  • This is a clip of the Hotpoint Supermatic De Luxe 1469 Twin Tub Washing Machine I own. This is the very first time this machine has been used. It came with two old samples of Persil and Ariel washing powder. I haven't opened these but I'm guessing that they may have lost their scent.
I don't have a clip of this machine emptying. When I originally recorded the empty tub cycle I was holding the camera the wrong way up and it did't display this properly.
    Anyways... I hope you enjoy.

I found one of these in a charity shop, hardly used. I had to buy it because it reminded me of my childhood. Before I sold it on several washes were done starting with whites on a boil and the coloureds. Spin dried and on the washing line in less than an hour for 4 loads. They wash brilliantly and I would recommend to anyone without a washing machine to get one. Cheap to run and no plumbing in required.

Oh I would be so glad to have one of those in Germany. Nice washer! 😍

That lint filter on the washer is a great feature.

A truly great British icon of the 1970s, this model of machine was used in millions of homes and gives a superbly thorough wash with the Spiraclean no-tangle wash action and the superfast 3,100 rpm spin dryer

Nice machine. My mother had the earlier "Supermatic" with the glass "eyeball" spinner lid bought in 1961. She then replaced it quite some years later with a similar machine to yours although an earlier model. She always felt it didnt wash as well thinking that the "Spiraclean" was just a gimmick and didnt create the "roll over" that her old 4 vane agitator did with its slower and wider arc working in a square tub. That, as the ads of the time claimed didnt tangle clothes either

I've never seen these machines in Australia we've always had Hoovermatic's here and they were very popular. The spin dryer on this Hot point doesn't scream like the old Hoover's it's very quiet which is surprising.

Thanks for your comments. This machine is currently being stored but I think I might have to get it in to make a full movie.

And an icon of the 1960's. The design had been around since at least 1966, but without the lid release button and auto rinse.

Superb that this machine was acquired by someone who will preserve it for the future. Was astounded when it surfaced on you know where and had everything crossed that it woulfind a good home.
On the ratings plate and to the right of the serial number, the other side of a '/', will be two numbers. If you want to know to the month when your machine was made, let us know what these two numbers are (thats assuming that you dont know its age already).
Have fun and congratulations on its acquisition

    Thank you, I think...
I will do an updated version of the Chloride Gent Siren. The washers are easier to film.

p.s words of warning - the aluminium fascias look durable, but have a tendency to shed their graphics and detailing, in particular the programme guide, with soapy water splashing on to it.
Admittedly the machines sans fascia detailing that I have seen have been well worked examples, rather than box fresh ones, but its always worth wiping up stray water nonetheless.
    Again - a great machine - enjoy!
