou State when they started dropping remixes in 2012… if that was future garage then, this muct be post-future-garage revival by now! 🤓
