Cary Grant presenting Academy Award to James Stewart. How historic ! Two of the greatest Actors of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
I couldn't agree more, true superstars, and legends. R I P. Two wonderful actors.
They don't make men like Grant and Stewart anymore.....and boy do I miss them!
Amen.
Let's not forget Ray Milland - a wonderful actor too!
Cary Grant was from Bristol, England like Bob Hope was born in London.🙂
@@padijeff5675 The Americans have got Johnny Cash, Bob Hope, and Stevie Wonder, we've got no cash, no hope and no bloody wonder
7byseven Bob Hope was born in South London!☺️
Jimmy Stewart was not just an actor. He was a real-life American hero. A skilled pilot, he refused special treatment as a celebrity to fly combat missions deep into occupied Europe in WWII, in B-17s and B-24s. Despite trying to keep a low profile during his service, he retired as a Major General in 1968 with a slew of medals for his heroism in combat. He even flew in a B-52 as an observer on a combat mission over Vietnam in 1966. Jimmy Stewart was a great man.
+Ken Scar the measure of a man who looks not for his own glory, but praises all those around him...God bless him, he is sorely missed... a true hero....
So true. Stewart also flew combat missions in Vietnam.
He was a racist.

You just can't hate Jimmy Stewart.
That's a stupid choice of word. The very LAST profanity on any decent persons mind surely ?
This year me 20 year old I love it's wonderful life movie and all movie James stewart, and I come from Thailand
@@MrDaiseymay Boy, daiseymay, have you got a case of the jitters!
RIP Cary Grant (January 18, 1904 - November 29, 1986), aged 82
And
RIP James Stewart (May 20, 1908 - July 2, 1997), aged 89
You both will always be remembered as legends.
"you've given me a wonderful life...." brought me to tears.
Same here. He is my life hero.
When you watch this Academy Award presentation, you realize how crappy the ones we have now are. Jimmy Stewart was truly one of a kind.
But Ricky told them
AmericanWatchdog We have many wonderful movie stars today, and there are great Oscar presentations today. Not sure which you were referring to. In the words of a Jimmy Stewart character, maybe you’re a warped, frustrated old man.
@@ranlive1 No. No one today comes close to people like Jimmy Stewart.
They’ve now been reduced exercises in politically correct pablum. America had tuned them out.
@@ArsPraestigium , you are obviously deeply ignorant of American history and the Red Scare and the Hollywood Blacklist, when production studios hewed to a politically correct dictate created by right wing power brokers and racists. Today there is far more creativity and artistic and speech freedoms than existed for more than the first 60 years of filmmaking.
Tuned out? You sound tuned out. A single U.S. film can easily take in more revenue than the combined revenue of all the films produced by any other single country in a year. Americans are perhaps the heaviest consumers of screen media entertainment in the world and probably well over 90% of the content they consume is, for better or worse, domestically produced. “Hollywood” has never been more powerful and people have never been more rapt by what it produces.
Awww Cary Grant got choked up as he read that tribute to Jimmy Stewart, how sweet. Two superstars, when we still had a few superstars!
The days when Hollywood had legends
joe s No actor now can match Grant, Stewart, Fonda ...
Relf Cepter daniel day-lewis says hi!
Thallys Bandeira
Yes, you are right! I forgot about him, shame on me! I should have made a different comment. Because yes, there are great actors nowadays which can match the greatness of the guys from the Golden Age (like you said, DDL, but also, imo, Nicholson, De Niro, Hoffman and Pacino). What I should have said is, that that there were way, way more great actors back in the day than now Because back in the day, there were like 30 great actors (and the same amount of actresses), and only a handful nowadays can match them.
Are you his bloody agent?
Gary Oldman is top notch as well. If he's not looked at as a legend today, I personally think he is, he defiantly will one day he will be.
I cried watching this. He was such a deserving man who never took anything for granted and radiated sincerity. What a genuine human being, RIP Jimmy.
I cried too. He is my life hero!
"You've given me a wonderful life." ...And he gave us It's a Wonderful Life. What a classy, incredible man.
Cary Grant had amazing genes! He was 81 here ( 4 years older than James Stewart) but still had a full head of gorgeous hair and seemed to be in good shape.
Perhaps it was the LSD he took in his earlier days. Cary was probably the first celebrity to try it out, even before Timothy Leary became the "guru" of acid.
@@ralphadamo1857 What does that have to do with good genes? :))
Yes but he died one year before he died....
@@daniellebourgade8701 that’s crazy! What did he do during that year when he was alive but already dead?
@@ralphadamo1857 , “younger days”? You’re off by a few decades and you make it sound as though his use of LSD was somehow illicit. In fact, Grant was administered LSD therapeutically when he was a middle age man undergoing psychotherapy. LSD was not illegal, and it was administered by psychiatrists as a therapeutic psychotropic to assist in the psychotherapeutic process. Many doctors and their patients found it very useful and effective.
