    What a wild ride man. I think most people thought this whole thing would've been done years ago but it's crazy seeing just how far they stretched this debacle out. I'll be sad when it's finally dead but honestly thanks to both Pat & Ian, the entertainment you brought to all of us with this trainwreck has been wonderful 🙏 Also Tommy should really be thanking you. Why do people think you can crowd fund a video game console? These are devices that cost billions of dollars in RnD. It world be like a high school football team thinking that they could play in the NFL. There’s a reason the market can really only support 3 at a time.

      There needs to be a clear distinction between pre-order and pre investment with option to purchase. Most people expect a pre-order to ship in under a year. Beyond that, it's a failed pre-order and money should be refunded. A pre investment is a payment you're giving the company because you agree with their vision. If you exercise the option of buying the final product (if there is one) they can deduct that payment from the total price. Sites like kickstarter and other funding platforms need to make this distinction.

      Forcing their hand to the SEC was the biggest blow here, I think far more than Tommy stepping town. The big shocker to me though was not the amount of debt they owed, but that they were taking out big loans as early as 2019. This was mismanaged basically from the start.

This company was/is run by absolute clowns, who, if not doing it to enrich themselves, have proved they should never be trusted in the industry again due to their incompetence and mismanagement.

    An eerie silence descends upon the battlefield as Pat and Ian lead their combined forces through the ruins of Fortress Tommy. Their combined pincer attack was enough to deal a fatal blow to Tommy's ambitions of expanding his territory of Amicoville throughout all of Consolevania. Ambitions in tatters as Pat and Ian decide who will deal the killing blow. So they cast open Tommy's battle tent, confident that their foe will at least have the honour to go out on his shield. But all they find is a sealed parchment with Tommy's final words to them. Tommy has abandoned it all to save his own miserable hide, defeated and deluded that his fight somehow still goes on. A hollow victory indeed. Ian crumples the parchment to the ground and wails an anguished cry. Revenge will be his!

    I see a lot of people questioning if Phil can save this project, so to be clear, that isn't his goal. He seems to specialise in winding down companies that are no longer viable with minimum liability for those involved and did the exact same thing for Interplay in the past. He's trying to turn a crash in to an emergency landing so all the IE executives get to take their money and walk without having to fear prosecution or lawsuits. 'Saving' Intellivision Entertainment or putting out a good product isn't something he has any interest in doing.

    I think the Amico might go down as the Citizen Kane of dubiously conceived consoles because even a light bit of study on it yields a level of incompetence and baffling thinking that I've never seen any other system compare to. You look up the Chameleon, VCS, or the countless console misfires in the past, and a lot of the time you can basically get the gist of what happened in a couple of paragraphs, maybe a few pages at most.
    The Amico though has so many layers, so many individual elements of poorly thought out ideas and executed so badly (and consistently!) that it almost becomes a master class in how not to run a business, let alone one in the video game industry. Throw in Tommy's bizarre antics and the weird cult of personality he developed among certain retro CZcamsrs, and it's one of the most fascinating media failures in the last two decades.

    This has been a facinating weekend. Seeing the stars start to fade from the starstruck, seeing who pulls up in the Spin Wagon, and the genuine disarray that this transfer of power has been handled with.
    Nobody on Republic or Fundable has been informed of this _fourth_ campaign, which I'm sure will _just simply instil_ them with confidence, especially since Start Engine forced them to post financials, which are even worse than most of us could have predicted.
    Even the guy who dropped 10k$ is starting to have seconds thoughts. Which is an amazing miracle.
    But then there's _slopes._ The guy who made his entire channel off the back of picking apart Kickstarter scams and having a lark over them. This is the project, the metaphorical hill he'll do his trench charge on. Oh well, his money to turn into charcoal in the stocking. (While ruining his reputation, alas.)
    Edit/Update: Well, Nintendo Sports is back. I can't help but imagine that someone has metaphorically shot the Amico at point blank.

    5th commandment stated: "EVERY game must cost less than $10.00".
    Phil already broke that commandment and said many games will cost $20.00 and a few may cost even over $20.00

    Steam says the minimum specs required for ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove are 4GB of RAM, 1GB of VRAM, and a CPU and GPU from roughly a decade ago or newer. That's minimum specs. Also, 3GB of storage space. That would probably all be compressed down for mobile, but still.

    • @ELSTERLING
      @ELSTERLING Před 2 lety +1

      And anyone who works with modern Android builds will tell you that the Amico's 2gb of ram is _barely_ enough to make a usable phone, let alone a gaming device. It's a bit like trying to run Windows 10 on 4gb of RAM. That's a large part of why even the trashy flash games were chugging and this thing never even attempted any movie/streaming integration. That and the fact they insisted every game had to be made in the notoriously poorly optimised by default Unity engine. At that point to get any kind of partway good looking game running well you would have to be a master coder _and_ hope they'd hugely optimised their OS which with IE was never going to happen.

    • @atm94404
      @atm94404 Před 2 lety +1

      Funniest part about Phil Adam admitting the OS isn't finished and needs massive optimization work to run games LIKE TJ&E, is how the shills misinterpreted what he said. They just heard "TJ&E" and then said "See! We just got confirmation that TJ&E is still being worked on! Official confirmation! Suck it, haterz!" I can't tell if they're just gaslighting or if they're really that stupid.

    I've said this before but this is what happens when someone who thinks they know how to make video games tries to make video games. Tommy has a lot of experience in the industry and has worked on a lot of titles but he's been a music composer. While important, this is a process that is pretty disconnected from the rest of development, often happening in a completely different studio. Tommy's CV of game soundtracks he's produced is impressive, credit where credit is due there, but he's never actually designed a game, never mind a game *console*, so him leading the creative vision of this thing was always going to result in a disaster.