LSD is now being seriously studied again as a potential therapeutic psychotropic. I would not be surprised to see it used again in medical settings within the next decade or two.
He's the best because he's a sweetheart and a gent
Tom Hanks favorite actor , Isaac Kappy RIP
Trump 2020 Tom Hanks doesn’t like Trump
Sweet old times when standing ovations meant REALLY something , and then reserved for only TRUE Stars , like Mr Stewart and Grant ... One word : LEGENDS .
truth
Yes those men are great through their roles on screen and amazing also off screen particularly in this case Jimmy Stewart. His military record his personal loss of a son to friendly fire in Viet Nam and many other things throughout his life. As for the audience in this clip....If you watch closely they look marginally motivated and majoritively bored and disinterested. Eking out enough applause to look good for a wide angle long distance take!
True
You have an overly nostalgic and romantic view of the past.
"...to all the directors who so generously and brilliantly guided me through the no man's land of my own good intentions..."
That's pure golden poetry there as was this man. Miss him immensely.
Dracopticon people
Two of the Biggest ever actors!
James Stewart, Cary Grant, Gary Cooper John Wayne there are no more actors like these!
Carlos you have to include Charles Laughton Gregory Peck Spencer Tracy fredric March Clark Gable among others in that list. No one comes close nowadays to these great actors
You are absolutely right. That's why my wife and I no longer go to the movie theaters. We watch Turner Classic Movies on TV instead of the new crap that Hollywood is putting out today.
@@193322009 , if you don’t go to films then you really have no way to judge.
They were all men &Women, of their time. We demand different inducements today, it's our own fault.
Pity you had to mention that bum Wayne draft dodger.
Almost teared up at the ending, "You've given me a wonderful life"
ONE OF THE GREATEST MEN THAT EVER LIVED
+robert szvetics And a hell of a a great pilot.
And a diehard Republican who LOVED AMERICA
Mr Stewart would be appalled by the current Republican in the White House.
No he would be appalled at Obama and Hillary. Then the is Billy and the Blue dress
You just had to bring politics into it didn't you! Shameful on your part.
Cary at 81 and still one of the most Beautiful Classiest and awesome men who ever lived.
My heart always skips a beat when I see or hear Jimmy Stewart. He made looking at movies "classic". I loved this man and how he poured his soul into his characters. Watching Its a wonderful life has become a tradition. I hope I can meet him in heaven.
Yvette JZzst
Yvette Jones, you said it well, just as I feel.
I share your hope. Mr. Stewart was a wonderful and remarkable man.
allah bless him nice place in heavn aameen
I am shocked to hear Cary Grants voice sounded perfect fine aged 81 than it did when he was in his early 50's!!!! He doesn't sound like an old man's voice, just sounds middle age normal...
He had some of that Italian youthfulness that Ralph Machio has got now.
"You've all given Me A Wonderful Life" i really like that Wow! James Stewart had a wonderful heart. Long live the Golden Era of real Gentlemen & talented Actors.
OLD MOVIES ARE REAL MOVIES TODAY MOVIES ONLY VIOLENTS
Both wonderful actors. It's 2017 and I STILL watch their movies.
What do you think about 2019? And what a pleasure that I had living 3 months while Jimmy Stewart was alive.
me too man...In 2019, I saw again It's A Wonderful Life(James Stewart), Charade(Cary Grant), People Will Talk(Cary Grant), Rear Window(James Stewart) and some other films with these 2 legends...
I think Jimmy was not only a legendary actor, but a humble human being as well

Wow Cary Grant was incredibly handsome at every age he reached. What a wonderful legend he was.
This man is a legend... And still he looks humble and simple as nobody in hollywood today.
He is a example that should be followed! Honored be Jimmi Stewart.
Is that a Greek name?
Cary even as he aged, was SO HANDSOME! I LOVED HIM!
The fact that he thanks many people who carry out thankless jobs on movie sets heightens his greatness! What a brilliant, humble man! I wish I were alive back then, to experience the stardom of this wonderful actor! #GreatnessPrevails
Those two men were, in my opinion, the two greatest actors ever. No one will ever eclipse them.
C K DEXTER HAVEN! Jimmy's voice hasn't changed over his last years as well. Much wow.
One year before Cary Grant died..and he did not look sick at all.
+spcb77 Carotid artery disease is what killed Grant. Unfortunately the disease most often produces no outward symptoms until it's too late (stroke). Cary had a massive stroke right before a stage performance and died later that night. At least he lived a full active life right up until the day he died.
Two acting legend Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart I miss this part of the oscars they don't do this anymore they give them their awards on a seperate night I miss this Jimmy that night thanked the Audience in his speech one of the few people to ever do that RIP Jimmy Stewart RIP Cary Grant
two great actors, Cary Grant got a similar honorary oscar fifteen years earlier; Grant should have received more than his two best actor nominations, for so many of his fine performances most definitely "Bringing Up Baby" and "Father Goose" -a very underrated subtle understated performance opposite the great Leslie Caron
I agree Cary Grant should have won one he was a wonderful actor
also Cary Grant gave an oscar worthy performance in "Philadelphia Story" I wonder if Paddy Chafevsky had hired Cary Grant for Network if Grant would have gotten his well deserved competitive oscar, I suppose Cary Grant could have played either the Peter Finch (who won the oscar) role or the WIlliam Holden (who was oscar nominated) role
Jimmy's Oscar was likely given as a reaction to his loss for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington the year before. His work in Philadelphia Story was very good, but Mr Smith was the more important role.
Cary Grant looked and sounded wonderful until the end of his life. He had a devoted wife, with whom he was finally happily married, a beautiful and appreciative daughter, Jennifer, and legions of dedicated fans who continue to watch and enjoy his memorable films. The same observations apply to Jimmy Stewart, whose "Vertigo" directed by Hitchcock, just placed first on the Sight And Sound list of best movies above Welles" "Citizen Kane".
Two amazing legends, their legacy will live forever.
such a wonderful actor, humble man.... we don't see men like him in movies these days and we are the poorer for it... thank you, Jimmy, for the "Wonderful Life" you gave us....miss you sooo
One of the most powerful scenes in the history of film; and one of many testaments to the talent of Jimmy Stewart, is the scene in "Vertigo", when Stewart watches Kim Novak come out of the bathroom dressed as Madeline, his lost love. The man says nothing verbally, but he speaks VOLUMES with his face & eyes. Apart from his iconic status in our history, Stewart was a brilliant actor.
Jimmy Stewart. Great actor. Great person. Great American.
My two favorites on the same stage. Icons and legends!
What a talented actor, a true gentleman of the industry and a great patriot. God bless Jimmy Stewart.
Two silver- haired foxes- eat your hearts out, young men. This is how One ages gracefully!
"You've given me a wonderful life." I get so emotional every time I watch this.
There are no words for how much of a man James Stewart is. Honorable, dignified, you can use any word you want but there is no one single word. Just one phrase: One of a kind.
I hope youre happy wherever you are, Mr. Stewart. The world misses you.
Class, dignity, and oh so awesome talent and great, hard work. Jimmy and Cary set those standards. But today's generation of actors seems to have forgotten them.
Two class acts...Humble, kind, unasuming - we need some of those today!
Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart.....absolute class!

Two of the greatest movie actors ever! Wow!
Just finished watching "The Philadelphia Story" for which Mr. Stewart won an Oscar. Gosh, he was "yar.'
Two great guys with huge glasses!! :)
I was blessed to have corresponded with Jimmy Stewart 3 different times.
That man on TV?
THAT was Jimmy Stewart.
He was my idol as a kid...and at 57, he’s still my idol.
I miss you Jim...
art balderdash You’re lucky..
What a beautiful human being, very much missed simply for being himself
This is simply wonderful! Two legends. Sigh...
great actors, great human beings, we miss you Cary and Jimmy
"You have given me a wonderful life, and God bless you." Got to be one of the best Oscar speech clinchers ever. That is just so like him, as he was a kind, sweet man and a true gentleman. RIP James Stewart, we love you.
Absolutely beautiful speech by the wonderful James Stewart. Classy beyond belief. Presented by the charming Cary Grant. ❤️❤️
Damn, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart, two legends.
I love him!!!!!! He was one man of a kind and pure talent!!!!
:-):-):-):-)
What an amazing man and actor.. It saddens me to see him this old, it kinda makes me wonder and think about life. I know very well it will happen to most of us, but still to think of his amazing energy and performances in Philadelphia Story, It's a Wonderful Life, Rear Window, The man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Anatomy of a Murder, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, etc.. I can't help
feeling sad :( RIP amazing man and actor Jimmy Stewart.
When actors and actresses had class and mutual respect for one another. James Stewart had such dignity, but was a most humble man. As was Cary Grant and most of Hollywood, for that matter, back in the day.
2 LEGENDS. A PHILADELPHIA STORY
Both gentlemen were outstanding actors......
Miss them......
Wow what a legend. I always get chills watching this he was such a kind, talented, amazing actor. One of the best. The part when he says "You've given me a wonderful life" omg I nearly want to cry he is so nice and humble. It's A Wonderful Life is my all time favourite of Jimmy's movies and also one of my favourites period. And btw there are some teenagers and young people out there like me who know who James Stewart, Cary Grant and other legendary actors are :D God rest their souls. xxx
"Yeah!" - Drunk Frank Capra superfan.
Jimmy never failed to give Capra his due for creating two of Stewart's most beloved and remembered characters.
BTW, the Oscar he won for "Philadelphia Story" was only given to make up for his being cheated out of the Oscar for "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" the year before.
He is one of my Favorite actor 😍
Even experienced through a CZcams video more than three-and-a-half decades later, it’s almost unbearably euphoric at just how much ‘class’ that stage exuded on that evening in 1985...
Very few men of their stature exist in Hollywood today, if any. RIP Gentlemen.
The two great Hitchcock leading men. My two favourite actors!
Shame on the 118 Soul-less individuals who chose to give this a thumbs down...I LOVE YOU JIMMY STEWART, you have given me and so many others A WONDERFUL LIFE and your talents & Gentleman kindness will live on for generations to come! LOVE ETERNAL
What an actor Jimmy Stewart was....absolutely brilliant
Two icons of the silver screen. They didn’t need special effects or language to make a movie watcheable. Beautiful actors.
Ummm. They definitely needed language. These were not silent film actors despite what their ages suggested.
@@inkyguy I'm talking foul language not sound. I'm fully aware they weren't silent movie actors.
What a treat to see these two screen legends on the same stage... and after so many years. We will never see their like again.
He is in my top 4 greatest male actors of all time! Genius!;)
The '' Rear Window '' Was Such A Classic Movie. Totally James Stewart.
Philadelphia Story is one of the best classic films ever. The scene that Grant refers to is my favorite scene. You can see Cary trying hard not to crack up because Jimmy Stewart is so hilarious.
Two of the all time greats.
Beautiful crowd response
The truest form of the word "Gentleman"
James Stewart is one of my favourites, he could play anything as always seemed to be decent man.
Two legendary actors and icons, they were great together in The Philadelphia Story.
Yes they were fine but honestly Katharine Hepburn and Ruth Hussey carried the movie along with John Halliday and Roland Young. I would have liked to see Grant and Stewart switch parts.
Always graceful, always genuinely humble. Always a gentleman.
two legends!
Two of the all time great American actors right here. They've each given more great performances than I have fingers on my hands. Pure class, the both of them.
Such a gracious man James Stewart was (Cary Grant was also). In the present day (2022), if he and Cary Grant would have greeted each other near the beginning of this clip, I'm sure they would have hugged rather than given a handshake.
Two legends and classy gentlemen
A reminder of a time when stars had personality! You could do an impression of either Cary of Jimmy and people would know who you were doing.
Because of this it has been frequently argued that they were stars more than actors, defining a star as someone who basically plays various versions of themselves in their movies. Stewart and Grant would be perhaps two perfect examples.
He totally did a pun there with "you've totally given me a wonderful life." :'(
Love you Jimmy Stewart. I've been seeing all of his films recently.
Now the list includes Rear Window, Vertigo, Man Who Knew Too Much, Shop Around the Corner, Shopworn Angel and Mr Smith Goes To Washington.
OMG 2 of the best actors of all time on the stage together, Jimmy Stewart did not make one bad movie he was brilliant as was the very handsome Cary Grant.
2 of my all-time favorites. They don't make them like that anymore.
Cant dream of making like them.
Jimmy Stewart was a deceptively good actor. I invite you to watch his award winning performance in Anatomy Of A Murder, in which he acquits himself beautifully against George C. Scott, in the prime of his career, and Ben Gazzara. His work in Capra's It's A Wonderful Life is masterful.
And the nice thing about Stewart is that unlike George C. Scott he didn’t have the tendency to assault and abuse the people he worked (and lived) with. For a large part of his career, George C. Scott was notorious for his violent temper, including assaulting his wife. I think Scott was an amazingly gifted actor, but those are the facts.
Men of good character and noble service in this world are invaluable to humanity. Jim personified this in his time in film and military service in WW2. You see how Cary got choked up presenting the award to a man whose real life character touched many people's hearts and minds in a positive way.
What a great honorable man and a great actor.
I just love these two fellows!
Recently watched Cary in "Bringing Up Baby" and Jimmy in "It's a Wonderful Life".
They were both so wonderful.
I love it when one legend is honoured by another legend. I initially discovered these two as an Alfred Hitchcock fan since both men had each appeared in a quartet of his films. This encouraged me to seek out their other films which has been a rich and rewarding experience.
A great man who had such warmth that shot out of the screen and into the viewers hearts.
Grant and Stewart, Pacino and De Niro are the most iconic stars
are there any Jimmy STewarts and Cary Grants in movies any more? God what class!
It's not only cool to see the duo from "Philadelphia Story" reunited, but also cool to see Alfred Hitchcock's two best, and most recurrent, leading men on the same stage at the same time.
Outstanding actor!
Miss you sir.
Mr.James Stewart. A True America Hero!
I'm a young man but I no theses are the two greatest actors in the movie world
Que geniales actores, cuanto he disfrutado de cada una de sus películas !!!
